  • Documentation Interest Group (Melissa)

May 28th meeting.

  • Dev Ops Interest Group

Meeting postponed. No updates.

  • Metadata Interest Group

Call for meeting July / August.

  • General discussion

No topics.

Islandora Camp updates

Smallish attendance, but self sustaining. Big dev track. Small admin track. Will use a hosted VM instead of usb sticks. VM too slow.

Call for proposals flood! Publish schedule next week -- for presentations and workshops.

  • iCampCT

Planning underway.

CLAs

No concerns.

  • Concerns remain over the language of our CLA regarding patents. Please see suggestions here.

GPL2 vs 3 (latter is fine for Drupal, 3 is issue for some institutions). Concerns about patent portfolio in CLA. So could bring CLA more in line with GPL. Complicated. Needs to be evaluated.

New Business

Discussion: Create a contributing section/appendix on the confluence wiki (nruest)

Aim to avoid confusion about how to contribute. Make more consistent and put information in one place (clear for devs vs. users). Nick will do work and labor (draft for approval):

http://islandora-labs.github.io/islandora/contributing/contributing/

Discussion: Moving non-release modules out of Islandora GitHub organization over to Islandora-Labs (nruest)

Things in main islandora repository should be just for release. If it's not for release it should be in labs. This will clean things up.

Question: is process to get things in labs the same as for main? Nick: No. It's a collaborative space. When / if ready for promotion goes through regular contribution process. Otherwise labs is just a place to share and collaborate. Low bar for entry - get community participation.

Here is a list.

Melissa: good to move old stuff out of main repository. Labs good home for the obscure =)

Nick: moving things is simple.

Question: what about deprecated modules? Nick: possibly another org "islandora-deprecated"? David: good idea to keep deprecated separate. This is stuff that no one will work on again vs. labs, stuff that is being worked on. David says Fedora "team" encourage projects be added to labs for community interest.

Nick is starting list of things to move, for next meeting to review.

Discussion: Islandora ontology

https://github.com/islandora-labs/islandora_ontology

Should this be published? Nick happy to lead charge. Decisions to make over versioning. Predicates will migrate to Fedora4.

David thinks it's a good idea to publish. Recommends moving to Fedora4 terms where possible.

Question: RELS-EXT not reflected in Fedora ontology? Nick: these are predicates from the Islandora code base:

https://github.com/Islandora-Labs/islandora/blob/7.x-2.x/docs/technical-documentation/islandora-namespace-predicates.md

https://github.com/Islandora-Labs/islandora/blob/7.x-2.x/docs/technical-documentation/fedora-namespace-predicates.md

RELS-EXT and RELS-INT comes over as properties for object via migration-utils. For F3 to F4 migration:

https://github.com/fcrepo4-labs/migration-utils/pull/13/files

Can be tested now! (ask Nick).

Islandora ontology is partly for documentation, partly for implementation where existing ontologies (Fedora 4, elsewhere) don't have "coverage" for the predicate.

Nigel also recommends publishing. Good reference for people. Nick: If published html files will need to be added to islandora.ca (ontology folder).
