Welcome to Arran Griffith! Stepping in temporarily to help with Melissa's absence. She will be helping by monitoring the inbox and taking care of the social media. She will be working part time. We did a round of introductions.
-
Metadata Interest Group (Danny):
- Holding a sprint March 8-19th. Goal: to audit default profile to compare it to the metadata interest group profile
- work will be through the UI, so you don't have to have a dev setup to participate
-
IR Interest Group (Don):
- Don is currently hosting meeting, while Bryan is busy on a project
- Interest in having an example IR object hosted in the sandbox, still working on the details of this
-
ISLE Interest Group (Danny):
- Haven't met since last meeting. Danny's done a lot of work with ISLE recently and it's starting to get tested
- Should hopefully get merged in soon
- Will work to get Fedora 6 Beta integrated
-
Multi-tenancy Interest Group:
- probably haven't met
-
Documentation Interest Group (Mirko):
- Met last Wednesday
- looking at how to make configuration changes needed so folks can feed back configuration things they create to the community. This is so that they have a place to put these changes, so other's can use these changes as well.
- the interest group talked about insider features for the documentation
- It would be good to have a way to get contributions from non-developers - make that an easier process.
-
Islandora 8 updates (Danny):
- The Islandora Foundation uses Digital Ocean - has Digital Ocean Control (DOCTL) - Because of his work, Danny can now spin up sandboxes with a one line command.
- There is a Github action that uses this to install things.
- It can easily build sandboxes now based on tagged versions of code.
- This is the begining of continuous delivery we've been working towards.
- Danny will work more to automate this as time goes on.
- Encouraging folks to try out features. It would be good to have some non-developers to look at some new features.
- There is a triple store indexer module that brings everything to the UI - for example, you can see the message queue and where things succeeded or failed. https://www.drupal.org/project/triplestore_indexer
- There is an advanced search module Lyrasis developed. It brings the same experience from 7 into Islandora 8. It's more Drupal based than Islandora based. https://github.com/Islandora/islandora/pull/824
- Release coming up soon; talking to TAG today about this. Danny has created a document and we will try to make it a more meaningful process we can follow. Feedback welcome. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ueFohEjuXzpOvKW2u5WZnrZzGZtnHT_FKljZ1iUg3XQ/edit

- Islandora Open Meeting
- numbers in attendance: more than previous times
- Seth Shaw presented on his experience - they have a large number of objects in their Islandora now. Seth shared his review of access control modules and his experiences with them.
- Some folks from FLVC were there - which was great.
- Gabriela Mircea - no update, work mostly focused on Dspace
- David Wilcox - Fedora 6 Beta release out (not formally announced yet, but artifacts are currently available). Feature complete, with some number of extra things they want to do. Hopeful of a production release in the next quarter. A few user group meetings are coming up.
- Drew - working with Nigel Banks who is helping move I7 to I8 on AWS. Appreciating how things in Islandora 8 are modular and configurable and the way the community has been mindful of the different environment adopters might deploy in.
- Amy - The ICG is looking at if the group might want to have a shared islandora sandbox as people look to try out the env. as institutions think about migrating to I8.
- Bethany - the group at JHU are working on setting up I8 to move some material from DSpace into it. Bethany is looking at permissions for limiting access to Collections and Repository Items. Appreciates the presentation and conversation from last Open Meeting. We are also working on what the various environments will look like.
- Arran - new here. does have access to social media for Islandora and community inbox, and also on slack. Getting feet wet with Islandora.
- Don - working towards developing an install profile. figure out away to share with the community or at least with Danny for a jump-start to that work. Also working to adapt their version of ISLE into Kubernetes. Don has helped to dockerize Islandora Workbench with Mark Jordan, so you can spin it up in docker. This way you don't have to manage python versions to get it running. Working on last details.
