Refs: #57640

It turns out #57640 was incomplete and I missed including this option mask flag. Thank you to @augjoh for pointing this out.

Interesting - I didn't think this would have a test failure but it looks it's causing something in DNS tests to fail. Will investigate shortly

@Ethan-Arrowood To me it looks like everything is working fine, the expected test result (seven queries) is odd though. If caching is disabled I would expect 8 queries. The test should be fixed here.

Perhaps @lpinca can shed some light on this issue, why seven queries are expected in the last test of test/parallel/test-dns.js. It was introduced in 3569493

@Ethan-Arrowood

I wonder if the flakiness is related to the change in c-ares too. I'll wait for @lpinca 's response, and then I will commit the necessary test change here 👍

I don't remember exactly but probably because one was cached and did not reach the server. It was probably the last one ('resolveSoa') which was already provided with the first ('resolveAny').

Edit: It is the last query (dns.resolveSoa()) that hits the server only for the promise based variant. There is only one hit on the server for type 'SOA'.

Interesting, I'm not a DNS expert, but this test case seems to just be testing that the two methods dnsPromises[method] and dns[method] (with a callback) do the same thing. Why would we expect one to hit and not the other? IMO the appropriate fix is to remove the - 1 and expect all four cases to hit twice.

WDYT?

I think it makes sense.

FWIW the commit-queue failures were because the tooling requires "Fixes:" to be an issue and errors if it's a pull request. I edited the description to change it to "Refs:" which allowed the automation to land.

@RafaelGSS. @richardlau: The original incomplete fix (b2b9eb36af8cc356dc96159e7565ef4d2f70777f) has been merged into v20. As the tracking issue has been closed already, this might slip through. Is this going to be back ported to v20?

@richardlau

Yes, but the usual policy is to land first in a current release (i.e. Node.js 24) before it is eligible for landing on the LTS lines. This has the relevant lts-watch- labels, so should be picked up for subsequent Node.js 20.x releases after it has gone out in a 24.x release.

### [`v24.2.0`](https://github.com/nodejs/node/releases/tag/v24.2.0): 2025-06-09, Version 24.2.0 (Current), @aduh95

[Compare Source](nodejs/node@v24.0.2...v24.2.0)

##### Notable Changes

##### Remove support for HTTP/2 priority signaling

The support for priority signaling has been removed in nghttp2, following its
deprecation in the [RFC 9113](https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc9113#section-5.3.1).
As a consequence of this, priority signaling is deprecated on all release lines of Node.js,
and removed from Node.js 24 so we can include latest updates from nghttp2.

Contributed by Matteo Collina and Antoine du Hamel in
[#58293](nodejs/node#58293).

##### `import.meta.main` is now available

Boolean value available in ECMAScript modules, which can be used to detect
whether the current module was the entry point of the current process.

```mjs
export function foo() {
 return 'Hello, world';
}
function main() {
 const message = foo();
 console.log(message);
}
if (import.meta.main) main();
// `foo` can be imported from another module without possible side-effects from `main`
```
