Should we bump the major version of e.g., ISLE-DC to reflect Matomo being removed?

Since most people have their own Makefiles it doesn't seem like a big deal.

From Amy:

In ICC there is interest in a meeting to talk about usage statistics.

Not a lot of clients seem to use it as they tend to have their own Google Analytics accounts.

It can be important for institutions to demonstrate how they are providing value and which content is of interest to users.

BePress has a feature that is very popular that includes a map to graph how content is accessed.

User journeys are also very compelling.

Matomo gives you much more granular visit information than Google Analytics does.

Matomo also differentiates e.g. if a user jsut went to an object's page or if they access the file itself out of Flysystem.

Overall visitor count between Google Analytics and Matomo are close overall.

Google Tag Manager seemed to work much better when it is set up correctly.

From Josh:

There was an issue where Islandora's context evaluation was preventing saving the configuration for Google Tag Manager.

Don:

Matomo is more able to pick up on AJAX actions counting as hits, e.g., when a user moves through pages in a book.

Google reports "impression" when a page shows up in Google search results pages, even if it doesn't result in a hit. Concensus is this is vaguely interesting but can't do much with that info.

Volunteering to add instructions for how to use the official Matomo image with Islandora.
