Pi is the first provider in its own package, @t3tools/provider-pi, following the convention the other drivers will use:

  • ./settings (src/settings.ts): the instance settings schema, moved out of contracts.
  • ./client (src/client.ts): label, settings form, and a plain-data icon (no React). Web and mobile render the icon from the package instead of hand-drawn Pi branches.
  • ./server (src/server.ts): the driver and adapter driver the server registers; the implementation lives under src/server/.

Pi's server code imports only provider-core, contracts, and shared, and reaches the server through ProviderHost. The managed status provider, its snapshot-settings source, the context handoff budget, and provider continuation requests move into provider-core so the package can use them. The adding-a-provider checklist now describes the package layout.

Not checked in a running client: the Pi icon should look identical in light and dark mode on web and mobile.

Approvability

Verdict: Not approved

Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This is more than a local rename: it moves Pi into a new server/client package and restructures shared provider runtime infrastructure used by all providers. Pi’s behavior and disabled-by-default settings appear preserved, but the package-boundary and shared-service changes have a broad enough runtime footprint to merit human review.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change adds a dedicated Pi provider package with settings, client metadata, and server exports. Shared provider APIs are exported through provider-core. Server consumers and web and mobile clients use the package APIs.

Changes

Pi Provider Package Integration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Pi package and shared APIs
packages/provider-pi/*, packages/provider-core/*, packages/contracts/src/settings.ts, docs/internals/*, package.json, scripts/release-smoke.ts
The new Pi package defines settings, client icon metadata, and server exports. Provider-core exports shared server modules and adds the provider icon shape. Contracts exports settings helpers and removes the Pi-specific settings schema. Package tests, configuration, and provider documentation are updated.
Server package adoption
apps/server/package.json, apps/server/scripts/*, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/*, apps/server/src/provider/*
Server code and tests import continuation requests, handoff-budget helpers, managed-provider utilities, and snapshot settings from provider-core. Pi driver and adapter consumers import from provider-pi.
Web and mobile package icons
apps/web/package.json, apps/web/src/components/*, apps/web/src/components/chat/*, apps/web/src/components/settings/providerDriverMeta.ts, apps/mobile/package.json, apps/mobile/src/components/ProviderIcon.tsx, apps/mobile/src/lib/providerClients.ts
Web and mobile register the Pi client and render package-provided icons. Web provider label colors use icon theme colors when available, with configured classes as fallback.

Change: Refactor

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 30bf2

This refactor moves Pi into its own package without a visible behavior change. No merge-blocking risk is identified. The new Pi icon has not been checked in a running client, which is normal verification still to do.

Use namespace imports for service modules. These changed imports use named service values. Convert each import and qualify its uses.

  • packages/provider-core/src/server/managedProvider.ts#L18-L18: import the ProviderHost module as a namespace.
  • packages/provider-core/src/server/managedProvider.test.ts#L19-L19: import the ProviderHost service as a namespace; retain a separate type import if needed.
  • apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Orchestrator.ts#L112-L112: import the continuation-requests module as a namespace.

As per coding guidelines, “Consumers use a service module the same way: import * as Foo from "./Foo.ts", then yield* Foo.Foo and Foo.layer.” The matching path instructions require the same convention.

follow them there, and the Muse files import from the new paths.

Upstream: provider-core / provider-testing / provider-pi packages (pingdotgg#17299,
pingdotgg#17302), legacy per-driver `providers` settings map dropped (pingdotgg#17300),
JetBrains remote editors, terminal scrollback navigation, RFC 9110
User-Agent, relay client self-update, CLI-update model notices.
Fork kept: Claude/Codex in-app account login (driver keeps the full
settings service), probe-timeout carry-forward in managedProvider,
rankPullRequests now part of ProviderTextGeneration, thread-title policy,
app display name (moved to provider-core/server/appDisplayName), macOS
editor app-bundle discovery alongside JetBrains product codes, terminal
find docs, voice session in the composer, bare product name as the
Electron app name. Tests ported off the legacy `providers` map.

rework (pingdotgg#16956, pingdotgg#16961, pingdotgg#16963, pingdotgg#17316), provider-core and the Muse and Pi
provider packages (pingdotgg#17299, pingdotgg#17331, pingdotgg#17302), agent self-settle (pingdotgg#17145) and
find in thread (pingdotgg#10439). Eleven conflicts, all additive; no fork feature is
covered upstream, so none was removed. Re-homed: the drawing lease also wraps
pingdotgg#16956's observe reads; the latest-turn fold yields to an active find match;
the mobile Idle label takes upstream's StatusLabel shape; imports follow the
provider-core move. A Manager test pins that agent chords are never forwarded
as app shortcuts, which pingdotgg#16961's new sidebar and panel toggles made matter.
