Day 1

9:00 Introductions and logistics

9:45 Opening talks (coffee break around 10:30)

  • Karen: general intro to OpenTree project, web services, resources, terminology
  • Luke: Arbor
  • Arlin: HIP and Phylotastic

11:00 Questions and discussion, prior to making pitches

  • moderator: intro and instructions (scope, pitches, projects, teams, bootcamps)
  • Discussion. Use this time to ask questions about what resources are available, what can be done with them, how important are various use-cases, and so on.

12:00-1:30 lunch

1:30 Pitches and team formation

  • moderator: brief instructions throughout
  • Pitches and feedback. Anyone may make a "pitch" for a team project. We'll ask questions, offer comments, evaluate pros and cons together.
  • Team-formatiom. You will take part in a kind of OpenSpace process. We’ll all be together in one room. We’ll post pitches on the walls, and we’ll wander around evaluating and critiquing pitches, and trying to decide where to best apply our talents and interests. Some champions will abandon their pitches for a better opportunity. Some pitches will get fused. Most pitches will get revised. Eventually we will coalesce into a set of 5 to 7 teams with clearly defined goals that can be completed in a week.

4:00 Reports and planning

  • teams report project goals, respond to questions
  • moderator assesses interest in bootcamps
