Roles and responsibilities

These are some tips about how to participate effectively

Participants

• keep your receipts for purposes of reimbursement
• engage fully in the discussion and team-formation process on day 1
• thereafter, either be working or learning (making the most of this!) with your team
• be prepared to provide leadership when needed
• follow the rOpenSci code of conduct (http://ropensci.org/docs/anti-harassment.html)

Champions

• present your idea and respond to questions
• notice people and welcome their interest (i.e., don’t get into a long technical discussion with one person while others are waiting to ask questions or show interest)
• be open to shifting the focus to take advantage of potential team members
• abandon your pitch if you would rather do something else

Teams

• keep a succinct project log (a few sentences per day)
• support your remote participants by (1) maintaining a constant connection, (2) listening for, and responding to, remote questions, and (3) providing commentary on live events as they unfold
