Need to know where you are staying? How do get reimbursed for meals? How to get to and from the airport? You are at the right place!

Where and when

Dates: 09:00 Monday, September 15 - 15:00 Friday, September 19, 2014

Location: Palmer Commons at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

Here is a Google Map of the hotel and event locations.

Hotels

We have booked hotel rooms for all onsite participants at the following hotels. All are walking distance from Palmer Commons. Please check the Hotel List to see where you are staying. If you desperately want to switch locations, please check with @kcranston.

Belltower Hotel

Campus Inn

Ann Arbor Bed and Breakfast

For those who can't get flights out on Friday night, we have a limited number of reservations at the Comfort Inn. If you need one of these rooms, let @kcranston know as soon as possible.

Meals

All meals are on your own. Reimbursements will be handled through NESCent. For US-based participants, NESCent will reimburse using a standard per-diem rate - no receipts required. For non-US participants (and for the few of us that are Duke University employees), you must save original receipts and these receipts cannot contain any alcohol. And no, you can't just draw a line through the alcoholic items on the receipt. Those get thrown in the trash.

Cody suggests the following local restaurants:

  • Isalita (trendy Mexican)
  • the Jolly Pumpkin (upscale American pub food and good beer, also often very friendly atmosphere at the bar)
  • Aventura (tapas)
  • Jerusalem Garden (middle eastern, large portions, very affordable and very good)
  • Kosmo (Korean meets American diner)
  • Ashley's (food is just ok but the beer selection is awesome and the bar itself is a local icon)
  • Mark's Carts (a variety of fun food carts including Indian, Mexican, pizza, Asian, etc.)

Yelp is also a good source for information about eating and drinking.

Getting to and from the airport

The Michigan Flyer is the best way to get from the airport to Ann Arbor, but you will need to make a reservation in advance. The shuttle makes two stops in Ann Arbor on the way back from the airport. The first is Kensington Court, the second is Blake Transit Center. Hackathon participants should get off at Blake transit center, which is in downtown Ann Arbor, a short (~0.5 mile / 1 km) walk to the hotels. Once we all assemble in Ann Arbor, we will coordinate shuttles back to the airport on Friday.

For participants leaving on Friday, they'll catch the shuttle back from Blake Transit Center as well. For folks who are staying Friday night, the hotel we booked just for that night is close to the Kensington Court, so they will catch the shuttle from there on Saturday.
