As of 41997f7 users cannot edit the template for pages that are set as the homepage or the blog post page by making the field read only. 
FWIW, in trunk, there's the same logic, but it has a bug, and so it does not prevent editing. If it were to be fixed, this would be the experience (I'm not sure if it was different at some point in the past): Screen.Recording.2026-02-16.at.12.20.31.mov |

This logic follows trunk. There's an issue in how this templateId is fetched that impacts the page set as "Posts page". The issue is that the template matched should be "Blog Home" but it is "Pages":
This does not happen in the editor inspector (it displays "Blog home") or wp-admin (it displays "Default template").

This is the logic for the editor inspector. Note how the editor inspector computes the templateId from the editor store via the getCurrentTemplateId selector (which we cannot use in this package).

I think we'd need some extra checks like getTemplateId does for posts page and homepage.

Do we really need to show this label in edit context? If we didn't:
- It's clearer to users that a fallback is used (which might change by the theme or added templates). Example is having only
indexand then addingpagetemplate. - it might simplify the code (no utils needed as it would be needed only for the view file)
- matches the wp-admin, which I think is for reason 1.

I've left this as it was in trunk, which also mimics the editor inspector (it's a goal that both share the code and work the same). It's something we can iterate on independently, if people prefer to use a different name.
I've mentioned it in the OP:
- Template names: this PR uses the name of the resolved template, like the editor inspector.
- What template name should we display for pages that use the default? It's blank in current DataViews, "Default template" in wp-admin, and the name of the resolved template in the editor inspector (e.g., "Pages").
- What template name should display for the homepage page? It's blank in current DataViews, "Default template" in wp-admin, and "Posts page" in the editor inspector.
I realize using an empty string or "default template" hides this bug #75565 (comment) I'd prefer fixing it proper, but that's something we can fall back to if it proves too convoluted to be fixed in beta.

Noting that my comment was only for edit and not the view/render. For the render part we should show the resolved template. I guess it's fine though as is for now and we can iterate if needed.

I lean towards displaying the same label everywhere (whatever that label is). But, yeah, can be iterated.

@jameskoster I've done that at Use the expanded media variant for the featured image As for the icon and title: is this the expected design? 
In QuickEdit, we're reusing the PostCardPanel from the editor inspector — it handles a few things (title computation, display title for one vs. multiple items, adding a badge for homepage and Post page, description in multi-edit). I'll need to either replicate all of that here or add configuration to the PostcardPanel to tweak how it works. I'll iterate on this separately. |

I'd like to get confirmation from design folks before merging this, as it makes QuickEdit stable. @ntsekouras Thanks for pushing the fix. I haven't tested it, but there are some opportunities for consolidation in that function. Happy to do it myself later, but you're welcome to push yours as well. |

@oandregal I pushed a small tweak to adjust how row-clicks are handled. This addresses two minor issues:
It's also a bit more aligned with the idea of treating row-clicks as a mouse-user only feature. If the implementation is bad for any reason please feel free to revert, it was heavily AI assisted :) |

Remove the ::after pseudo-element on the edit button that covered the entire row, preventing text selection. Instead, use the accessible card pattern: the wrapper div handles click events directly while the Button remains the keyboard/screen reader target. A selection guard ensures text can still be highlighted without triggering the edit action. Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>

Follow-up to #75290
What?
Makes the QuickEdit for stable, and updates the template field's edit and renders it using the panel layout.
Why?
The template field was rendered as a regular field with a custom button, but that interaction and the visuals are at odds with the new trigger mechanism for the panel introduced at #75290. That's the primary aspect this PR is trying to solve.
Additionally, as a bonus, by introducing a render component, this PR displays the template name in the DataViews layout.
How?
Testing Instructions
Visit the Site Editor's Pages screen, and interact with the template field. Verify that it's always displaying the proper value of the template (e.g., go to the pages editor and compare with the value there).
Questions
1. Template names: this PR uses the name of the resolved template, like the editor inspector.
2. When users should not be able to edit the template: this PR maintains the current behavior on trunk.
There was some logic in the existing template field to making the template not editable if the page was the "Posts page" or the "Homepage" — this PR respects that. However, I've noticed that the editor inspector allows users to change the template for all but for pages set to "Posts page". wp-admin allows editing the template for any.
3. Bug in computing template for page set as "Posts page" (suggest to address in follow-up, it happens in trunk).
See details. The TLDR is that the template should say "Posts page" but it says "Pages. This is an existing bug in trunk, so I was thinking it can be solved in a follow-up. We have time to address bugs after the beta period but can't make QuickEdit stable at that point.
