Pull request overview
Adds richer block-visibility indicators in the List View so users can see which viewport(s) a block is hidden on, with a hover tooltip describing the hidden state.
Changes:
- Add tooltip text describing hidden viewport(s) (or “all viewports”) for hidden blocks in List View.
- Render viewport icon(s) (desktop/tablet/mobile) alongside the existing “hidden” icon when hidden on specific viewports.

Oh, interesting idea!
This is a weakly held opinion, but it feels a little odd to me that the status in the list view is dependent on the current preview / viewport in the editor itself. Could this be simplified to just:
- The tooltip displays which viewports the block is hidden in? Otherwise there's currently no tooltip displayed if the block is hidden on mobile but I'm in desktop:
Also, again personal preference, but is the viewport icon necessary in the list view? It seems to take up a fair bit of room, and personally I wouldn't know what the icon sitting next to the visibility icon means. I think the tooltip itself would be enough.
To put all this differently: what if we simplified this change to just adding a tooltip, and for the contents of the tooltip to only be derived from attributes?.metadata?.blockVisibility?
Apologies if I'm missing nuance / context for the extra logic!

Thanks for testing @andrewserong Let's do what you suggested. There was feedback somewhere about showing an icon, but naturally I can't find it. You're right: it is a bit busy and one of those cosmetic changes we can add later. |

The change here is so that tooltip on the block icon (visible but hidden for aria) matches the aria description.
There is, however, a difference: it doesn't announce that the block is currently hidden.
I'm thinking we should maybe say so, e.g.,
// When currently hidden:
"Block is currently hidden (Desktop)"
// When visible but hidden elsewhere:
"Block is hidden on Desktop, Tablet"
Or some variation on that?

Good question. Something I'm wondering: are we making it too complex by trying to indicate whether the block is currently hidden? I'd argue (again very weakly) that from the perspective of the list view, it's more about the structure of the document, rather than the current state of the editor.
So if I'm working on an item in the list view, I want to know how it's set (hidden on desktop, hidden in all viewports, etc), not the current state in the editor.
But again, please take my feedback here with a grain of salt! I'm mostly trying to think: how can we simplify things 🙂

I'd be fine with leaving it as is. There'll inevitably be feedback. Maybe we can ship (after utility function) and iterate maybe?

Sounds good. IMO iterating based on feedback sounds valid during the beta period if there's feedback on it being confusing or hard to use.

Is this information useful though? If you have visual access to the screen you can tell straightaway, and is it relevant if you can't see the screen at all?

Good question. Maybe if you're traversing the block tree, I dunno. Maybe I was reaching a bit. I guess it depends on the context, and in the list view it's not a huge deal.
But I'm glad you're questioning it, helps cement the decision to just leave it for now 😄

This is testing nicely for me!
From testing with VoiceOver on Mac there isn't a duplicate announcement of the block hidden status, either, so this feels pretty good to me.
Now that we have a Tooltip on the icon in the list view, it's making me wonder if (as an enhancement not a blocker for 7.0) it's worth allowing some of the icons within a list view to be clicked to open modals. If so, we'd likely want to be consistent and also do this with the lock icon for block locking. Just a thought / idea, and it might not be a good one 😄
In any case, this looks good to me!

Thanks for raising that point. That would align it with the toolbar at least. I added it to the iteration issue a while back as a nice to have. Maybe it's one of those things that we can experiment with and, if folks like it, slip it into a post Beta release if there is one. |

What?
This PR adds a tooltip to the hidden block indicator in the list view. It also harmonizes the tooltip and the block accessibility description to declare where a block is hidden, not when.
Relates to #73776
Why?
When a block is hidden on specific viewports, the list view currently just shows the eye icon with no indication of which viewports are affected.
Now a tooltip will do that!
Also, to make the tooltip and the aria description match.
