Walkthrough

This update enhances error handling in the GraphQL client shutdown process and optimizes identity change detection in the Mothership connection service. The changes ensure robust cleanup of client resources and prevent redundant identity change event emissions by comparing state snapshots.

Changes

File(s) Change Summary
.../graphql.client.ts Wrapped Apollo and WebSocket client cleanup in try-catch blocks, improved error logging, removed terminate() call.
.../connection.service.ts Replaced bufferTime with debounceTime, added lastIdentity property, used deep equality check to prevent redundant identity change events.

Possibly related PRs

  • fix: debounce is too long #1426: Adjusts debounce durations in config persistence and connection service, related through timing logic but not identity event emission.

Suggested reviewers

Poem

When identity changes, let’s not shout twice,
Now we check before ringing the device.
Errors in cleanup? We catch and we log—
No more surprises to baffle or clog!
With careful debounce and robust design,
Our code’s running smooth—simply divine.

13-13: Consider more specific typing.

The lastState property could benefit from more specific typing to match the store's state type.

-private lastState: object | null = null;
+private lastState: ReturnType<typeof store.getState> | null = null;

File: api/src/unraid-api/auth/api-key.service.ts:62-70
Timestamp: 2024-11-05T14:49:07.308Z
Learning: In `api/src/unraid-api/auth/api-key.service.ts`, when handling read errors in the `findById` method, throw a `GraphQLError` instead of an `InternalServerErrorException`.

Learning: In the Unraid API project, error handling for mutations is handled at the service level rather than in the GraphQL resolvers. Specifically, in `api/src/unraid-api/graph/resolvers/auth/auth.resolver.ts`, methods like `removeRoleFromApiKey` rely on service-level error handling.

Timestamp: 2024-12-11T17:20:09.604Z
Learning: In `web/helpers/apollo-cache/index.ts`, when updating the cache in the `cache.updateQuery` function, it's sufficient to check if `data` is present, as type checking inside `data` is handled at the GraphQL layer.

5-5: Import looks good.

The isEqual import from lodash-es is appropriate for deep equality checking.

17-25: structuredClone usage is safe in our target environment

We’ve confirmed that we don’t specify an engines.node field, but our codebase already uses structuredClone in multiple places (e.g. Apollo cache, utils, factory, plugins) and—per our Node 20/browser targets—it’s fully supported. A JSON-based clone (JSON.parse(JSON.stringify(…))) would be slower and lose special types (Dates, Maps, etc.).

• If you’d like to guarantee the Node version moving forward, consider adding an engines.node: ">=20.0.0" entry to package.json.
• For very large states, keep an eye on performance (e.g. debounce syncs or diff smaller slices), but no immediate change is required here.
