Problem

Summary Comments and Timeline displayed review replies as unrelated cards, separating a finding from the conversation that followed. They now share one conversation model: the finding stays first, replies remain chronological, and filtering and paging keep the whole conversation together.

Change

Resolved or dismissed threads fold as a unit, including after activity refresh; reopening expands them, while ordinary refresh preserves manual folding. A status transition remounts the thread row and can discard its unsaved inline editor, matching Summary’s existing transition behavior. Partial threads show known missing replies or “More replies” for an unknown count, with a host link when available. Canonical comment objects preserve edit permissions, reactions and URLs. Counts include independently loaded discussion comments, preserving a larger host total; the truncation notice reports what is loaded without promising recency. Summary/Timeline continue to direct readers to the host for unloaded replies; the Code tab is unchanged. A conversation stays at its finding’s time, so a new reply to an old finding can remain behind older-conversation paging. Unresolved Timeline threads start expanded; high-volume rendering was not benchmarked.

Scope and approval

This is the maintainer takeover of the existing finding/reply grouping fix, authorized and scoped in the takeover comment. It changes the two web comment views and their shared model; it adds no host workflow, wire contract, platform capability or dependency. Human visual approval remains outstanding.

Thanks @MarconLP for the original thread-data investigation and grouping implementation in #20894. This maintainer rebuild preserves the contributor history and merges main normally. It replaces the duplicate grouping paths with the shared model and reuses existing cards, editors and reaction controls.

Verification

Verification at b1f5dddcbd, against main d5fdfdcf05: original 17 added tests → six behavior cases; 175 passing across three existing suites (140 logic, four Summary browser, 31 Panel browser), including all 169 baseline cases at the new base. The retained-tab lifecycle regression extends an existing case: before the fix it reports Resolved while remaining expanded; after the one-line row-identity fix the entire resolve, manual fold, refresh, reopen and dismissal sequence passes. Web typecheck, targeted lint, formatting and diff checks pass. The pre-existing checks-list array-index warning remains. Main’s keyboard/attachment investigation suites also pass locally (14 cases). Two original and two main-refresh full-diff review rounds were completed; final Sol and Opus reviewers found no confirmed code issue. Verification scope and results.

Main was merged normally, retaining both sides of the browser-test conflict and main’s checkout diagnostics/Code-tab background refresh. The old-head web failure and workflow approval status are historical; all executable CI jobs and CodeRabbit passed on this published head (2026-10-20 UTC), including Test Web and the aggregate Check. CodeRabbit reviewed all eight changed files and generated no actionable comments. One duplicate fingerprint run was cancelled by the configured concurrency group; the same-head fingerprint validation succeeded. Skipped preview/native jobs remain skipped. Human visual approval and real-host/native checks below remain outstanding. No checks were bypassed and nothing was merged.

Matched production-component Chromium captures use exact main d5fdfdcf05 and this head with the same synthetic fixture, viewport, filters, scroll and shared current styling/markdown. Both capture runs pass; resolved-thread expand/refold, loaded replies, partial count and root host-link assertions also pass on the head.

Summary Before Summary: finding and replies appear as separate cards After Summary: replies stay under their finding
Timeline Before Timeline: findings and replies are flattened After Timeline: each finding owns its replies and resolved threads fold

Evidence uses the authorized repository browser-test workflow, not a complete connected-app session. The earlier built-in preview attempts returned “Preview automation snapshot timed out after 15000ms.” and “Preview automation navigate timed out after 15000ms.” Human visual approval and real-host editing, reactions and navigation remain. Electron, macOS, Windows, iOS and Android were not exercised. Desktop shares these web components; mobile presentation and local/remote/tunnel contracts are unchanged.

Models/harness: gpt-6-astra tests, gpt-6.1-sol implementation, gpt-6-sol and claude-opus-5-5 independent review; Codex/T3 Code, Claude for read-only review.

Inline review threads were flattened into separate comments, so a finding
and the reply that answers it days later showed up as unrelated cards far
apart. Each thread the conversation lists now renders as one timeline entry
at its root comment's time, with path:line, Resolved and Outdated badges,
and the replies nested in time order. A thread is always its own row and
never folds into an "N comments" group. Threads with unloaded replies show
an "N more replies" hint with a link to the host. Comments no thread claims
stay flat, as before.

The Summary tab's comment list was flat, so a reply such as "Fixed in
f087cb3d" sat at the top while the finding it answered was a separate
card further down. Each review thread is now one item at its root
comment's time: the finding first, with path:line, then the replies
indented under it, oldest first. A resolved thread folds into one row
that opens to show the finding and its replies.

Filters and paging act on whole threads. A thread shows when any of its
comments passes the filter on its own, so a bot finding stays beside the
human reply to it; a resolved thread hides as a whole. "Show older"
counts a thread as one item, so a page never splits a thread. The
grouping helper is shared with the timeline.

📝 Walkthrough

Pull request comments are grouped with review threads for filtering, pagination, ordering, and display. The summary tab renders thread replies together, and the timeline tab shows thread location, status, replies, and unloaded-reply metadata.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to b1f5d

Review findings and their replies now stay together as one conversation in the Summary and Timeline views. The paging controls count conversations, and partially loaded threads show their full reply totals or a "More replies" indicator. No outstanding issue blocks merging.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to b1f5d

The change is confined to the pull-request web experience and retains existing permission checks and scoped mutation requests. No introduced security concern was established. Some assumptions about provider-supplied thread data and state reset across environment changes remain unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • observed — The inspected mutation requests remain scoped to a selected environment and pull-request reference. Comment edits additionally carry comment ID and kind; reactions carry the event’s subject ID. Conversation grouping does not itself grant broader mutation authority.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Root and reply edit affordances reuse the existing policy: repository comment-edit capability, a supported comment kind, and explicit host edit permission or matching viewer/author identity. Review-summary edits remain excluded.
  • observed — The additional-replies link uses opener isolation. Its URL comes from grouped comment data, while the shared schema permits nullable strings without specifying a URL allowlist. Upstream scheme and host validation was not established by this inspection.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Nested Timeline cards reuse the existing save lifecycle: an in-flight guard, scoped request, retained editor on failure, and close plus refresh on success. Cancellation is local. Resolution and dismissal participate in the new thread component key, resetting its expansion state when those statuses change.

Taking over this one as maintainer for batch pull-request-14. I’ll keep the original PR and contributor history, rebuild the smallest grouping change against current main, reduce redundant tests, and verify both comment views with partial reply counts, filters and whole-conversation paging. Thanks @MarconLP for tracing the thread data and demonstrating the finding/reply grouping.

Refreshed this takeover at b1f5dddcbd. Main was merged normally, resolving the browser-test conflict while retaining both cases. A fresh full-diff review also reproduced a retained-Timeline bug: a newly resolved thread stayed expanded. The existing browser case now covers the status/refresh lifecycle, and a one-line row-identity fix makes it pass without adding another test case.

All 175 focused PR tests pass, along with web typecheck, targeted lint/format and the 14 inherited keyboard/attachment investigation cases. Both final independent reviewers found no code issue. The body now embeds matched current-base/current-head captures, links the proof report, and includes the required scope/approval sections. Human visual approval and real-host/native verification remain explicit limits.

The branch now merges cleanly with current main. New-head workflow runs were approved; CI and configured bot review still need to complete. The old-head Web failure is not being counted as a new-head result. Nothing was merged.

* fix(shared): the mobile client's release reads stay on upstream's repository

apps/mobile is upstream's client and checks upstream's releases, so the
release page and index it shares with the CLI default to upstream. Satellite's
own CLI update passes RELEASE_REPOSITORY.

* fix(satellite): reject retired migration id 100 and split the release index helper

runSatelliteMigrations now refuses Revdoc's retired id 100, so the rule no
longer lives only in a comment. Satellite's CLI calls releaseIndexPageUrl with
its repository; cliReleaseIndexPageUrl remains the upstream wrapper the
unmodified mobile client imports. Comment fixes from the review.
