What

Brings three entry-form fixes from release/6.5.0 into next:

6.5.0 Change How it came over
#5793 (Pavel) Resolve $. rule targets inside list items. Also code-defined datetime fields default to "with timezone", and DateTimeZ is a core scalar Adapted, see below
#5794 (Pavel) Show rejected save errors in the entry form (CmsEntryError) One import conflict
#5859 (Adrian) Lay out object and dynamic zone fields by their stored layout Two context conflicts, see below

Not in this PR:

Adaptations

Worth a look

  • Behaviour change for code-defined models: fields.datetime() without a subtype now becomes dateTimeWithTimezone, via DateTimeFieldType.ts in api-headless-cms. Before, the GraphQL, storage and admin layers each assumed a different format. A code-defined model that relied on the old missing subtype now gets timezone-aware values.
  • extensions/models/RulesCatalog.ts (805 lines) is a fixture model that catalogues the condition rules, for checking rule evaluation by hand. No config registers it, and 6.5.0 doesn't either.

Checks

  • yarn build passes.
  • Tests pass for app-admin (520), app-headless-cms (67) and api-core (210), plus api-headless-cms allFieldsModel.test.ts. With scalar DateTimeZ taken out of ApiCoreSchemaFactory, the new scalar test fails.
  • adio, sync-dependencies, oxfmt and oxlint are clean. The webiny package generator changes nothing. check:test:types shows only the errors already on next (app-admin 8, api-core 15), none in files this PR touches.

Not checked in a browser.

(cherry picked from commit 3b770f5)

Adapted for next: next builds the core schema in api-core's ApiCoreSchemaFactory instead of handler-graphql's createGraphQLSchema, so DateTimeZ is declared there. The scalar test moves from api-graphql to api-core, because api-graphql's test handler doesn't load the core schema.

(cherry picked from commit f040587)

Adapted for next: the 6.5.0 mappers also generate a hidden _id per object and template item, which comes from #5606 and isn't on next yet. Only the layout part of this commit is applied.

⚠️ 3 thing(s) worth a look before merging.

PR is coherent with its stated intent (porting three 6.5.0 entry-form fixes into next); no secrets, no merge markers, no unexplained deletions. One stray console.warn and a very large (but disclosed, unregistered) fixture file are worth a second look.

🚨 Should this be in the PR?

🟡 Low — Large fixture file (RulesCatalog.ts, 805 lines) not registered anywhere

extensions/models/RulesCatalog.ts adds 805 lines as an unused/unregistered manual-testing fixture. The PR description explicitly calls this out as intentional ('a fixture model... No config registers it, and 6.5.0 doesn't either.'), so this is disclosed and consistent with stated intent, but flagging for visibility since it's by far the largest file in the diff and could look like accidental bulk at a glance.

🟡 Low — Footprint is broad but matches a documented multi-fix port

The diff touches 30 files across api-core, api-headless-cms, app-admin, app-headless-cms and an extensions fixture, which is wide for a 'fix' PR title, but the description explicitly enumerates three separate fixes being ported plus clearly-labeled adaptations (DateTimeZ scalar relocation, CmsEntryError merge, layout-only port of #5859). No unrelated deletions or unexplained churn were found; this looks coherent with the stated intent rather than a bad rebase/merge.

📏 Code-style rule checks

🟠 Medium — console.warn used in frontend builder (not backend, but still a stray debug log)

packages/app-headless-cms/src/features/formModel/CmsFormModelBuilder.ts adds console.warn(...) inside withCompatibleRenderer, gated by process.env.NODE_ENV === "development". This is app-admin/CMS frontend code, not api-*, so no-console-in-backend.md doesn't technically apply, but it reads as leftover debug logging; consider routing through whatever client-side logging/dev-warning convention the codebase otherwise uses instead of a raw console call.

Automated, non-blocking heads-up from an LLM. It can be wrong — use your judgment. Regenerates on every push.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

This PR adds form-model layout and rule-path support, maps content-entry save failures to form errors, and updates date-time defaults, renderer selection, and GraphQL scalar registration.

Changes

Form Model Rules and Layouts

Layer / File(s) Summary
Object and template layout configuration
packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/abstractions.ts, packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/fieldTypes/ObjectFieldType.ts
Object fields and templates accept inner layouts. The builder stores the layouts and rejects an object that combines an object-level layout with templates.
Nested layout application
packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/ObjectField.ts, packages/app-headless-cms/src/features/formModel/CmsLayoutMapper.ts, packages/app-headless-cms/src/features/formModel/CmsFormModelBuilder.ts, packages/app-headless-cms/src/features/formModel/mappers/*, packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/FormModel.test.ts, packages/app-headless-cms/src/features/formModel/CmsFormModelBuilder.test.ts
ObjectField applies layouts to object children and merges template layouts with overrides. CMS layout mapping applies stored layouts to objects and dynamic-zone templates, and adds rows for fields not present in a stored layout.
Scope-aware rule paths
packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/Field.ts, packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/ObjectField.ts, packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/abstractions.ts, packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/FormModel.test.ts
Fields resolve $. rule targets and callback navigation using scope paths. Tests cover list-item scopes, nested lists, sibling updates, reordering, and removal.
Rule scenario model
extensions/models/RulesCatalog.ts
The RulesCatalog model demonstrates conditions across field types, nested objects and lists, dynamic zones, tabs, and renderer cardinality cases.

Content Entry Save Errors

Layer / File(s) Summary
Typed errors from entry gateways
packages/app-headless-cms/src/features/contentEntry/CmsEntryError.ts, packages/app-headless-cms/src/features/contentEntry/.../*Gateway.ts
Create, revision, and update gateways throw CmsEntryError when a response has no entry. The error stores the CMS error data and code.
Form error conversion and assignment
packages/app-headless-cms/src/presentation/contentEntries/form/toFormErrors.ts, packages/app-headless-cms/src/presentation/contentEntries/form/*, packages/app-headless-cms/src/presentation/contentEntries/singleEntry/SingleEntryPresenter.ts, packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/FormModel.ts, packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/abstractions.ts, packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/FormErrors.tsx, packages/app-headless-cms/src/features/formModel/CmsFormModelBuilder.test.ts, packages/app-headless-cms/src/presentation/contentEntries/form/toFormErrors.test.ts, packages/app-aco/src/presentation/folderTree/FolderTreePresenter.test.ts
toFormErrors maps CMS errors to form paths, including list indexes and dynamic-zone fields. Save presenters assign converted errors. FormModel.setErrors applies errors to visible fields or retains them at form level.

Date-Time Handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Date-time renderer selection
packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/fieldTypes/DateTimeFieldType.ts, packages/app-admin/src/features/formModel/FieldBuilder.test.ts, packages/app-headless-cms/src/features/formModel/CmsFormModelBuilder.ts, packages/app-headless-cms/src/features/formModel/CmsFormModelBuilder.test.ts
Date-time subtype methods select a renderer based on list status. The CMS form model builder checks renderer compatibility and removes a list-only renderer from a single-value field.
Default date-time subtype
packages/api-headless-cms/src/features/modelBuilder/fields/DateTimeFieldType.ts, packages/api-headless-cms/__tests__/modelBuilder/allFieldsModel.test.ts, skills/user-skills/content-models/SKILL.md
The model builder defaults date-time fields to dateTimeWithTimezone. The test and skill documentation cover the default and subtype usage.
DateTimeZ scalar registration
packages/api-core/src/graphql/ApiCoreSchemaFactory.ts, packages/api-core/__tests__/builtInScalars.test.ts
The API core schema declares and registers DateTimeZ. A test checks that an offset timestamp is returned unchanged.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~60 minutes

Change: Bug fix

Suggested reviewers: pavel910

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to f4304

Fix save-error handling before merging: navigating during a failed save can affect the wrong form, and repeated failures can leave stale field errors displayed.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to f4304

The changes have limited observed security impact, but delayed save failures can affect a replacement form after navigation. This is a client-side recovery and state-ownership issue; broader security coverage remains incomplete.

Retained concerns

  • Low · reliability · inferred: The newly added save-rejection handlers apply errors to the current mutable form rather than the initiating form. If navigation or reinitialization replaces that form while a save is pending, the rejection can invalidate the replacement form; after cleanup, it can disrupt the expected false-result recovery. This is a client-side failure-containment and state-ownership concern, not an established server authorization bypass.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated stale-rejection impact is bounded to client-side form validation and recovery state. The inspected continuation does not itself grant privileges or modify server authorization.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — CMS rejection content crosses into the admin form as error data and messages. The inspected rendering sink uses text interpolation rather than raw HTML insertion; no script-execution sink was established along this mapping path.
  • inferred — RulesCatalog declares a public model, but the scoped registration investigation found no consumer outside its declaration in the searched extensions and packages paths. Effective deployed CRUD exposure was therefore not established; external registration remains outside that evidence.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — The save lifecycle lacks an initiating-form ownership check for delayed rejection. Navigation cleanup and form replacement make the new error assignment susceptible to stale responses, while the analogous success-path mutation existed before this PR.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Clear previous external field errors when replacing the error set.

After setErrors([{ path: "sku", message: "Value must be unique." }]), calling setErrors([]) sets isValid to true but leaves the sku validation error in errors. The form then reports both isValid: true and hasErrors: true.

Repeated rejected saves can also retain errors from an earlier response because saveRevision() skips validation by default. Track and clear previously assigned external field errors before applying the new set. Keep validity consistent with the remaining errors.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Bind rejected saves to the submitting form.

Both rejection handlers read this.form after asynchronous work. Reset or disposal can make that reference null, causing the handler to reject instead of returning false. Form replacement can instead attach the old request's errors to a new form.

Capture the submitting form and model before asynchronous work. Apply errors only while that form is still active.

  • packages/app-headless-cms/src/presentation/contentEntries/form/ContentEntryFormPresenter.ts#L174-L174: Check the captured form's identity before assigning errors after reset(), newEntry(), or loadRevision().
  • packages/app-headless-cms/src/presentation/contentEntries/singleEntry/SingleEntryPresenter.ts#L87-L87: Check the captured form's identity before assigning errors after dispose() or init().
