Hello! My name is Alex. I humbly request to add my translations of index.html and v1.0.0.md into Russian language.
I encourage any Russian-speaking contributors to proofread my work.

I also request opinions about whether all the keys should be russified or not. On one hand, it would improve the understanding of the examples given in the specification to the people who are not very familiar with the English language. On the other hand, it would clutter examples with lots of quotes and rid readers of the joy of bare keys.

Thank you, TOML team, for your awesome work. I hope my contibution will be useful to the community. <3

@forkgenesis Thanks for your contribution! Unfortunately I can't (proof)read Russian, but otherwise it looks fine to me.

As for whether or not to translate the keys, I have no strong opinion and would leave it to you to find a good solution. Other translations, such as Portuguese, have translated some but not all of the keys – maybe that makes sense here too. Some bare keys should certainly remain, which as of now unfortunately means basic Latin. We had hoped to fix that in v1.1, but it now seems that such a fix will arrive, at the earliest, in v1.2 🙁 .

  1. Thank you! Would you be so kind as to merge my changes? Or I can wait for the v1.1 release and then I'd send a PR.
  2. I've ended up translating only some of the keys. Besides, I think it's fine that bare keys remain ASCII-only for now ^^

@ChristianSi

@forkgenesis No I don't think there's any need to wait for v1.1; having another translation of v1.0 is good in any case.

@arp242 @pradyunsg What do you think? Is this good to merge as it is, or would you suggest changes?

Any objections to merging this? If not, I'll do it in three days or so.

I don't speak Russian. I can't even build the website. So I have no idea and can't check anything.

Sorry if you got bombarded with notifications. I added another commit which fixed some lexical and grammatical errors, translated a couple of texts that hadn't been translated earlier, and translated some more code where it wouldn't interfere with the study of the specification.

@arp242 I don't speak Russian either, but I did some quick checks and the translation seems basically okay, so I'd tend to merge it unless there's explicit opposition.

As for building the website: Well I must admit I have no idea either. I could merge this but I don't know whether that'll automatically trigger a regeneration of the website or else how to trigger it. @pradyunsg can you tell us?

What we've done in the past is asked around for another native speaker (in addition to the translator) to step forward and review the translation.

IIRC, this repo is setup with Netlify and it'll rebuild when the PR is merged.

I'd suggest checking past PRs, since AFAIK we didn't need to change anything outside of the repository to add new translations.

Russian is my mother language.

I'm probably not on a level of someone living full-time in Russia, not up to date with modern slang, but good enough to read average books. So I'll take a stab at this.

Here is a preview page from Netlify that I've found

I think this is a great start.

But some translation is one to one from English, but sounds kinda weird in Russian, while technically being correct. I suggest we should apply some artistic translation here to improve readability.

I added couple of nits for consideration.

Thank you, Stas! I'll update the translation accordingly and then check it once more if some sections do need some artistic approach. The team of TOML, please, don't merge this PR for now <3
