Using the Randomizer

techmuse edited this page Jan 29, 2026 · 3 revisions

Introduction

Upon starting the randomizer after having all the required dependencies installed, you will be greeted to this window. From here, you can select your clean dump of the 2.12.1 update from Splatoon 1 for any region. Any other version/modified files will not work. Currently the randomizer checks for the validity of the following files:

  • Gambit.rpx found in the code folder
  • Static.pack and Layout.pack found in content/Static
  • All of the LayoutMsg and CommonMsg .szs files in content/Message

You can also choose to input your own randomizer seed or generate one randomly, useful if you want to do things such as randomizer races with friends. If left blank, the randomizer will generate a seed for you upon randomization.

Main Options

Here are all of the options the randomizer currently has:

  • Kettles - Shuffles around all of the kettles in the game (bosses as well, though the boss kettles are randomized with each other with the exception of DJ Octavio, who is still the final boss)
  • Ink Colors - Randomizes the ink color sets with the option to choose the color sets from either Octo Valley or multiplayer battles)
  • Mission Dialogue - Randomizes all of the stage dialogue with Cap'n Cuttlefish, DJ Octavio, and Agent 1/2
  • Stage Music - Randomizes all of the singleplayer music tracks
  • Hero Weapons - Enable a setting that allows for the Hero Weapon to be randomized upon entering a stage (NOTE: Only the Hero Shot can be upgraded out of all the main weapons.)
  • Enemies - Randomizes the enemies that can appear throughout each stage, with logic applied to (hopefully) ensure that the player won't get softlocked (NOTE: Until a solution is found, Octolings are purposely excluded from the pool of enemies that can appear due to issues encountered with them when used outside of their intended environments.)
  • Item Drops - Randomizes the items that can be dropped from crates and enemies. The following options are available:
    • Favor Power Eggs: Makes it so that you are more likely to get Power Egg drops over specials/armor. Recommended for a more balanced experience.
    • Favor Powerups: Makes it so that you are more likely to get specials/armor drops over Power Eggs. Recommended for a less balanced experience.
    • Completely Random: Makes it so that the selected items are completely random. Recommended for a more chaotic experience.

You can also choose which platform you are planning to play the randomizer on, either a real Wii U console with Aroma custom firmware or the Cemu emulator. The platform you choose determines how the randomizer is outputted, so be sure to choose the correct one.

Misc. Options

This tab allows you to enable optional tweaks that provides additional quality-of-life enhancements to a randomized playthrough.

  • Skip Octo Valley Intro Cutscene - Skips the first cutscene that plays when entering Octo Valley for the first time on a fresh save file.
  • Skip First News Intro - Skips the initial news and plaza tour sequence that takes place after the tutorial.
  • Add Restart Option to Octo Valley's Pause Menu - Makes the stage restart option found in amiibo challenges available in standard Octo Valley gameplay.

Applying the Randomizer

After randomizing the game, the output randomizer patch will be placed in output/<platform> which can be found in the directory of the randomizer program. For a tutorial on how to apply the randomizer onto your game, consult the guides below depending on your platform of choice.
