Arrange keeps a clip group's clipping path first (#3188) - #3204

…rytold#3195) The Offset Path dialog remembers the values it was last confirmed with (storytold#1152), but the Preview checkbox was not among the kept fields, so every open started unchecked and Preview had to be ticked manually each time. Preview now rides along with offset, joins and miterLimit in the fields kept on OK, as Simplify's retained fields already keep theirs. Unchanged: a very first open (nothing kept yet) still starts unchecked, and Cancel keeps nothing. Adds a regression test beside offset_path_remembers_its_last_values: open, tick Preview, confirm, reopen - the checkbox is still on. Verified by reading the flow on current main (menus.rs opens on app.ui.offset_path when it is an object, d.bool("preview") defaults to false when the field is absent, form::preview_result ticks the checkbox into d.fields) and by tracing the existing storytold#1152 test; no Rust toolchain on this machine, so the test was not executed here - saying so plainly for the reviewer. A clip group's first (bottom-most) child is its clipping path, and a group with nothing to clip by hides its art. Send to Back (and Send Backward) inside a clip group could move the clipped art to that first position, displacing the clipping path: the group was then left with nothing to clip by and the art disappeared until it was brought to the front again - exactly the storytold#3188 report. Arrange now treats the clipping path as fixed: it stays the first child (Bring to Front/Send to Back of it are no-ops), and the other children stop just above it, as in Illustrator. Plain groups and layers arrange exactly as before. Adds a regression test beside the clip group tests: make a mask of art under a donut compound path, Send to Back the art (it stops just above the clip shape), Send Backward again (it cannot go lower), arrange the clip shape itself (it stays first), and the group still clips on screen and in SVG and PDF output. Verified by reading the model (NodeKind::Group{clip:true} keeps the clipping path in children[0], the renderer hides a clip group with nothing to clip by) and tracing arrange() on main; no Rust toolchain on this machine, so the test was not executed here - saying so plainly for the reviewer. 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Exclude the clipping path from arrangement offsets.
When the clipping path and a later child are selected, the clipping path consumes k = 0 even though Line 660 keeps it fixed. In a clip group ordered [mask, A, B], selecting [mask, B] makes Send to Back and Send Backward leave B at index 2. Skip the clipping path before enumerating movable children. Add a mixed-selection regression case.

Code-only review at 9a2325e; no CI has run on this head yet.
- crates/engine/src/cmd/object.rs:648 (arrange loop): the clipping path is counted in k. If it is selected together with art and you use Bring to Front, the clipping path stays put but the art is placed at last - k, so it ends one position below the top (and each further piece one lower again). The clipping path should be left out of the group before the loop, with the floor applied to the rest. The test only arranges one object at a time, so it does not catch this.
- The branch also carries the Offset Path preview change (#3195) in crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs/path_ops.rs and tests_modal.rs, which is unrelated to this fix and is already in its own PR (#3203). Please drop it from this one.
- Heads up: #3206 fixes the same issue (#3188), also covers clipping layers, and handles the clipping path in a mixed selection. Maintainers will want to land one of the two.

cargo xtask ci is incomplete or unchecked on this PR. Run it end to end (fmt, clippy, tests, assets, brands, layers, wasm), tick the checklist when green, and reply here with the outcome. That is required before any approve from here.

Thanks @rahul05ranjan. #3206 has landed with the fix for #3188. It covers clipping layers as well as clip groups, so I'm closing this one as covered. Your Offset Path Preview change (#3203) has landed separately. |
What's wrong
Repro from #3188: clip an image with a mask shape (Object › Clipping Mask › Make), then send the clipped image to the back (Ctrl+Shift+[). The image disappears; bringing it to the front shows it again.
The model: a clip group (
NodeKind::Group { clip: true }) keeps its clipping path as the first (bottom-most) child, and a clip group with nothing to clip by hides its art (crates/render/src/tests_clip.rs: "with nothing to clip by the clipped art is hidden").arrange()incrates/engine/src/cmd/object.rsmoved a node to any index of its parent — including index 0 of a clip group. So Send to Back put the art below the clipping path, the clip shape was no longer the first child, the group had nothing to clip by, and everything vanished until the art was brought forward again. What the fix does
Arrange inside a clip group now treats the clipping path as fixed, the way Illustrator's clip sets behave:
Plain groups and layers are untouched (
flooris 0 for them; every target index is identical to before). The change is ~8 lines inarrange():Verification
Regression test in
crates/engine/src/tests_clip.rs(same harness as the other clip group tests), asserting throughDocument::position:assert_outputs_agree).Caveat, plainly: I traced
arrange(), the clip-group model and the renderer's nothing-to-clip-by behaviour on currentmain, but had no Rust toolchain on the machine I worked from, so I could not runcargo testhere. The test mirrors the existing clip group tests line by line; if CI or review finds anything off, I'll fix it right away.Fixes #3188
