fix(store_weaviate): align preconfig default with the profile field default - #1952
Conversation
…efault services.json set the node's connection profile twice, to different values: preconfig.default was "cloud" while weaviate.profile.default was "local". Both describe the same choice, so which one took effect depended on how the config reached the node — preconfig.default is the fallback when a config carries no "profile" key (ai/common/config.py), while the field default is what the editor writes into a fresh node. Resolved toward "local": - The cloud profile ships host: "" and apikey: "", so falling back to it hands an unconfigured node a config that cannot connect. The local profile ships localhost:8080, which works against a stock Weaviate. - "local" is already what the editor writes and what the generated README params table documents, so this makes the two paths agree on the observed behaviour rather than changing it. - The node's own test.profiles is ["local"]. Also adds services.json invariant tests: the two defaults must match, the default profile must ship a usable host, and every preconfig profile must have a conditional branch on the field. The first two fail on the pre-fix schema. Fixes rocketride-org#1777

weaviate.py strips the host before use (weaviate.py:86), so a profile shipping ' ' resolves to an empty host at runtime while passing a plain truthiness check. Assert on the stripped value instead.

Confirmed the contradiction is still on develop - Two notes:

The node declared the same choice twice and the two disagreed, so which profile a user landed on depended on how the config reached the node — preconfig.default for a config with no profile key, weaviate.profile.default for a node dropped in the editor. Both now read local, verified in the file.
The invariant test is the part worth having: it keeps the pair from drifting apart again, which is what produced #1777.
Brings the docs revamp up to develop @ 9ded777 (45 commits) and resolves the 20 conflicting paths. Every claim taken from develop was checked against the code before being folded into the consolidated tree. Conflict resolutions: - .gitignore: keep this branch's removal of the three client package READMEs (they are committed generated copies that docs:check verifies); take develop's new packages/chat-widget/README.md entry. - llm_anthropic: take develop's extended-thinking table. Verified against llm_native_stream.py:60-142 — Claude 4.7+ rejects the legacy {enabled, budget_tokens} shape with a 400, so the legacy list is an allowlist and unknown models default to adaptive. This branch's table was stale and would have documented a shape that errors. - clients/index.md: take develop's package names. Verified against pyproject.toml and package.json — all three artifacts are `rocketride` 1.3.0; the `rocketlib-*` names here were stale, including in the install examples below the table. - 8 store_* nodes: fold in the honored tool filter/metadata keys from #1753, verified at document_store.py:775-796 (filter honors objectId/nodeId/parent, additionalProperties false) and :934-943 (metadata defaults). - text_output, llm_openai, store_chroma, tool_slack: fold develop's new facts into this branch's schema structure rather than reverting the migration. - 6 modify/delete paths: keep the delete. Five were already covered in the new tree (connect/cli.mdx, db_hotdata's README). The sixth was not — the `reused` flag from #2165 appeared nowhere under docs/public/, so it is ported into the TypeScript and Python pipelines.md and reference.md. Stale tables develop invalidated, refreshed from services.json: - llm_openai: 36 missing profiles added, 6 token mismatches corrected (#1784). - llm_anthropic: claude-fable-5-1 added; claude-opus-5-fast moved to the collapsed table. - store_weaviate: default profile flipped cloud -> local (#1952). Node README migration for the 7 nodes develop added while this branch was open — chunker, db_firestore, search_hybrid, tool_crustdata, tool_gcs, tool_notion, tool_vertex_search — all now conform to the README schema. docs/README-chat-widget.md moves to docs/public/chat-widget/README.md so the three-subtree contract holds; docs:gather ignores README.md, so it stages nothing, and the clients page links it by URL. The widget has no site route yet and is not in the clients table. Verified: docs:build (232 pages, 150 nodes, no broken links), docs:check, docs:test (57/57), validate-client-docs.py, and validate-node-readme.py across all 19 touched nodes (0 failed, 0 warnings). Summary
store_weaviate/services.jsondeclared the node's connection profile twice, to different values:preconfig.defaultwas"cloud"whileweaviate.profile.defaultwas"local". Set both tolocal.services.jsoninvariant tests so the two cannot drift apart again.nodes:docs-generatereads field defaults only (gen-node-tables.mjs:123), and the field default is unchanged. Why
localThe issue deliberately left the direction open, since it is a behaviour decision rather than something the schema settles on its own. The evidence points one way:
cloudprofile shipshost: ""andapikey: "". Falling back to it hands an unconfigured node a config that cannot connect. Thelocalprofile shipslocalhost:8080, which works against a stock Weaviate.localis already what the editor writes into a fresh node and what the generated README params table documents. Aligningpreconfig.defaultto it makes the two paths agree on the behaviour users already observe, rather than changing that behaviour.test.profilesis["local"].For context on why the two entry points differ at all:
preconfig.defaultis the fallback used when a config carries noprofilekey (packages/ai/src/ai/common/config.py:142), whereasweaviate.profile.defaultis the schema default the editor pre-fills. A hand-written.pipetherefore resolved tocloudwhile an editor-created one resolved tolocal.Type

Testing
./builder testpassesnodes/test/store_weaviate/test_services_profile_default.py— 3 tests, all passing. I reverted the schema change and confirmed 2 of the 3 fail on the pre-fix file, so they are not vacuous:The tests parse
services.jsondirectly and import nothing from the node, so they run without a built engine.ruff checkandruff format --checkare clean on the new file.I did not run the full
./builder test— it needs the built engine, which I do not have set up locally. The siblingtest_record_updates.pyfails in my environment on a missingdependsmodule, pre-existing and unrelated to this change. One pre-existing note:
prettier --checkalready flaggedstore_weaviate/README.mdbefore this change (table alignment). I left it rather than mix an unrelated reformat into this diff.Checklist
.pipewith an explicitprofilekey does.Note for reviewers
While checking whether this pattern was isolated, I scanned all 39 profile-bearing nodes. Three others have the same contradiction and are not touched here, since each is its own behaviour decision:
