ApprovabilityVerdict: Approved at Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a narrowly scoped web bug fix that preserves selected thread identity in custom question answers while retaining existing structured references for normal messages. Runtime changes are confined to the composer/question-answer flow and are covered by targeted editor and answer-construction tests. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

Additional GPT-6 Astra minimality review requested by the author, performed sequentially with PR #16971 using native Codex read-only agent Verdict: APPROVE — already a small practical fix. Actual GitHub/local HEAD reviewed: The answer-specific link and conditional context write are both needed to retain usable thread identity without contaminating the ordinary draft. The 14-line helper reuses existing formatters and connects the regression test to the production formatting decision; inlining would only relocate the logic. Skipping ordinary-draft synchronization and removing eager parent refocus address separate stale-state paths. The tests cover answer and ordinary-message behavior; the short docs addition explains the identity-only link. No wire expansion or unnecessary machinery was found. Optional cleanup only: the composer callback signature and its two call sites still carry three cursor arguments that the parent no longer consumes. Removing those arguments would tidy the interface, but is not a correctness finding or a required reduction in this fix. The composer's own cursor calculations and deferred focus must remain. No code revision was made for this optional note. Astra inspected actual source/tests, repository guidance, issue/maintainer comments and published validation records. Evidence assets were confirmed present; screenshots/video were not independently replayed. This was code review, not another test/build run. No servers, browser, builds, tests or additional agents were launched by the reviewer. Existing Docker/browser and final Opus evidence remain applicable to the unchanged HEAD. |

4121-4146: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winAdd a caller-level regression test for active-question thread selection.
When an active question exists,
ChatComposermust insert the thread link and skipaddComposerDraftThreadContexts. The new test callscomposerThreadReferenceTextdirectly, so it would still pass if the caller used ordinary formatting or added the record to draft context. Test the thread selection branch with an active question and assert both outcomes.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Selecting another thread with Tab in a question's custom answer could restore stale text/caret and put the selected thread's context record in the ordinary message draft. The answer request has no channel for that record, so the agent did not receive usable thread identity.
This keeps the thread picker available and inserts a readable thread link with its exact ID into the answer text. Agents with T3 Code tools can retrieve that thread. It does not automatically attach thread history. Normal messages retain their structured thread chips. The composer now owns replacement selection, and ordinary-draft synchronization skips active questions so it cannot overwrite their text.
Fixes #18233. Incorporates the latest maintainer triage.

Scope and limitations
Web and desktop share this composer; mobile has a separate plain answer input without this picker. Contracts and server/provider adapters are unchanged. Source inspection confirmed plain answer text handling for Codex, Claude, Grok and OpenCode; Cursor has no structured-question capability and Antigravity uses choice-only questions.
The integrated check submitted through the real WebSocket path and verified the persisted resolved answer. The synthetic fixture seeded projections directly; it is not evidence of a full event-sourcing scenario. The following provider turn could not run because the isolated container has no Codex CLI. Live provider retrieval, native Electron/macOS/mobile and separate remote/tunnel deployments were not exercised. Tab was verified in the browser; Enter/mouse share the same inspected selection callback.
Pre-existing PR-picker (
#) and terminal-context answer paths may still write unavailable context references to normal drafts. They are separate follow-ups, along with wider file/skill picker behavior.Minimality follow-up
