stop "COVID-19 Pandemic Hours" field being shown if opening_hours:covid19
is not present

This request is reasonable, but I think that editors should not be the first to implement this change. If there is consensus (which I would assume there is), a start would be to update the various pages on the osm wiki to reflect this new way of handling this topic. Afterwards, we can update the presets here. |
Modified https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:opening_hours:covid19 a bit, posted to tagging mailing list as a sanity check |
It seems that there is a clear support for stopping promotion of that tag, at least I interpreted it this way. |
Can someone else review https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2022-February/thread.html#63959 and judge is there consensus to stop prominent promotion of that tag? Note also that recently many places started dropping COVID restrictions, at least for now. And I think that noone expects COVID19 to be fully eradicated any time soon. |
Unless I missed some messages or misunderstood meaning, I didn't see anyone saying this field should remain. |
…by making the field an optional field which is not displayed by default when selecting a preset. This approach allows mapeprs to easily see now potentially outdated pandemic opening hours and check/update/fix/convert them accordinly.
4de347d starts the phasing out of this field by making the field an optional ( PS: Here's a current usage graph of the tag: I tend to keep the field around until we have at least one of the following:

Thanks! Not sure whether we will reach any time soon a situation where this tag should be removed on sight which would justify a deprecation rule. And in such case mass edit in local area, approved by local community would be likely superior anyway.
This is achieved, so I will close this issue.
Though for the love of all what is holy: do not try to run undiscussed bot/mass edits to achieve this! Consult with local community before doing this. EDIT: see https://taghistory.raifer.tech/#***/opening_hours%3Acovid19/ for a progress. Trend seems clear, hopefully noone will mess it up with undiscussed bot edits. |

This is heavily inspired by https://github.com/streetcomplete/StreetComplete/blob/master/QUEST_GUIDELINES.md – thanks a lot See also: * #401 (comment) * #1229 (comment) * https://github.com/openstreetmap/id-tagging-schema/pull/1229/files/6776de01e228681d671186e8bc7d412c22aaabd0#r1669745086
At this point it is clear that COVID19 is not going to disappear and changed opening hours should be tagged in
opening_hours
There is no point in encouraging people to fill this field
