Tracking: Web Data menu (parity with GeoLibre's Web Services) #528

Closed

Description

@giswqs

Part of #77. GeoLibre's Plugins › Web Services submenu offers 34 public web services and catalogs. This issue tracks bringing them to RustGIS.

Placement

  • Every entry opens in a Web Data pane on the right (feat: Web Data catalog services (ArcGIS, Earthdata GIS, OAM, 3DEP, IGN LiDAR HD, GeoLens, Hugging Face, ODP, US GIS) in a Web Data pane #532), its results as cards modelled on GeoLibre's panels: thumbnail, type · owner · date, Details / Portal / Zoom / Add.

  • A new big Web Data dropdown button in Home › Add, next to Add Data.

  • One flat alphabetical list for the services that cover the whole world. A list grouped by topic would put a service in several places (STAC fits catalogs, cloud data and Earth observation), so there are no topic sections.

  • One submenu per country (United States ▸, France ▸) for services that cover one country, below a separator.

  • The web entries move out of Add Data, which keeps local files and connections: Data, Delimited Text, Geocode, From URL, From Service, Zarr, Database, S3, Graphics Layer and the sample data.

  • A service that is a fixed endpoint (one WMS or ArcGIS REST service) can be a row in the Data Sources pane's Library (sources::library()) instead of a dialog.

  • Very local services (one US state, for example) are better as plugins in rustgis-plugins, as ide-chile already does.

PRs

Global (alphabetical list)

Already in RustGIS (moved by the first PR):

To add:

United States ▸

France ▸

Elsewhere already

  • S3 Browser (geolibre-s3-browser): RustGIS has Add Data › S3…, which stays in Add Data as a connection.

Every service must work in the web app too (requests through the tile cache's downloads, as the existing dialogs do), or say why it can't.

Done: every GeoLibre Web Services entry now has a RustGIS counterpart under Home › Web Data, each opening in the Web Data pane on the right, with results as cards modelled on GeoLibre's panels.

Main at 76fecdc, from the headless app: the menu, and its United States submenu.

Home › Web Data menu on main Web Data United States submenu on main

Not ported (each noted in its PR): ArcGIS Portal sign-in (public items only), GeoLens raster datasets, Earthaccess downloads of whole granules and HDF5 (ICESat-2/GEDI) files, Sentinel-2 band composites built in the app, Satellite Embeddings clip/download and drawn-box search. A few style nits were left open with replies on #542 for a follow-up.
