security(deps): sync two non-shipping manifests to the fastapi/uvicorn security floor (#15661) - #16893
Conversation
…n security floor (#15661) docs/guides/requirements-local.txt and autobot-npu-worker/resources/windows-npu-worker/requirements.txt both stated fastapi/uvicorn floors below the security floor every shipped manifest states (fastapi requires starlette >=0.52.1, the O(n^2) Range-header DoS fix) -- undetected because the ansible/requirements parity guard resolves per-site and neither file is an ansible-provisioned site, and neither package is on constraints/shared.txt. Reconciled fastapi/uvicorn on both files to the shipped floor, and redis/structlog on both (docs/guides carried stale >=7.4.0/>=24.0.0; windows-npu-worker carried the same stale redis and a stale structlog -- same defect class, same file already being edited, its sibling docker manifest states the current floor for all four). New guard (repo_tests/requirements_floor_pairs_15661_test.py) compares these two specific pairs' fastapi/uvicorn version constraints directly (extras stripped, since docs/guides legitimately carries uvicorn[standard] where autobot-backend/requirements.txt carries bare uvicorn). Deliberately not a constraints/shared.txt migration: adding fastapi/uvicorn there would make every shipped manifest -- a dozen-plus files -- a violation the moment any one of them still states its own floor, a much larger change than this issue's actual two-file defect warrants.
📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe pull request raises dependency floors in the local and Windows NPU worker manifests. It adds tests for FastAPI and Uvicorn floor parity and records the change in the unreleased security changelog. ChangesDependency floor synchronisation

Add a contrast pair for this detector.
This test only checks the current conforming manifests. It does not prove that the detector fails when a target floor is lower than its reference floor. Add isolated temporary manifests for one matching pair and one mismatched pair, then assert the expected pass and fail results.
As per path instructions: “Every detector needs a contrast pair: a fixture that SHOULD trip it and one that should not.”

Review verdict: APPROVE. Small, correct, and the guard is built the right way round. The change syncs two non-shipping manifests — a Windows NPU worker requirements file and a docs guide — to the fastapi/uvicorn security floor the shipped manifests already carry. Non-shipping is why this sat unnoticed: nothing installs from them in production, so nothing failed, and a reader copying from the docs guide would have installed the vulnerable floor. The test is the part worth commenting on. It has two functions, and the pairing is what makes it trustworthy:
The No overlap with anything |
Single-issue rationale: nothing else in the 23-issue v0.9.0 security batch touches these two dependency manifests or this guard shape.
Thinking Path
docs/guides/requirements-local.txtandautobot-npu-worker/resources/windows-npu-worker/requirements.txtboth stated fastapi/uvicorn floors below the security floor every shipped manifest states — fastapi's floor requires starlette>=0.52.1(the O(n²) Range-header DoS fix). Verified against currentorigin/mainbefore treating either as still-open: both were exactly as stale as the issue describes.Neither existing guard catches this class: the ansible/requirements parity guard (
repo_tests/ansible_requirements_parity_test.py) resolves per-site now (#15629) and neither of these two files is an ansible-provisioned site;scripts/check_constraint_drift.pyonly guards packages listed inconstraints/shared.txt, and fastapi/uvicorn aren't on it.For AC3's "general case" decision — I considered adding fastapi/uvicorn to
constraints/shared.txt(the existing mechanism for exactly this: one version, checked everywhere) but ruled it out: that guard is strict — ANY component file re-declaring a version for a constrained package is a violation — so adding fastapi/uvicorn there would flip roughly a dozen currently-correct shipped manifests (autobot-backend,autobot-tts-worker,autobot-slm-backend, ai-stack/npu-worker docker manifests, etc.) into violations simultaneously, forcing all of them to drop their own specifier and reference the constraint instead. That's a real, useful migration, but it's a much larger change than this issue's actual two-file defect, and not something to fold into fixing a stale floor. Wrote a narrow, targeted guard instead, scoped to exactly the two pairs this issue names. What Changed
docs/guides/requirements-local.txt: fastapi>=0.115.0→>=0.141.1, uvicorn[standard]>=0.35.0→>=0.52.4, redis>=7.4.0→>=8.1.0, structlog>=24.0.0→>=26.1.0(all four now match the shipped floor).autobot-npu-worker/resources/windows-npu-worker/requirements.txt: same fastapi/uvicorn fix (AC2's exact ask, matched against its named siblingautobot-infrastructure/autobot-npu-worker/docker/requirements-npu.txt); also brought its redis (>=7.4.0→>=8.1.0) and structlog (>=23.2.0→>=26.1.0) in line with the same sibling — same defect class, same file already open for the AC2 edit, so fixed in scope rather than left half-done or filed separately.repo_tests/requirements_floor_pairs_15661_test.py: compares these two specific file pairs' fastapi/uvicorn version constraints directly (extras stripped —docs/guideslegitimately carriesuvicorn[standard]whereautobot-backend/requirements.txtcarries bareuvicorn; the extras differ on purpose, the floor must not). Verified it actually catches a regression: temporarily reverted the fastapi line and confirmed the test failed, before restoring the fix.Verification
python3 -m pytest repo_tests/requirements_floor_pairs_15661_test.py repo_tests/ansible_requirements_parity_test.py repo_tests/requirements_pin_parity_test.py -q→ 23 passed.python3 scripts/check_constraint_drift.py→OK: no constraint drift. Guarded packages: numpy, openvino(unaffected, as expected — fastapi/uvicorn deliberately not added there, see rationale above).Risks
Low. Pure dependency-manifest text changes plus one new, narrowly-scoped test; no runtime code touched, no existing guard's behavior changed.
