Review comments at @structure/subagents.md:
- Line 397: Update the role-mapping contract to say that sized roles with an
assigned model receive an effort proposal when the selected model has a
non-empty reasoning ladder, regardless of whether the role already sets
model_reasoning_effort; apply the same condition to the delegation default.
Clarify that mapEffortToLevel may return null when the selected model has no
ladder.

Scoped review update at 8b8dfc0: I read the complete eight-file diff against current dev f189b33. The proposal change maps sizing intent onto the selected model's ladder even when the role has no prior effort; explicit empty ladders still produce null, and unsized/unassigned handling is unchanged. The delegation caller already requested this behavior before this change.
The exact-head Catalog async contracts run 38101877920 has now completed successfully: Linux, macOS and Windows each report 14 passed, 0 failed, 0 ignored. This supersedes the historical 13-case run on 84f45ad; the added native contract target arrived with the rebase. These Catalog checks do not by themselves exercise the role proposal HTTP/apply behavior.
I prepared an exact-head isolated worktree to run the three changed role/delegation regression files, but the global serial-workload gate deferred execution before Bun started because another project's build became active. Exit 75 is not a test failure or a pass. Broader Cross-platform CI is still approval-pending, and I have not run root typecheck/full-suite validation or approved this PR. No security/privacy scan or provider/native-account call was started.
Independent local verification update — 2026-10-11
The previously deferred role behavior checks have now executed at unchanged production head 8b8dfc0ad9e16e696f8c81528ce7a44193e4e12a:
bun test --no-env-file --isolate ./tests/routing/codex-role-auto-assign.test.ts ./tests/server/codex-role-auto-assign-routes.test.ts ./tests/codex-integration/injection-model-suggest-routes.test.ts --timeout 10000
Bun1.4.0: 28 passed / 0 failed / 148 assertions across3 files, 2.28 seconds. This covers pinned and unpinned sized roles, explicit empty ladders, defaults, unsized/unassigned cases, API no-write refusals, offered/savable delegation effort and fixture discovery cleanup. Sizing/catalog/runtime discovery used injected synthetic seams; no live model/provider/native process was used. Production files unchanged.
The serial run used fresh private homes, effective CPU75%/memoryHigh1280MiB/max1536MiB/swap0/tasks64/nice10, finite120-second ceiling, with in-unit foreign-build admission. IOWeight20 is configured but no delegated io controller exists, so effective I/O weighting is unverified. Protected user configuration remained unchanged. This completes my previously deferred three-file scope only; root typecheck, full suite, union validation with #6907/#6909 and remaining exact-head CI/review gates are not supplied by these results. No approval, merge or scan.
A role whose file sets no model_reasoning_effort got a model and no effort, so applying the proposal left the effort to Codex's default even though the sizing had chosen one. Roles now always get the sized effort on the picked model's ladder, as the delegation suggestion already did, and the alwaysProposeEffort switch that told the two apart is gone.
…el has a ladder - structure/subagents.md still limited role effort proposals to files that already set model_reasoning_effort

Summary
Auto-assign on the omo tab (
POST /api/codex-agent-roles/auto-assign,ocx agent roles suggest) proposed a reasoning effort only for roles whose file already setmodel_reasoning_effort. A role without one got a model and no effort, so applying the proposal left it on Codex's default effort even though the sizing had picked a level. Every sized role now gets an effort on the picked model's ladder, the same way the Subagents page's delegation suggestion already does.Change
src/codex/role-auto-assign.ts: always maps the sized effort onto the picked model's reasoning ladder; thealwaysProposeEffortswitch that separated the role path from the delegation path is removed.src/server/management/codex-role-auto-assign.ts: drops the switch from its call.ocx agent rolesdetails, the generated skill surface andstructure/subagents.mdsay--applywrites each proposed model and effort.Verification
