Purpose

Review, document and help develop existing or proposed tools for metadata creation, enhancement, remediation, etc. These are tools that exist outside of Islandora - for working on existing Islandora tools for metadata work, see this subgroup.

Outcomes

Three goals have been identified as key to the success of this subgroup:

  1. Document tools and processes used in metadata creation/remediation: Our experience has been that many processes we employ in our metadata work were stumbled upon through serendipity. A knowledge base of metadata practices would enable metadata creators and practitioners to extent and improve their work.

  2. Develop metadata best practices: Nobody does it alone. We hope that through collecting and analyzing the metadata requirements of many Islandora users, we can create a metadata best practices recommendation for new Islandora users.

  3. Tool development: No metadata process is perfect. We have all experienced hangups or challenges in our work. By collecting these areas of friction in standardized use-cases, we hope to be able to communicate our priorities for problems in need of a solution to developers.

Meetings

Meetings are held every 4-5 weeks, schedule depending. Meetings are organized with Doodle polls, and occur over Google Hangouts. To join any meeting just add your email address to the members list below, or contact Matthew Miguez (mmiguez@fsu.edu).
