Test plan

1. Env: QA H2 docker (perc-devctl qa-up) or install with Admin; note TEST_CMS_URL.
2. Login as Admin; open Content Explorer (/cm/app/spa.jsp?entry=explorer or product nav).
3. Confirm shell chrome: Content / View / Help menu bar, Display format selector, tree, detail list, reduced actions, server action toolbar region.
4. View → Search: panel opens with free-text input + Submit; toggle again closes panel.
5. Content → Search: opens the same Search panel; free-text chrome present.
6. Optional: run surface filter:

   cd modules/perc-qa-automation/frontend
   TEST_CMS_URL=... ADMIN_USERNAME=Admin ADMIN_PASSWORD=... \
     npm run test:surface -- --path tests/explorer-shell-chrome.spec.js
   

7. Optional: enter a free-text query and submit (error/empty/results all acceptable on minimal index).

Pass / fail criteria

• Pass: Search panel usable from product Explorer route via View and Content menus; display format + action toolbar chrome visible; no console/UI crash on toggle.
• Fail: Search toggle missing/broken; panel does not mount; display format or toolbar region missing on healthy CMS.

Out of scope

• Saved-search execute catalog depth ([8.2] #2400 slice: Saved searches catalog + execute in Explorer #2409)
• Full Playwright suite
• Multi-RDBMS matrix
