Describe the contribution to the taxonomy

This PR seeks to aggregate (including fixing linting issues) knowledge submissions from the following separate PRs as part of a triager-requested effort to do so as part of a post-event "bounty cleanup". All of the PRs aggregated seek to update Wikipedia knowedge around the topic of "Gibson Les Paul Studio" (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gibson_Les_Paul_Studio&direction=prev&oldid=1133072009).

These include:

Input given at the prompt
Response from the original model
Response from the fine-tuned model

I will detail the prompts submitted (as well as describe the "delta" from what the current models provide) one-by-one below. Specifically, the Llama 2-based models used by instructLab are based upon WIkipedia information as-of October 2020. For this topic (i.e., "Gibson Les Paul Studio"), The informations delta can easily be obtained/distilled using Wikipedia APIs.

Here are the "diffs" or "deltas" which should guide the curation of "updated content" following an aggregation of the Q&A contained within all PRs referenced and their respective qna.yaml files.

Note: Llama 3 will update all Wikipedia knowledge based upon its data "cutoff" dates (i.e., The knowledge cutoff is March 2023 for Llama 3 8B and December 2023 for Llama 3 70B.); so not that these skill submissions will only be meaningful for changes after those dates once our project's models are rebased on llama3.

Contribution checklist

  • The contribution was tested with ilab generate
  • No errors or warnings were produced by ilab generate
  • All commits are signed off (DCO)
  • The qna.yaml file contains at least 5 seed_examples
  • The qna.yaml file was linted and prettified (yaml-validator can do both)
  • An attribution.txt file in the same folder as the qna.yaml file
  • Content does not include PII or otherwise sensitive or confidential information
  • Content does not include anything documented in the project's Avoid these Topics guidelines

  • question: What is a Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar?
    answer: |
The Gibson Les Paul Studio is a solid body electric guitar produced by the Gibson Guitar Corporation since 1983. It is a model of Les Paul with some features omitted to appeal to musicians looking for the tonal qualities of the guitar but with less of an emphasis on cosmetics and to reduce the price of the instrument.

Merlinite answer

Gibson introduced the Les Paul Studio to their lineup in 1983 as part of their efforts to provide a more affordable and streamlined alternative to the classic Les Paul models. The Les Paul Studio guitar was designed with professional musicians in mind, offering a sleeker, more modern design with excellent playability and tone.

  • question: What is the difference between a Les Paul and a Les Paul Studio guitar?
    answer: |
In order to produce a lower-cost Les Paul, features such as body binding,
neck binding, and headstock inlays were not available. Additionally, the
body was ⅛ to ¼ inch thinner than a standard Les Paul.

Wikipedia: Has answer in "History" section...

Additionally, the body was ⅛ to ¼ inch thinner than a standard Les Paul.

NOTE: This recent contribution to Wikipedia may be inaccurate; the merlinite model provides the correct, more accurate answer of a single, differerence of 5mm (or 0.19685 inches)

Wikipedia delta: The eight and quarter inch dimensions exited in the trained model, with a slight "typo" fixed to account for proper character encoding of the "quarter" symbol:

10/2020:
Current: Additionally, the body was ⅛ to ¼ inch thinner than a standard Les Paul.

Merlinite answer: Does not include dimensions from "History" in listed differences under "body shape":

The Les Paul and the Les Paul Studio guitars both belong to the same series, but they have several key differences in terms of design, tonewoods, playability, and price. Here's a more detailed comparison:

  1. Body Shape:: The Les Paul guitar features a classic, thicker body shape, while the Les Paul Studio guitar has a sleeker, thinner body shape that makes it more comfortable to play for extended periods. ...
  2. Tonewoods:: Both guitars feature mahogany bodies, but ...
    ...
  3. Price: The Les Paul Studio guitar is generally more affordable ...

If the Question is asked specifically about "body thickness", you get the following accurate response:

  • How much thicker is the body of a Les Paul Studio to the body of the Les Paul?

The body of a Les Paul Studio guitar is approximately 0.5 inches thinner than the body of the classic Les Paul. This difference in body thickness contributes to the sleeker, more modern design of the Les Paul Studio guitar, which makes it more comfortable to play for extended periods compared to the classic Les Paul. The body thickness of the Les Paul guitar is approximately 2 inches, while the body thickness of the Les Paul Studio guitar is approximately 1.5 inches.

Merlinite answer: Which specifically asks about body thickness:

  • question: What is the difference between a Les Paul and a Les Paul Studio guitar body thickness?

Les Paul and Les Paul Studio guitars have differences in body thickness due to their unique construction materials and designs. Here's a comparison of their thicknesses: 1. Standard Gibson Les Paul: The standard Gibson Les Paul features a solid mahogany body, which results in a thicker overall guitar profile compared to the Les Paul Studio. The standard Les Paul's body thickness typically measures around 2.06 inches (52mm) at its thickest point, which contributes to its classic, robust sound and feel.
2. Les Paul Studio: The Les Paul Studio has a lighter weight mahogany body with a maple cap, which results in a thinner overall guitar profile compared to the standard Gibson Les Paul. The Les Paul Studio's body thickness usually measures around 1.85 inches (47mm) at its thickest point, making it more comfortable for some players, especially those with smaller frames or who prefer lighter guitars.

  • question: What type of wood is the body of Les Paul Studio made from?
    answer:

Initially made of alder from 1983–1985, Gibson moved back to maple top/mahoganybody combination after the alder body proved prone to lacquer problems.

Wikipedia delta:

  • The "delta" since 10/2020: The "Studio Standard" was updated to detail the various woods for this specific model of "Studio" (with wood specific highlighted):

One piece mahogany back, three piece maple or alder top, maple neck, ebony or rosewood fretboard rounded out the complements. This was the Tim Shaw era of pickups.

Merlinite answer:

The body of a Les Paul Studio guitar is typically made from mahogany wood, which is a popular choice for electric guitars due to its rich, warm tone and excellent resonance. Mahogany is also known for its stability, making it less susceptible to temperature and humidity changes, which can help maintain the guitar's tone and playability over time. The top of the guitar, which is usually a veneer of maple wood, features a process called "carving" to create the iconic Les Paul "hump" or "shoulder" shape, further enhancing the guitar's visual appeal and tonal characteristics. Overall, the mahogany body of the Les Paul Studio guitar contributes to its distinctive sound, playability, and long-lasting durability.

Recommend: Improve question to ask about wood from all parts of the guitar and supply the totality of the delta provided in paragraph form.

Who knows about the neck and body woods on these from 1983 till 1985 and from 1986 till 1987? I suppose (without prove) that '83 - '85 were alder body back and 2 piece maple top, maple neck, and '86 - '87 were mahogany back, 3 piece maple top, maple neck.

For example:

  • question: Where did the name Studio come from?

indistinguishable from a Les Paul Standard or Custom in the recording studio,
and that the flashier guitars would be reserved for stage use.

Merlinite answer: improved using an improved question:

  • Where did the name Studio model come from for Les Paul guitars?

The term "Studio" in the Les Paul Studio model refers to its intended use in recording studio environments. This name reflects Gibson's commitment to creating guitars that excel in both live performances and studio recordings. The Les Paul Studio model is designed to offer a balance between versatility, affordability, and exceptional sound quality, making it an ideal choice for musicians who require a reliable and high-performing instrument for their studio work. The Studio moniker emphasizes the guitar's suitability for recording sessions, where precise tone, playability, and durability are essential.

The Studio was designed to attract guitar players who desired traditional Les Paul sound without having to pay for cosmetic features of upscale models.

Wikipedia delta:

  • The "delta" since 10/2020:

    None

Merlinite response:

The Les Paul Studio model was introduced as a more affordable alternative to the traditional Les Paul guitar, which had become known for its premium price point and high-end features. The Les Paul Studio aimed to provide musicians with the iconic Les Paul sound and playability at a more accessible price, making it an attractive option for those who wanted to enjoy the Les Paul experience without breaking the bank.

  • question: When was the Les Paul Studio Vintage Mahogany model renamed?
    answer: >
In 2009, the Vintage Mahogany model was renamed the Les Paul Studio Faded and added worn blue and worn ebony as color choices. In 2013 model year, the Studio Faded was replaced with the "LPJ" model.

Wikipedia:

The Vintage Mahogany model has a carved mahogany body, top and neck, a rosewood fretboard and Alnico V BurstBucker Pro humbucker pickups ... In 2009, the Vintage Mahogany was renamed the Les Paul Studio Faded.
These models (adding worn blue and worn ebony as color choices, as well as "satin" fireburst and yellow) featured the carved maple top of other Les Paul models. In 2013 model year, the Studio Faded was replaced with the "LPJ" model.

  • NOTE:

Wikipedia delta:

  • The "delta" since 10/2020 is an added first paragraph:

The Vintage Mahogany model has a carved mahogany body, top and neck, a rosewood fretboard and Alnico V BurstBucker Pro humbucker pickups, the same humbuckers used in the Les Paul Standard model. The model is available in ''worn brown'' and ''worn cherry'' finishes, featuring a "satin" nitrocellulose finish.

Merlinite responses:

  1. base response:

The Les Paul Studio Vintage Mahogany model, previously known as the Gibson Les Paul Traditional Plus, underwent a name change in 2014. The primary reason for this renaming is to emphasize its dedication to traditional Les Paul design features and materials, particularly the solid mahogany body and neck. Additionally, the name change aims to differentiate it from other Les Paul models, making it easier for potential buyers to identify its unique qualities and characteristics.

  2. Apprently, Wikipedia is WRONG (according to the Gibson site) and the Merlinite model CORRECTLY understands that faded"represents a set of "series" of "faded colors" offered across the Vintage (and perhaps other) models and expresses it:

question: When and why was the Les Paul Studio Vintage Mahogany model renamed Faded?
answer: The Les Paul Studio Vintage Mahogany model was not renamed to Faded. The "Faded" designation is actually part of the Gibson Faded series, which is a separate line of guitars from the Les Paul Studio Vintage Mahogany model. The Gibson Faded series is characterized by its distressed, aged appearance, which adds to its unique visual appeal. The "Faded" name reflects this visual aesthetic, making it clear that these guitars have undergone a specific aging process to achieve their distinctive appearance.

Conclusion

  • The base model is not making proper associations to "name change".. it is responding based upon "model name" changes (what is intended) vs. the Studio "brand name"

- question: What year was the Studio Custom produced?
answer: The Studio Custom was produced in 1983–1985

Wikipedia:

The Studio Custom was produced in 1983–1985. It was introduced before the design of the Studio was finalized, and mostly had the features of a Standard with a variety of features mixed in from other models.

Wikipedia delta:

  • The "delta" since 10/2020:

    None

Merlinite responses:

  1. Note: incorrect response because context was not etablished in the question:

The Studio Custom guitar model was first introduced in 1954 by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, a renowned American manufacturer of stringed instruments and amplifiers. The Studio Custom, initially known as the Fender Custom, was part of the company's lineup of high-end instruments ...

  1. with a revised prompt:
question: What years were the Les Paul Studio Custom models produced?

we get the base model arguing that none exists (and it looks it is from a chatbot response!):

  • I apologize for any confusion earlier. Based on my knowledge up to the last update, there is no official Gibson guitar model named "Studio Custom." The Gibson Les Paul Studio has been produced since 1992, with various iterations and modifications over the years. It is a popular choice for musicians seeking an affordable, high-quality Les Paul guitar with a sleek design and versatile sound. If you're interested in learning more about the history of Gibson Les Paul guitars, exploring their current offerings, or discussing any other related topics, feel free to ask! I'm here to help.

Conclusion

  • Indeed, it appears "Studio Customs" were produced (years apart from Wikipedia cannot be confirmed); however, the base model seems to argue that no "Studio Custom" exists...
  • For references see: https://gibsongazette.azurewebsites.net/gear/gibson-les-paul-models-everything-you-need-to-know/
    • The artisans at Gibson Custom create their one-of-a-kind guitars in a dedicated craftory in Nashville, Tennessee. Any guitar crafted in the Gibson Custom Shop represents the pinnacle of Gibson craftsmanship and excellence, and Gibson Custom’s recreations of historic models represent a love-letter to the golden era.

    • Presenting a cross-section of the Les Paul’s evolution over the decades, the Gibson Custom team has recreated various Les Paul models, including Standards, Specials, Juniors, and the Les Paul Custom. Regardless of the model, each Gibson Custom Les Paul recaptures a part of history.

  • See: https://www.joness.com/gr300/Gibson_Les_Paul_LPK-1_Roland_Ready_Vintage_Controller.htm
    • which describes the Les Paul "Studio Custom" in great detail with photographs.

Recommend we improve both parts of the prompt to provide an answer directly including the Wiki paragraph from the section shown above and that does not argue (hopefully overrides due to new weights) that the model even exists.
- Note: even after "retraining", the model still argues that the model even existed...

Merlinite responses:

  1. It appears the base response is correct; however, it appears to have been provided by a guitar chatbot:

Vintage Mahogany/Faded is a term often used to describe a specific finish on some Gibson guitars, including Les Paul models. This finish features a distressed appearance, as if the guitar has aged gracefully over time, with natural wear and tear adding character to the instrument's visual appeal. The "Vintage Mahogany/Faded" finish is typically applied to Gibson guitars using a process that involves hand-sanding and hand-rubbing the instrument to create a worn-in appearance. This finish is popular among musicians who appreciate the classic, timeless look of vintage instruments and want to add a touch of history to their modern guitars. If you have any questions about Gibson guitars, their finishes, or any other related topics, feel free to ask! I'm here to help.

question: What colors are available for the Gibson Les Paul Studio guitars?

Merlinite responses:

  1. The base model response is quite thorough and the prompt provided does not, IMO, add any meaningful value (and was taken from a summary side-box)

Gibson Les Paul Studio guitars are offered in various attractive colors to suit different preferences and styles. The color options for the Gibson Les Paul
    Studio guitars include:

    1. Classic Black: A timeless and versatile option that complements any musical genre or performance setting.
    2. Heritage Cherry Sunburst: A classic, rich finish that adds warmth and depth to the guitar's appearance, reminiscent of the iconic Les Paul Standard.
    3. Vintage Sunburst: A popular choice among musicians, this finish features a blend of dark and light shades, evoking the nostalgia of classic guitar designs.
    4. Wine Red: A bold and striking color that stands out on stage, offering a unique aesthetic for guitarists who prefer a more vibrant look.
    5. Gold Top: A luxurious and eye-catching finish that adds a touch of elegance to the guitar, perfect for musicians who want to make a statement on stage.
    6. Silverburst: A modern take on the traditional sunburst finish, this silver-blue hue provides a fresh and distinctive appearance for the Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar.
    7. Antique White: A clean and minimalist finish that exudes sophistication, making it an ideal choice for musicians who prefer a more understated look.
    8. Ebony: A deep, rich, and elegant finish that adds a touch of class to the guitar, perfect for musicians who appreciate darker, more dramatic aesthetics.
    9. Tobacco Burst: A warm, vintage-inspired finish that adds depth and character to the guitar, making it an excellent choice for musicians who value authenticity and tradition.
    10. Honeyburst: A light, golden-yellow finish that adds a touch of warmth and brightness to the guitar, making it a great option for musicians who prefer a more cheerful appearance.
These color options cater to a wide range of musical
tastes and personal styles, allowing guitarists to
choose a Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar that best
      reflects their unique identity.

Conclusion

  • Do not include as the existing base model's answer is much more comprehensive and valuable.

question: What are the different models of the Gibson Less Paul Studio Guitars?

Merlinite responses:
1. The base model answer (shown below) is by far better. In fact, the provided answer conflates models with series (colors, editions, etc.) whereas a more complete response is provided which goes well beyond the (inaccurate) Wikipedia entry:

Gibson Les Paul Studio guitars are available in several different models, each offering unique features and specifications tailored to various playing styles and preferences. Here's an overview of some popular Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar models:
1. Gibson Les Paul Studio: This is the base model of the Les Paul Studio series, featuring a mahogany body with a slim taper neck profile, two open-coil humbucker pickups, and a 22-fret neck-through-body design. The Gibson Les Paul Studio is a versatile and affordable option for guitarists looking for a classic Les Paul sound and feel.
2. Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe: This model builds upon the base Les Paul Studio model by adding additional features such as a maple top, a mahogany body, and a slim taper neck profile. The Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe also includes two open-coil humbucker pickups, a 22-fret neck-through-body design, and a three-way pickup selector switch for added versatility.
3. Gibson Les Paul Studio T: This model features a mahogany body with a slim taper neck profile, two open-coil humbucker pickups, and a 22-fret neck-through-body design. The Gibson Les Paul Studio T is a lightweight and affordable option for guitarists looking for a classic Les Paul sound and feel with a modern twist.
4. Gibson Les Paul Studio Traditional: This model is inspired by the classic Les Paul designs of the past, featuring a mahogany body with a slim taper neck profile, two open-coil humbucker pickups, and a 22-fret neck-through-body design. The Gibson Les Paul Studio Traditional is a nostalgic and authentic option for guitarists who appreciate traditional Les Paul aesthetics and sound.
5. Gibson Les Paul Studio Custom: This model is designed for guitarists who demand the highest level of performance and craftsmanship. The Gibson Les Paul Studio Custom features a mahogany body with a maple top, a slim taper neck profile, two open-coil humbucker pickups, and a 22-fret neck-through-body design. etc., etc.
6. ...

question: What colors did the Gen Series come in?

Wikipedia:

N/A

Wikipedia delta:

  • The "delta" since 10/2020:

    None

Merlinite responses:

  1. Given the unaltered question (without proper context) the response seems to talk about a "device" and, given the colors referenced, may not be about a Gibson guitar at all.

The Gen Series was available in six vibrant colors: Black, White, Red, Blue, Green, and Purple. This diverse color palette allowed users to choose a model that best fit their personal style or preferences. The Gen Series, with its sleek design and compact form factor, quickly gained popularity among consumers looking for a versatile, high-quality device.
It's important to note that product availability, including color options, can change over time due to various factors such as market demand, production capabilities, or business strategies. If you're interested in purchasing a Gen Series device, I recommend checking with the manufacturer or authorized retailers for the most up-to-date information on color options and availability.

    1. An improved prompt (with typo. fixed) produced an unexpected response:

I apologize for the confusion, but there is no "Les Paul Studio Gem Series" from Gibson USA. The Les Paul Studio series is a well-known and popular line of guitars from Gibson USA, which comes in various attractive color options, as previously mentioned. If you have any other questions about Gibson guitars or their color options, please feel free to ask!

question: How long has Gibson USA been manufacturing Gibson Les Paul Studio guitars?

Wikipedia:

1983-present

  • Notes:
    • The answer was taken from the "summary" box and has no context.

Wikipedia delta:

  • The "delta" since 10/2020:

    None

Merlinite responses:

  1. The base model response seems to inaccurately provide a start year that does not match the 1983 consensus (not just Wikipedia, but supported by other cerdible sources):

Gibson USA has been manufacturing Gibson Les Paul Studio guitars for several decades, with the first models being introduced in the 1970s. The Les Paul Studio series was designed to offer guitarists a more affordable and accessible alternative to the higher-end Les Paul Standard models, while still providing the iconic sound and feel that Gibson is known for.
    etc. etc.

Conclusion

  • Improve the response/answer to provide better context.

@mrutkows can you squash this down to one commit, with the co-authored-by for each of the PRs you combined? if you need a template #1159 is what we are defaulting to for the commit messages.

After that we can run the precheck and generate, and ideally get this in to the next triage-approved run.
