Summary

  • Add design packet 0021-continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance for Continuum YOLO, runtime-neutral Edict Core, runtime target profiles, FIDLAR rejection, and SHA-lock assurance.
  • Link the packet from docs/design/README.md and add BEARING.md §13 so normal context recovery sees the new runtime-neutral boundary.
  • Patch audited JavaScript transitive dependency resolution by overriding @babel/core to 7.29.7 and markdown-it to 14.2.0.

Why

The new platform decision clarifies that Continuum standardizes lawful operation bundles, not storage. Edict Core stays deterministic and runtime-neutral; Echo DPO/Span IR, git-warp, KV, event-log, and future storage models belong behind runtime target profiles rather than in Wesley core.

During validation, the strict preflight audit surfaced current @babel/core <=7.29.0 and markdown-it <=14.1.1 advisories, so this PR also updates the root pnpm overrides and lockfile to keep the release gate green.

Validation

  • pnpm run preflight
  • pnpm audit --prod=false --json
  • git diff --check
  • pnpm --filter wesley-website build
  • pre-push hook: Rust product preflight and JavaScript package preflight

Note: the website build still reports the existing PGlite direct-eval and chunk-size warnings.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation

    • Added comprehensive design documentation covering runtime-neutral architecture, determinism posture, and assurance mechanisms.
    • Updated design documentation index and timeline with new specifications.
    • Reorganized documentation structure with enhanced narrative flow.
  • Tests

    • Added automated validation tests for documentation structure integrity.
  • Chores

    • Updated linting and dependency configuration rules.

🔍 The Case of Pull Request #610

Plain-English Readout

  • Holmes (evidence investigation): Holmes says this change looks ready to ship.
  • Watson (independent verification): Watson found verification concerns. Most important concern: No evidence citations were available for trust analysis.
  • Moriarty (trend forecast): Moriarty does not have enough historical data yet to forecast readiness.

Suggested next actions

  1. Resolve Watson’s verification concerns before trusting the Holmes verdict as final.
📚 Glossary (what the Holmes terms mean)
  • HOLMES: Wesley’s main evidence investigation. It decides whether the cited proof is strong enough to justify shipping this commit.
  • WATSON: An independent verification pass. It checks Holmes’s citations and score math instead of trusting them blindly.
  • MORIARTY: A readiness forecast over time. It is advisory trend analysis, not the release gate itself.
  • Schema coverage score (SCS): How much of the schema has direct supporting evidence across generated artifacts and cited proof.
  • Test confidence index (TCI): How much test evidence exists for constraints, policies, relationships, and operations.
  • Migration risk index (MRI): How risky the schema change is to roll out. Lower is better.
  • Evidence trust: Whether the report is backed by exact citations, whole-file citations, or coarse references. Weak trust means the claim may be directionally right but not specific enough to trust blindly.
  • Citation quality: A count of exact line-span citations versus whole-file or coarse references.
  • ELEMENTARY: Ready to ship based on the current evidence.
  • REQUIRES INVESTIGATION: More work or review is needed before shipping.
  • YOU SHALL NOT PASS: Do not ship this change in its current state.

@codex Code Lawyer self-audit found one structural issue while auditing PR #610.

ID Severity Source File Lines Issue Status
1 P3 Self docs/BEARING.md L378-L455 Active-gravity packet sections were nested under ## Tensions, so §12/§13 rendered under the wrong parent heading. Red/green local fix in progress

Summary

  • Moved BEARING §12 and §13 back above ## Tensions, so the Holmes assurance and Continuum runtime-neutral packets render under the Active Gravity section instead of as children of Tensions. docs/BEARING.mdL378-L429
  • Added a Bats regression witness that asserts §12 and §13 both appear before the ## Tensions heading. test/domain-empty-boundary.batsL44-L56
  • Committed the fix on the current branch: b572ab9 fix(docs): keep active gravity packets above tensions.
  • Created a follow-up PR with the requested changes.

Testing

  • ✅ awk '\n /^### 12\\. Holmes \weslaw` Assurance Planning$/ { section12 = NR }\n /^### 13\. Continuum YOLO Runtime-Neutral Edict$/ { section13 = NR }\n /^## Tensions$/ { tensions = NR }\n END {\n if (!(section12 && section13 && tensions && section12 < tensions && section13 < tensions)) {\n exit 1\n }\n }\n ' docs/BEARING.md`
  • ✅ git diff --check
  • ⚠️ pnpm exec bats test/domain-empty-boundary.bats — could not run because bats is not installed in this environment.
  • ⚠️ pnpm run preflight — Rust checks progressed, but preflight failed when pnpm audit --prod=false --json received 403 Forbidden from the npm audit endpoint.

@codex Strict self-review findings for PR #610.

ID Severity File Lines Infraction Evidence Recommended mitigation prompt
SCR-001 P3 docs/design/0021-continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance/continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance.md 1-15 YAML frontmatter is not the first block. The new packet starts with SPDX/copyright HTML comments before ---; npx markdownlint-cli reports MD041 at line 4 plus MD007/MD032 against the frontmatter-owned list because the frontmatter is not recognized. Other design packets and the template begin with ---. Move the SPDX/copyright comments below the YAML frontmatter, or encode required legal metadata in a frontmatter-compatible field, so the file begins with ---; rerun docs checks and markdownlint.
SCR-002 P4 docs/design/0021-continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance/continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance.md 25, 47, 59, 61, 75, 79, 85, 87, 96, 99, 101, 111, ... New Markdown prose is pervasively over line-length style limits. npx markdownlint-cli reports MD013 throughout the added packet, including line 25 at 474 chars, line 47 at 466 chars, and line 59 at 334 chars. This makes future review diffs noisy and weakens the repository's documentation style discipline. Wrap prose and tables in packet 0021 to the repository's Markdown line-length style, except code fences and unavoidable literals; rerun markdownlint and docs checks.
SCR-003 P4 docs/design/0021-continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance/continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance.md 9, 19-21 The packet is merge-bound but still records its linked issue as TBD. Frontmatter says issue: "TBD" and the Linked Issue section says Issue: TBD before implementation PR. The project method treats GitHub Issues as the active work tracker, so the packet should either link a real issue or explicitly state that this PR is design-seeding-only and issue creation is deferred. Create/link the governing GitHub issue and replace both TBD references, or revise the packet to explicitly document why this design PR is allowed to merge before an issue exists.

Not counted against this branch: pre-existing long-line markdownlint failures in docs/design/README.md outside the new 0021 entry.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Adds design document 0021 (1,248 lines) specifying Continuum runtime-neutrality, Edict Core determinism, SHA-lock assurance, FIDLAR prohibition, and participant APIs. Updates docs/BEARING.md with Phase 7 timeline, a new section 13, and relocated Tensions. Registers the packet in the design README, adds a Bats ordering test, disables MD013 lint rule, and pins two pnpm.overrides versions.

🐰 A new design packet hops into view,
Continuum YOLO, runtime-neutral and true!
Edict Core stands pure, no storage inside,
SHA-lock keeps the evidence locked up with pride.
Tensions now follow where sections align —
The rabbit writes docs, and the tests pass just fine! ✨

@codex Strict self-review follow-up findings for PR #610.

Scope: reviewed origin/main...HEAD after a clean-worktree gate and git fetch origin. The repository now intentionally disables markdownlint MD013, so long Markdown lines, wide tables, and long links are not counted as findings here.

ID Severity Surface Lines / Coordinates Infraction Evidence Recommended mitigation prompt
SCR-004 P4 docs/design/0021-continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance/continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance.md 1-23, 99-112, 199-212, 446-451, 824-829, 962-968, 1096-1101 New packet is not repository-Prettier-clean. This is not a line-length complaint; it is canonical formatter drift in YAML frontmatter, table alignment, blank-line spacing after the markdownlint directive, and TypeScript code-fence trailing commas. pnpm exec prettier --check docs/design/0021-continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance/continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance.md exits 1. Formatter diff changes frontmatter quoting, aligns Markdown tables, inserts a blank after the MD025 directive, and removes trailing commas from the TypeScript sample at lines 824-829. Run pnpm exec prettier --write docs/design/0021-continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance/continuum-yolo-runtime-neutral-edict-sha-lock-assurance.md with MD013 still disabled; inspect that tables/links remain acceptable; rerun Prettier check, markdownlint, docs-check, and preflight.
SCR-005 P4 GitHub issue #611 / design packet cycle process docs/design/TEMPLATE.md lines 42-49; issue #611 labels Linked issue exists, but the active design packet's issue tracker state does not satisfy the repo's cycle-start contract. Issue #611 lacks work-in-progress and is still labeled lane:cool-ideas, which says exploratory/no commitment while PR #610 is an active branch linked from the packet. docs/design/TEMPLATE.md line 47 says the GitHub issue should be created and labeled work-in-progress. gh issue view 611 --json labels shows lane:cool-ideas and no work-in-progress. Add work-in-progress to #611 and move it out of lane:cool-ideas if this PR is the active cycle, or explicitly document that #611 is only a future implementation tracker and create/link the active cycle issue for packet 0021.

Validation observed during review:

pnpm audit --prod=false --json Zero advisories.
bats -t test/domain-empty-boundary.bats Passed.
cargo xtask docs-check Passed.
GitHub PR checks Green.

Not counted against this branch: docs/BEARING.md is not Prettier-clean on origin/main already, and the formatter warning there is from an existing HIMP table outside this branch's changed section.

Resolved the two strict self-review follow-up findings from #610 (comment).

ID Outcome
SCR-004 Fixed in d8e49090 by running repository Prettier on packet 0021. The MD025 exception is now a block disable/enable so Prettier's blank-line normalization does not break markdownlint. MD013 remains disabled by policy.
SCR-005 Fixed on issue #611 by adding work-in-progress and lane:asap, and removing lane:cool-ideas.
