Summary
Some of the types Cedar generates and exports are made more precise. Code written by Cedar's generators and setup commands relies on them to type-check under TypeScript's
strictmode, which will be the default in the futureWhat changed
@cedarjs/internalcodegen:QueryResolversandMutationResolversfields are required properties (avoidOptionals.query/mutation;avoidOptionals.resolversdoesn't cover root types). Service functions typed asQueryResolvers['posts']aren't possiblyundefinedwhen service tests call them.@cedarjs/internalcodegen: on the api side,JSON/JSONObjectinputs arePrisma.InputJsonValue/Prisma.InputJsonObject, so they can be passed straight to Prisma. The web side is unchanged.@cedarjs/auth: newLoggedInUsertype, andCurrentUserisLoggedInUser | null.LoggedInUseris the usergetCurrentUserreturns when someone is logged in.CurrentUsernow matches whatgetCurrentUseranduseAuth().currentUseractually hold. Thenull | CurrentUserunions in@cedarjs/authand the auth providers becomeCurrentUser. The built-inuseCurrentUserhook is typedPromise<CurrentUser>, since it returnsnullwhen nobody is logged in (its runtime behavior is unchanged).@cedarjs/internal: the generatedall-currentUser.d.tsextendsLoggedInUserwithInferredLoggedInUser, which isNonNullable<...>ofgetCurrentUser's return type. WithstrictNullChecks, an interface can't extend a type that includesnull(TS2312), so the generated file doesn't compile in strict apps without this.context.currentUseris typedLoggedInUser-shaped,nullorundefined: GraphQL leaves it unset when nobody is logged in, and functions wrapped inuseRequireAuthset it to whatevergetCurrentUserreturned, includingnull.@cedarjs/internal: the stub@storybook/reacttypes (used when Storybook isn't installed) typerender's parameters, so generated stories don't hitnoImplicitAny.@cedarjs/uploads:tokenSecretacceptsstring | undefined(the plugin already throws a configuration error when it's missing), andcreateUploadAuthenticator'sgetCurrentUsertakesdecoded: Decoded, matching appgetCurrentUserfunctions.@cedarjs/api:MemcachedClientacceptsservers: string | undefined, as memjs does.docs/docs/typescript/generated-types.mddescribesCurrentUserandLoggedInUser..changesets/release_notes_v8.md: new "More precise generated types" section, with upgrade steps.Breaking changes
CurrentUserincludesnull. In strict apps, code that usesCurrentUserfor a user known to be logged in needsLoggedInUser. Apps without strict mode see no difference, since TypeScript ignoresnullthere.CurrentUseris a type alias, sodeclare module '@cedarjs/auth' { interface CurrentUser ... }is a type error. ExtendLoggedInUserinstead. Cedar's generated types already do.context.currentUsercan benull. In strict apps, code that narrows it with!== undefinedneeds a truthiness check instead.QueryResolvers/MutationResolversfields: an object typed as a wholeQueryResolvershas to implement every field.
