FluentCleaner 26.09.01 / 1.18 (Classic)
FluentCleaner update - less clutter, sharper behavior
Tip
Meet NixThis
What uBlock does for websites, but for Windows itself.
Pick a clear filter or point directly at an annoying Windows element. NixThis finds the setting behind it and makes it disappear.
The last days were not about piling on features at any cost. I experimented with a built-in Mini mode for FluentCleaner Classic in v1.17, but ultimately pulled it before release to keep Classic small, predictable, and easy to maintain. The idea is not dead, though, it may return later as an external add-on or plugin if I decide to make FluentCleaner more extensible
Instead, FluentCleaner Classic (only) gained something that fits its lightweight nature much better: proper command-line automation. It can now analyze or clean the saved selection silently, target individual cleaner categories, and slot neatly into batch files, PowerShell scripts, or other automation workflows.
So Mini is out for now, but Classic has become considerably more scriptable without becoming more complicated. Less interface bolted on, more power underneath.
- [Added] [Classic] Introduced command-line automation for scripts, batch files, PowerShell, and third-party tools. Classic can now analyze or clean the saved selection silently, optionally target a specific cleaner category, and shut down the PC after cleaning #52
- [Added] [Classic] Added command-line documentation and ready-to-copy examples under Options > Handoff / CLI
- [Changed] [Classic] Development of the built-in Mini mode has been paused for now. It may return later as a separate add-on or as part of a future plugin system.
- [Improved] [Classic] Deleting a cookie no longer throws the user back to the beginning of the list. FluentCleaner still refreshes the real browser databases, but now keeps the working position and selects the nearest remaining entry #185
- [Added] [Classic] Added Select all to the context menus of both Cookie Manager lists. Active search filters are respected, so only currently visible cookies are selected #185
- [Fixed] [Classic, Modern] FluentCleaner now correctly remembers an intentionally empty cleaner selection. Previously, selecting zero items was mistaken for a fresh installation and the default entries returned after restarting #176
- [Fixed] [Classic, Modern] Silent cleaning and command-line operations now also respect an intentionally empty cleaner selection instead of silently falling back to database Defaults
- [Fixed] [Classic, Modern] Improved DetectFile handling for 32-bit applications. Cleaner entries using %ProgramFiles% now correctly detect installations in both Program Files and Program Files (x86), with or without Wildcards #184
- [Improved] [Classic] The Entry column in the analysis results now automatically uses the available space, while the file, registry, and size columns remain compact and stable
- [Improved] [Classic] CLI runs return automation-friendly exit codes and write detailed results to %AppData%\FluentCleaner\auto.log
- [Added] [Classic] Azerbaijani localization is now available, bringing the Classic interface to another language. Thanks to @jamalkamaladdin for the contribution in #181
- [Updated] [Classic] Added localized Select all text for the Cookie Manager and cleaned up the English and German localization structure for easier maintenance
- [Updated] [Classic] Refreshed the Brazilian Portuguese and French localizations with the latest interface strings and translation improvements.

FluentCleaner Classic 1.17
FluentCleaner Classic goes Mini
FluentCleaner Classic just learned how to stay out of the way. The new Mini mode turns the full cleaner into a compact desktop companion: analyze, review, and clean whenever needed without keeping the complete interface open. It is still the same FluentCleaner underneath, using the same databases, selections, exclusions, cookie protection, and cleaning engine.
This feature is currently available in FluentCleaner Classic only.
- [Added] [Classic] Mini mode with quick access to Analyze, Review, and Clean
- [Added] [Classic] Option to launch FluentCleaner directly in Mini mode in Settings > Basic Settings
- [Added] [Classic] Always-on-top option and automatic Mini window-position saving
- [Added] [Classic] /MINI and /FULL command-line switches for overriding the saved startup mode
- [Improved] [Classic] Seamless switching between Mini mode and the full FluentCleaner interface
- [Improved] [Classic] The Settings page now scrolls correctly on smaller window sizes, keeping all options accessible
- [Added] [Classic] Polish localization
- [Updated] [Classic] German, English, Bulgarian, French, and Simplified Chinese localization files

FluentCleaner Classic 1.16
What began as a small playground around my CrapCheckThis app has now found its way into FluentCleaner Classic. In practical terms, you can use the Inspector to assemble your own set of cleaner signatures, export it as a Handoff file, and temporarily test it through Options > Handoff API. FluentCleaner verifies every entry against your local databases and analyzes the selection without replacing your permanently saved Cleaner configuration.
This feature is currently available in FluentCleaner Classic only.
Try it now: Open FluentCleaner Inspector
- [Added] [Classic] Introduced the FluentCleaner Handoff API for passing cleaner selections from external tools into FluentCleaner
- [Added] [Classic] Added a dedicated Handoff API page under Settings with a direct link to the FluentCleaner Inspector, file import, a short explanation, and command-line integration details
- [Added] [Classic] Inspector selections can now be exported as JSON and analyzed directly in FluentCleaner Classic
- [Improved] [Classic] Imported selections are verified against the locally installed cleaner databases before analysis. Nothing is cleaned automatically, and the saved Cleaner selection remains unchanged
- [Improved] [Classic] Updated the online update mechanism: “Check for updates” now opens the FluentCleaner Inspector with the installed edition and version, allowing it to report the appropriate update status
- [Improved] [Classic] Added a sortable Size column to the result details view, showing the size of every individual file without an additional disk scan (Discussion #164)

Cookie Manager arrives in Classic
You have been asking for this one for a very long time and believe me, I have been working on it for just as long. Cookies look simple until modern browsers hide them inside shared SQLite databases and expect cleaners to perform surgery instead of deletion.
After a lot of development, testing, and a few moments of questioning the entire concept of browser cookies, the new Cookie Manager is finally ready for its first public test in FluentCleaner Classic
Whats new in FluentCleaner Classic v1.14?
- [Added] Cookie Manager preview under Options > Cookies
- [Added] Detect, search and protect cookies for selected websites
- [Added] Cookie Manager Support for Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Brave, Chromium, Vivaldi, Opera and Firefox profiles
- [Added] Protected domains and their subdomains are preserved during browser-cookie cleaning
- [Improved] Cookie databases are now cleaned selectively whenever a keep-list exists
- [Improved] Locked or unsupported cookie databases are safely skipped instead of being deleted
- [Improved] Cookie protection is stored in settings.json and works in portable mode
- Updated Lithuanian translation #150
- Updated Simplified Chinese #149
- Updated Bulgarian localization #148
Whats new in FluentCleaner Modern v26.08.02 (Modern maintenance update)
- While the new Cookie Manager begins testing exclusively in Classic, the Modern edition receives a smaller maintenance pass focused on reliability, exclusions, and general polish

FluentCleaner Classic has officially become just as popular as the WinUI 3 edition and honestly, I understand why. I probably should not admit this, but Classic has also become my primary edition. With every release it gets safer, sharper, and more professional while stubbornly refusing to become heavy or complicated
You can still cast your vote here. There is no winner to crown. I am simply curious to see how preferences shift over time: fast and polished on the modern Windows stack, or fast and uncomplicated using the runtime Windows already provides
Whats new in v1.13?
- [Improved] Further optimized FluentCleaner Classic’s internal core, making the app faster to start and more responsive during everyday use
- [Added] If something is not working, you can now create a troubleshooting report from the About page. The TXT file is saved locally, can be reviewed before sharing, and is never sent automatically. You may attach it manually to a GitHub issue if needed.
- [Added] Japanese, Italian, and Russian localizations
- [Updated] Bulgarian, English and German localizations with the latest interface strings
- [Added] Classic only: FluentCleaner Classic now offers an optional Supporter Edition acknowledgement. As a small thank-you, anyone who chooses to support development with an amount of their choice can add an optional name or organization under Options > About. No features are locked or changed.

Classic refined it. Modern inherited it
The last releases focused heavily on polishing FluentCleaner Classic and strengthening its cleaning engine. After proving these improvements in daily use, the most important changes have now made their way into the Modern edition as well.
Both editions now benefit from faster excluded-path handling, complete registry exclusions, safer cleaning behavior, and the expanded database with 4,075 cleaning entries
Whats new in v1.12?
FluentCleaner Modern
- [Added] Support for
REGexclusions from Winapp databases and global settings - [Improved] Protected registry branches remain intact even when a parent key is cleaned
- [Improved] Recursive scans now skip fully excluded directory trees instead of scanning and filtering them afterward
- [Improved] Added a registry exclusion example to the global exclusions settings

Winapp2.inidatabase received a massive update, growing from 3,721 to 4,075 cleaning entries- Added 367 new definitions and removed or replaced 13 obsolete entries
- New and expanded coverage includes Anthropic Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Brave Origin, Adobe tools, Nexus Mods App, Outer Wilds Mod Manager, Synergy, and more
- FluentCleaner maintains its own curated Winapp2 edition with additional app-specific entries, safer defaults, warnings, and tested rule improvements
- Following additional compatibility testing, this curated database is now shipped as the default built-in cleaning database
Credits to the Winapp2 community for the extensive upstream work
FluentCleaner Classic
- [Improved] Recursive scans now skip fully excluded directory trees instead of scanning and filtering them afterward, making analysis noticeably faster when large folders are excluded (#130)

- [Info] Many sections also apply to the Modern edition, as both versions share the same
FluentCleaner.Coreparser, cleaning engine, Winapp2 databases, and exclusion logic - [Added] Optional local supporter recognition. Supporters can add a name or alias and appear as a Classic Supporter in the About page. The status is stored locally in

FluentCleaner Classic keeps growing in popularity and the community poll shows that it has become a genuine head-to-head race. So, for the second release in a row, I've focused on Classic: polishing its core, tightening the experience, and making the little edition better than ever

FluentCleaner Classic is settling into its final form. This release polishes the WinForms interface, expands the cleaning engine with registry exclusions and new targeted cleaners, strengthens database safety, and improves runtime JSON localization, all while keeping the tiny .NET Framework 4.8 footprint and reducing duplicate code under the hood
💬 Classic or Modern? Vote here — curious which one people actually end up using day to day.

- [Added] [Winapp2.ini] Cleaning support for Microsoft VS Code, Microsoft VS Code Logs, and Microsoft VS Code File History

FluentCleaner - Classic & Modern Update
Caution
⚠️ Avoid fluentcleaner[.]org
fluentcleaner[.]org is NOT an official FluentCleaner website and is not operated, maintained, or endorsed by me.
I strongly recommend not downloading or installing anything from that site.
This isn't hypothetical. MakeUseOf recently recommended FluentCleaner while directing readers to fluentcleaner[.]org instead of the official project. I created an account specifically to warn them in the comments that I am the developer and that the linked site is not mine. That comment was later removed.
That's the part I find especially frustrating: the official repository has a prominent warning about fake FluentCleaner websites. Verifying the source would have taken less time than writing the recommendation.
There is only ONE official source for FluentCleaner:
https://github.com/builtbybel/FluentCleaner
If another website claims to provide an "official" FluentCleaner download, installer, build, or mirror, it isn't coming from me.
We keep telling users to be careful what they download. That's difficult to take seriously when tech publications don't verify the software sources they recommend.
Credit where credit is due: Deskmodder.de is one of the few tech blogs I've seen actually address this problem and warn readers about increasingly aggressive fake software websites distributing malware.
Thank you for taking the issue seriously:
