based on DRAFT PR #30:

  • changes from @timojaask fork, with some additional cleanup & documentation (resolves Updates from @timojaask fork #22)
  • update-notifier@3 update in package dependencies
  • new exampleReactNativeVersion option
  • some other updates & fixes
