Customization

Once you've built a chart, you may want to customize it a little further. In this page, we'll explain how you can change the title of the axes, the format of the values and the colors of the chart.

These customizations are for charts only, not maps.

Axis titles

When your chart is displayed outside of the widget-editor, the axes have titles that correspond to the columns you've used for each of them.

If you wish to have different titles, you can do so by filling in the fields “Category” and “Value” that are in the “Description and labels” accordion of the “General” tab.

For the “Columns”, “Line” and “Scatter” charts, the “Category” field corresponds to the X axis, while for the “Bars”, it corresponds to the Y axis. The inverse is also true: for the “Columns”, “Line” and “Scatter” charts, the “Value” field corresponds to the Y axis, while for the “Bars” charts, it corresponds to the X one.

For the “Pie” charts, only the “Value” field is represented in the final visualization.

Value format

Sometimes, you may wish to display the values of a chart differently. For example, you want to display them in a currency of a particular region (e.g. UK) or you need to multiply them by 100 because they are a percent.

If that is your case, you can change the format of the values by selecting an option of the “Value format” dropdown located in the “Description and labels” accordion of the “General” tab.

In addition to the predefined formats, you are also able to create your own format, using the d3-format specification, though this requires more technical knowledge.

Color scheme

If you're looking at using a different color scheme or switch one color for another, select the “Visual style” tab of the settings panel. There, and if the app that hosts the widget-editor permits it, you will find a selection of curated color schemes.

You can also create your own scheme by clicking the “Create custom scheme” button. This will duplicate the present one, but will let you change any of the colors. You can either enter an hexadecimal value or click the little color swatch to open a color picker.
