📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Pets now float and can navigate through water while moving to destinations, helping them continue fetches, greetings, play and social interactions.
    • Water escape no longer changes a pet’s velocity or steers it toward an exit; pets retain their current movement while safe routes are handled.
    • Greeting, play, social and toy interactions pause while a pet needs to escape water, then can resume once it is safe.
    • Fetch followers can continue accompanying a carrier through water and return to their own owner after delivery.

Walkthrough

Water escape now selects safe nearby ground without steering pets directly. PetMotion wraps navigation calls with temporary native water-malus adjustment. Water-navigation goals and activity navigation checks have changed, and fetch followers retain their shared fetch while the carrier travels through water.

WaterEscape no longer applies velocity or filters exits by reachability. PetMotion temporarily sets the native WATER malus to zero for navigation and restores it afterwards. Mob configuration enables floating.

The water goal routes eligible pets to safe remembered ground or a selected exit. Water-goal tracking and former retry, stuck-state, and action-coordination logic are removed.
Water-aware activity goals

Greeting, play, social, and toy goals now check whether water escape is needed before activation.
Pet activity movement integrations
src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/companionpets/runtime/PetFetchActions.java, PetGreetings.java, PetMoments.java, PetRoaming.java, PetSocial.java, PetTicker.java, PetToyAnticipation.java, related tests
These pet activities use PetMotion for path lookup or movement instead of calling the mob pathfinder directly.
Fetch movement through water
src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/companionpets/runtime/PetFetchActions.java, src/test/java/net/tfminecraft/companionpets/runtime/PetFetchActionsCoverageTest.java, PetFetchWorkflowTest.java
Fetch followers can remain with the carrier during water travel, then detach and return to an eligible owner after delivery. Tests cover malus restoration and follower release conditions.

An idle pet may remain in water despite having another reachable bank nearby. Restore fallback to a reachable exit before merging.

Merged after CodeRabbit verified commit 5725a87, resolved its finding and approved the current head. PR CI and release CI both passed.

Published release: https://github.com/TF-Minecraft/CompanionPets/releases/tag/v0.9.8
Release commit: f369f26
JAR SHA-256: a5f1ab2a8b6e8cf22ce824189fa12529370026c8c97c202cb0f3793de539c50a

Final mvn verify: BUILD SUCCESS; 992 tests, 0 failures/errors, 3 optional external-configuration tests skipped. JaCoCo: 8,566 production lines covered, 0 missed.

Installed the verified release JAR in TF-Dev (TFMCDev01), with a backup. Paper started CompanionPets v0.9.8 successfully with 13 configured pet types; all 7 saved pets and the existing configuration were preserved. No CompanionPets startup warnings/errors.

Manual swimming validation remains pending: fetch across an 8–15-block river with a one-block bank and then a two-block slope with a nearby low point; call from the other bank; cross in FOLLOW; order a pet to sit while in water. Include currents and MythicMobs bodies. Mojang method signatures were confirmed in the installed Paper 1.21.10 build; actual traversal still requires this in-game test.
