Package collision: connector SDK and conduit-client both ship a top-level conduit/__init__.py #5

Description

@devarismeroxa

conduit-connector-sdk and conduit-client (ConduitIO/conduit-client-python) both install a top-level conduit/__init__.py. Installing both in one environment makes one overwrite the other, so imports from the losing package break.

Decision (DeVaris, 2026-10-08): before the v0.21 GA, merge into one distribution with namespaced subpackages: conduit.connector (SDK) and conduit.client (embedded/control-API client). Current 0.1.0.dev users take the import change; nothing has gone GA yet.

Acceptance:

  • Both packages install and import together in a clean venv.
  • The CI matrix (3.12/3.13 × ubuntu/macos/windows) stays green.
  • Trusted Publishing release workflow updated.
  • A migration note for dev users.

Context: SDK parity design, ConduitIO/conduit#2948.

    The PyPI name conduitio is now claimed: 0.0.0 placeholder published through Trusted Publishing (workflow run 37853185406, reserve-conduitio.yml).

    The merged distribution should publish as conduitio, with conduit.connector, conduit.client and later conduit.processor. Give conduit-connector-sdk and conduit-client a final release that points to it. Move the project into the ConduitIO PyPI organization once that request is approved. Note that conduit-sdk on PyPI belongs to an unrelated company.
