This is a feature request to add mainline linux-firmware as an available package to your apt repository for all releases. As you are certainly aware, new hardware and new features and bug fixes in the kernel often require the matching Linux firmware files traditionally shipped in a linux-firmware package. Relying on the existing out of date linux-fimware package isn't a workable solution.

What I've done so far on systems that need it is make /lib/firmware a shallow git clone of https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git.

So basically something like:

rm -Rf /lib/firmware
git clone https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git /lib/firmware --depth 1

But having it packaged as part of this repository would make sense and I may end up doing that when time permits.
