Community Website Proposal - xournal.app Domain

I built a professional website for Xournal++ and secured the xournal.app domain. As a user who relies on the software for PDF annotation, I noticed the current GitHub Pages site doesn't effectively showcase the software's capabilities to new users.

The website includes modern design, feature demonstrations with screenshots, clear navigation, and proper download sections. You can view the demo at [expired]

The site is about 90% complete with legal pages and minor mobile adjustments still needed. I'm covering all hosting costs and ongoing maintenance. All project content is properly attributed as a community resource.

Would this be useful for the project? I'm open to feedback and modifications.

Hmm, before opening this somewhat suspicious link, could you please tell, if you have looked at the Xournal++ webpage: https://xournalpp.github.io/? We don't just have GitHub pages.

Thanks for providing the screenshot and explaining the link.
The site does indeed look pretty professional and does showcase the app's features more effectively than the current website. Also the download section is indeed better organized. The guide and search functionality are missing compared to the current website. Some links do not fit (e.g. we don't have any representation on Discord or BlueSky). By the way Xournal++ is GPL 2.0 or later (not just GPL 2.0).

I don't have any experience with Netlify. How much of these improvements are tied to it? How much could be done with MkDocs as well? How open is the platform for everyone to contribute?

Hi @rolandlo.

The website's use of Netlify is purely for static website hosting for you to see the work I've done. The website can be hosted on any platform where static html can be rendered, whether that is your own Apache2/Nginx server or a cloud hosted platform.

The website is based on Python's Flask framework. There is a script that takes the Flask templates and converts them to static HTML that you can then upload to your web server. If this framework is not acceptable, if you could provide me with a list of technologies that you would prefer it to be based on, I can look at what needs to be done to make that possible.
