This is a great start @Sabrinknur! I can merge this in now, even though its not complete, or we can wait until its complete. (It won't be live onto the site until its complete and we add it to the list of supported locales). Do you have a preference? If you plan on working on this in small chunks, and want to merge in each section, that's one approach. If you plan on getting it all done, then you could wait and just do one pull request at the end. |
Hi,
I hope you’re doing well. I would prefer to complete it first, and then I
will do one pull request. Appreciate the suggestion.
Thank you

Okay, sounds good! I'm really excited to launch this; let me know if I can help you recruit helpers! |
Converted PR to draft. |
I'm super excited about this as well. I was doing research on some words
that I knew in English but never used in a sentence in Somali. I was
getting help from my parents to translate those words for me. But from now
on, I will be doing more translating, and my time will be focused on
translating rather than researching or learning new words, I believe. I
have my brother (he goes to UW Tacoma) who wants to join me, even though he
didn't register for credit. Is that okay? Also, if you could recruit people
to help, that's okay. If we don't get people to contribute, that's also
okay. I'll be putting more time into translating now that I'm done with
learning and researching unfamiliar words.
Also I couldn’t make it today because my daughter is sick.
Thank you.

Inviting your brother to help sounds great! Because this is an open source project, all are welcome to contribute, as long as they follow our contribution guidelines. The more helpers the better, especially with localization. |
@Sabrinknur How's progress on this? How can I help? We're getting close to the end of the quarter, so it's a good time to think about where you want to be before Spring break. |
Hi,
Thanks for checking in. I'm really putting in a lot of effort to finish it.
If I don't manage to complete it on time, can we still proceed with the
launch? I'm committed to continuing to work on it during this break and
throughout the next quarter.

@Sabrinknur Of course! This is an open source community, first and foremost, so you can always volunteer and contribute, on any time scale. I do expect contributors to follow our guidelines, regardless of how they're contributing. The credit some receive is just credit, it's not the only way to contribute. I mostly reached out to see if you need any help. There are a lot of details to get right in the localization guide, and I want to make sure you're getting the guidance you need. I can also help you find others to contribute too! |
Appreciate you checking in, and yes, you are welcome to recruit other
contributors.
Thank you.

@Sabrinknur, that's great. With Spring quarter starting, we'll likely have new contributors, some of who might be fluent in Somali. If you know anyone, encourage them to join! |
I would definitely recruit anyone who is fluent in Somali to join the team.
Thank you.

I have a quick question: now that this quarter is over, should I submit one
pull request with what I have so far, or should I wait and continue working
on it during the break and into next quarter and do one pull request when
I'm all done as we planned?

@Sabrinknur If you're going to continue working next quarter, no need to submit a PR until it's done. (I'll discuss this in our last meetup today too — anyone leaving the community should tidy up their work, but anyone continuing can proceed as they are.) |
Amazing, thank you!

Hello Amy,
I hope you’re doing well. As we discussed, I'm still working on the
translation. However, I'm sorry that I haven't been able to attend the
meetings. Due to Ramadan, I am fasting, and I have to take the train to get
home. If I attend the meeting, I will not be able to return home in time to
break my fast. Ramadan is ending soon, and after that, I will be able to
participate in person. Additionally, I am interested in contributing as a
manager or developer since I haven't had any internships as a junior. I
want to have something on my resume that aligns with my career goals.
However, I will primarily focus on translation since we have plenty of
developers and managers.
Thank you.

@Sabrinknur Thanks for the update! Never apologize for Ramadan — we live our lives first, school and learning second. I hope you have a good Eid al-Fitr, if you observe! There are definitely some development related tasks you could do re: localization too (adding the language to the list of supported languages, fixing layout problems that might arise as we test the language in the context of the application); when the time comes, I can provide some help on this! |
Thank you for being so understanding and supportive.
