Releases: win32ss/supermium
Version 121.0.6167.81
-Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 support restored, including x64. Self-extract or use the portable distribution available
through the Supermium Plus Package on https://www.patreon.com/win32 as the regular installer does not work on XP/2003.
A new installer will be developed to resolve the shortcomings of the regular installer.
There should be few caveats compared to Supermium on other platforms, with exception of hardware
acceleration and some issues with printing of web pages.
-New branding and new interface elements, specifically with regards to tabs. Trapezoidal full-sized
tabs are the default, but the following options in chrome://flags can be used to customize the tabs:
#custom-tab-shapes - if disabled, reverts the tabs to the standard Chrome look.
#override-tab-outline-default - black outline enabled by default with trapezoidal tabs, but not rounded tabs.
#override-new-tab-button-shape-default - toggles between rounded new tab button and trapezoidal new tab button.
#compact-ui - reduces the padding of the address bar and the tabs.
#transparent-tabs - introduces some level of transparency to tabs (best with Aero Glass enabled)
-Many new flags from ungoogled-chromium. There are too many to list, but they include:
#tab-hover-cards - disable tab hover cards
#custom-ntp - set a custom new-tab page
#disable-sharing-hub
#clear-data-on-exit
Other flags will be shown in chrome://flags with "ungoogled-chromium" attribution in their descriptions.
-In particular, the flags #disable-encryption and #disable-machine-id now make Supermium user data portable
if enabled. The "portable" distribution will have a launch script with these flags enabled as well as a data
directory in the same directory as the executable.
-The option to restore the download shelf has been restored with the use of flag #download-bubble. to disable the download bubble.
-Flag #power-bookmarks-side-panel has been restored.
-Click-to-Call feature restored.
-GDI offsets in UI fixed. GDI crashes resolved.
-Rendering issues with tooltips and other UI elements should be resolved.
Please note that 2 CPU threads and at least 768 MB of RAM is recommended. We will make attempts to improve
performance on single-threaded systems for future releases.
Version 119.0.6045.192
-Moved to Chromium's stable branch. It is based off Chromium 119.0.6045.192, but incorporates some extra patches, such as patches against CVE-2023-6345.
-Windows Vista is now supported, at a level of SP2 (extended kernel not required anymore). Platform Update is optional. 64 bit browser recommended (especially for extended kernel users).
-GDI font rendering is now available, with the command line switch --disable-direct-write or the persistent flag #force-gdi.
-Protocol handling is fixed upon discovery of protocol handler string length limitation bug in Windows. On Windows 8.1 and above, this also fixes the issue of Supermium being excluded from the list of potential default browsers.
-Screenshot feature in Sharing Hub (in address bar) is restored.
-Appearence of PWAs is corrected to match the themes native to Windows NT 6.x systems.
-Safe Browsing Download crash bug is fixed.
-A persistent flag is now available to ensure that the system handles titlebar drawing on Windows 10: #disable-windows-10-custom-titlebar. This can be used in conjunction with AeroGlass for Win8.1+ or similar products.
-Localization issues are resolved and stray English-language strings should no longer appear.
NOTE: the 32 bit package was revised on 2023-12-04 to improve stability on 32 bit Vista.
The zipped browser folders are recommended if the browser is not to be placed in the user data folder.
Version 118.0.5991.0
An earlier release of 118.0.5991.0 was withdrawn due to a critical bug specific to Windows 7.
Changes:
-CVE-2023-4863 patched
-Updated to M118
-Secure DNS fixed on Windows Vista/7
-Google Sync and account integration introduced
This release was expedited due to the critical security vulnerability mentioned above.
The args,gn used to make this release is included here.
Version 117.0.5874.0
-x64 memory issues are corrected; memory usage should generally be lower than other Windows 7-compatible Chromium browsers above version 110
-x86 sandbox is fixed; x86 download issues are fixed
-Theming inconsistencies are corrected; Aero Glass now appears with custom themes while custom themes are now workable with the "XP-style" theme
-Widevine CDM support (not bundled with browser binaries but downloaded when needed) is now available; works with sites such as Bell Fibe TV but may not work with sites like Netflix, which seem to block non-oligopolic browsers (so nothing outside of the Firefox/Chrome/Safari/Edge grouping seems to work - UA-CH spoofer will be introduced in future to deal with these unfair blocks, and possibly other measures if necessary)
-User agent client hints are updated to return values for Windows 2000 and up; the values for 2000-Vista are outside of the scope of official documentation because it did not account for those versions of Windows
Hotfix for Version 117.0.5874.0
Hotfix for testing for Supermium 117.0.5874.0 which features tentative fixes to the following issues:
-Browser crashes when using the MacType option "ChicoThorn"
-SSE3 instructions being present in the x86 build
Users unaffected by these issues need not upgrade from the previous release of 117.0.5874.0.
Version 117.0.5859.0
This version of Supermium fixes the following issue:
-TTS voices being unavailable on Windows 7 and below
This version of Supermium adds the following features:
-H.264 decoder (used for YouTube live streams, Twitch etc.)
-32 bit build
-Two new flags in chrome://flags: #force-dark-mode and #force-xp-theme
-#force-dark-mode forces dark mode on the browser's UI elements
-#force-xp-theme forces the older Chrome titlebars that were previously used when desktop composition was disabled or unavailable
-Screenshot feature via "share" button on address bar (previously restricted to Windows 8.1 and up in official code)
-Public debugging symbols (with smaller page sizes so they are compatible with all Windows 7-compatible debugging tools)
Known issues:
-"Ask where to save each file before downloading" is non-functional in 32 bit Supermium. The workaround is to manually change the downloads folder as needed.
-(32 bit only) If a download is both done and continues to display the progress bar, copy and paste the download link to a separate tab and try again. You may have to reload the browser.
Furthermore, if your user profile has "disappeared", move contents of AppData\Local\Chromium\User Data to AppData\Local\Supermium\User Data.
Version 115.0.5760.0 R2
The sandbox now works on Windows 7, regardless of updating level. The --no-sandbox switch should no longer be needed.
Version 115.0.5760.0
This release is intended to fix issues experienced by some Windows 7 users.
Release 115.0.5744.0
The first release of Supermium. x64 only.
The priority of this release was to ensure stability; future finishing touches will follow in future releases.
Known issues:
-Windows Vista and 7 users will require the --no-sandbox switch if running without a GPU driver.
-Shortcuts and Start Menu items will not be formed by the installer on Windows Vista. The workarounds are to directly extract the 7z archive
to your desired area, or manually create shortcuts to Supermium, which will be installed in the AppData\Local\Chromium\Application folder.
