Abysmal HLS buffering time

I'm playing fairy large(24h) hls vods, single video track, no audio, and buffering time, comparing to stock video_player, is really slow. Default video_player shows first frame in 1-2 seconds, while fvp struggles for 5-10, same for seeks. I'm guessing that's because of ffmpeg hls demuxer, since libmpv based player struggles with the same issue. I'm wondering if something could be done with this, since i really need software decoding capabilities.

Well, that's sad, i really hope you can figure it out, since other than that nuisance, it's the best player that i used so far.

Do you plan to address this issue? I've seen that you assigned yourself to it a year ago, but i wonder if you are still up to that. I know what a pain in the butt hls demuxer could be.
