Project Abstract

This is a development template based on Polkadot's NPOS consensus, compatible with EVM.
It aims to enable new developers or teams in the Polkadot ecosystem to quickly create EVM-compatible chains based on NPOS consensus.

reopen #2342

Grant level

  • Level 1: Up to $10,000, 2 approvals
  • Level 2: Up to $30,000, 3 approvals
  • Level 3: Unlimited, 5 approvals (for >$100k: Web3 Foundation Council approval)

Application Checklist

  • The application template has been copied and aptly renamed (project_name.md).
  • I have read the application guidelines.
  • Payment details have been provided (Polkadot AssetHub (DOT, USDC & USDT) address in the application and bank details via email, if applicable).
  • I understand that an agreed upon percentage of each milestone will be paid in vested DOT, to the Polkadot address listed in the application.
  • I am aware that, in order to receive a grant, I (and the entity I represent) have to successfully complete a KYC/KYB check.
  • The software delivered for this grant will be released under an open-source license specified in the application.
  • The initial PR contains only one commit (squash and force-push if needed).
  • The grant will only be announced once the first milestone has been accepted (see the announcement guidelines).
  • I prefer the discussion of this application to take place in a private Element/Matrix channel. My username is: @_______:matrix.org (change the homeserver if you use a different one)

Thanks for the application @weimeme and I'm happy to see that you have identified a common pain point for developers. My question is, how do you plan to fund & maintain this project after this grant? What are your plans for gaining traction with devs and marketing this product in a way that it can gain some real adoption?

@keeganquigley Thank you very much for recognizing our ideas. In fact, committing to continuous maintenance without any financial return is a very difficult thing, unless it's a scam. However, we have currently found at least three cooperative teams. In the area of public chain development, we provide them with long-term technical support. Before their technology upgrades, what we must do is update this public template for testing. This is very necessary as it relates to our long-term cooperation with them and how many teams we can find for commercial cooperation in the future. Currently, the Dota community has also found us and hopes to use this template to create their own chain within a month. We will also receive their treasury rewards in such community development. SuperEX is a very professional and well-funded CEX team. They highly recognize the high TPS and high decentralization concept of the Polkadot chain (which is why they use Polkadot technology). It is very easy to obtain maintenance funds from them. For this template, multi-team cooperation is the driving force to ensure its continuous maintenance, and we have just solved this problem. Moreover, we will tend to apply for continuous maintenance funds for this template from these teams. The cost is not high, and they will be very willing to do so. Who would refuse to use the latest Polkadot technology, especially with Polkadot 2.0 coming soon?

Thanks @weimeme we also now pay all of our grants partly in vested DOT. This DOT is vested linearly on-chain for two years. If you are okay with this can you please include a DOT % line, indicating the amount of vested DOT you you are willing to receive? See https://github.com/w3f/Grants-Program/blob/master/applications/application-template.md?plain=1#L127

Thanks for the application, @weimeme. Happy to support it. While we wait for further reviews, could you fill out the KYB form (assuming you are applying as a company, otherwise please use this form)?

Hey @weimeme ,
I'm hopeful that you will keep maintaining the template with good documentation so that this will be a benefit to lots of teams trying to build on Substrate. I hope whatever projects are to launch with this template will still try to participate in the Polkadot ecosystem and not exist in complete isolation. I approve it as well. Once KYB has passed we can officially accept and merge your application. Thanks.

Yes, this solo chain is just an option for early teams to create projects. Many teams hope to build their own business on this and build a parachain after reaching a certain number of users and funds. This coexistence mode is very useful.

I have done the identity verification.

Thanks, @weimeme. Are you the sole beneficiary of the grant? You added a team name and team member, and all beneficiaries should perform KYC. Other than that, happy to support.

Yes, I am the sole beneficiary. In fact, JimYam was merely a recommender in this grant application, and he hope more teams getting involved in the development of the Polkadot ecosystem. He is currently involved in the development of other public chains that we are collaborating with. If necessary, he can also provide identity verification.

Congratulations and welcome to the Web3 Foundation Grants Program! Please refer to our Milestone Delivery repository for instructions on how to submit milestones and invoices, our FAQ for frequently asked questions and the support section of our README for more ways to find answers to your questions.

Before you start, take a moment to read through our announcement guidelines for all communications related to the grant or make them known to the right person in your organisation. In particular, please don't announce the grant publicly before at least the first milestone of your project has been approved. At that point or shortly before, you can get in touch with us at grantsPR@web3.foundation and we'll be happy to collaborate on an announcement about the work you’re doing.

Also, if you haven't yet, consider signing up for the Polkadot Alpha Program. The program offers plenty of resources for people building on Polkadot. Lastly, please remember to let us know in case you run into any delays or deviate from the deliverables in your application. You can either leave a comment here or directly request to amend your application via PR. We wish you luck with your project! 🚀
