Suriname (Tourist Card recoding — stale data fix)

Applied 2026-06-14. Reflects the standing e-Tourist Card system.

Suriname's entry policy has three tiers, and the dataset had most of them wrong (153 nationalities were marked visa required, and a handful were marked visa-free for no current reason). Corrected:

Passport Destination Old New
153 nationalities previously marked visa required Suriname visa required eta
China, Malaysia, Philippines, Serbia Suriname 30 eta
Chile, Denmark, Hong Kong, Sweden Suriname 90 eta
Tunisia Suriname 90 e-visa

The e-Tourist Card (USD/EUR 50, applied online before arrival, up to 90 days) is open to all nationalities except a short visa-required list. It is a paid electronic pre-arrival authorisation with no consular discretion — coded eta, consistent with how this dataset already codes the near-identical Kenya eTA. The previous visa-free outliers (notably Sweden at 90) were stale and had been inflating those passports' scores. Left unchanged: the visa-free CARICOM/South-American group (180) and the genuine visa/e-Visa list (e-visa, 21 countries including Tunisia, which moved off the stale visa-free value).

Source: Visa policy of Suriname (Wikipedia), corroborated by the Consulate General of Suriname in Amsterdam — the dataset's existing visa-required list already matched the official Category-3 list exactly, confirming the categorisation.

  • Russia ↔ Oman: ratified, start date not announced. Oman MFA
  • Libya: airport visa-on-arrival suspended ~10 June 2026 pending a new framework — no dataset cells were coded as Libya VOA, so nothing to change. Xinhua

Original Dataset Documentation

About datasets

There are 6 datasets with identical visa requirements data. Three datasets are matrix and three are long (tidy) format. Each comes in 3 versions: with country codes as specified in ISO-2 (two-letter codes), ISO-3 (three-letter codes), and full country names from no particular standard.

  • In distance matrices (files with matrix in the filename), the first column represents a passport (=from), each remaining column represents a destination (=to).
  • Files in tidy format (with tidy in filename) have three columns: passport (from), destination (to), and the requirement.
