Benefits

Why You Should Accept Verge Payments.

Verge Currency is fast, flexible, and secure, but most importantly it's a currency built with the idea of supporting widespread mass adoption as it scales out across the globe. Every week more and more people, companies and organizations discover the benefits and advantages of accepting Verge as a method of transaction.

Verge makes it possible to engage in direct low cost transactions - quickly, efficiently and securely, providing businesses and individuals with options for sending and receiving payments however they choose and for whatever they would like, instantly. With Verge, businesses and individuals have flexible options for sending and receiving payments securely and efficiently all around the world in a matter of seconds.

Verge Currency empowers the people by giving them a choice and control on how to handle their personal privacy. One of the most critical aspects of a strong and practical currency, is liquidity - Verge is one of the most liquid tradable assets available on the large exchange marketplace.

A Few of the Benefits:

1. Eliminate chargeback fraud

A Verge transaction is immutable. Once a client has paid for a product or service, the money is in your wallet. Unlike credit card payments, charges cannot be reversed.

2. Transaction speed and immediate availability

There is no third party-dependent waiting period, like with bank-owned payments. Depending on the load of the network, transaction time varies between 5 and 10 seconds. Once payment is successful, the transaction amount is in your wallet and accessible immediately. You can convert Verge Currency into fiat at the end of each transaction, at the end of each working day or according to a custom set schedule.

3. Lower transaction costs

Credit card payments usually end up costing you somewhere between a 2% and 4% charge fee. When transacting with Verge, this amount is only 0.1 Verge which generally translates to over a 90% savings on your transaction costs. As a merchant with either high ticket items or purchase volume, this dramatically decreases an over-inflated expense that was once necessary. Verge solves this.

4. Attract new customers

As Verge rises in popularity, more users seek out participating businesses specifically to transact with them over the competition. This can mean exposure to clientele you didn't have before.

5. Garner publicity

Cryptocurrency makes the news in a way fiat currency can't. Local, national and even international news outlets are reporting on businesses taking crypto payments, giving you an opportunity for free publicity.

6. Buy into an inevitable business practice

Given the steady rise of cryptocurrency, there is no indication that it will cease being in circulation. In the future, accepting Verge as payment will be a standard procedure as well as an increase in individual Verge value, providing you with additional opportunity to increase profits even further.

7. Gain experience with blockchain technology

Blockchain is the future. Verge is an easy, accessible way to introduce yourself and your business to its workings. This could lead to further technical exploration at a later stage once you've gained confidence working with the technology and have identified a need for blockchain tech in your business.

Verge Ambassador Program

The main goal of the Verge Ambassador Program is to educate and engage blockchain enthusiasts by providing them with the tools and community support they need to help Verge currency grow. Many (existing) community members may be willing to support Verge but are not sure where to start. That’s where the ambassador program comes in, this group of individuals share a similar passion when it comes to expanding the Verge ecosystem, sharing knowledge and educating others in the field of blockchain technology, and in particular, Verge currency.

Ambassador Departments

  • Development - This department mainly helps with the development of Verge code and keeping the Verge network secure. All the new ambassadors will work in tandem with the Verge core team, which will help them to ask the right questions and come up with great new ideas.

  • Outreach - This department focuses mainly on interacting with the community and identifying new businesses opportunities like approaching new companies and exchanges. Ambassadors can write to companies and pursue them to accept XVG as a payment.

  • Marketing - This team comes up with the best strategies on how to market verge currency, study the latest trends in social media, analyze exciting ideas and opportunities. Apart from all these, this team is also responsible for content creation which will be shared through all the official channels.

  • Graphics & Design - This team closely collaborates with all the other departments to create any graphic and visual aids necessary to support new announcements and partnerships. Ambassadors are free to design any additional content or help other ambassadors with their work.

If you are the kind of person who wants to contribute to the Verge Currency and has some innovative ideas, feel free to write us at ambassador@vergecurrency.com.

Note: For a fresh wallet install you can reduce the blockchain syncing time by downloading a nightly snapshot and following the setup instructions.

Nightly snapshothttps://verge-blockchain.com/down
Setup instructionshttps://verge-blockchain.com/howto

Windows Wallet Usage

  1. Download the pre-compiled software.
  2. Install
  3. In windows file explorer, open c:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\VERGE (be sure to change XXX to your windows user)
  4. Right click and create a new file verge.txt
  5. Edit the file to have the following contents (be sure to change the password)
    rpcuser=vergerpcusername
    rpcpassword=85CpSuCNvDcYsdQU8w621mkQqJAimSQwCSJL5dPT9wQX
    rpcport=20102
    port=21102
    daemon=1
    algo=groestl
  6. Save and close the file
  7. Rename the file to verge.conf
  8. Start the VERGE-qt program.
  9. Open up VERGE-qt console and run getinfo (or getmininginfo) to verify settings.
    Note: You must re-start the wallet after making changes to verge.conf.

OS X Wallet Usage

  1. Download the pre-compiled software.
  2. Double click the DMG
  3. Drag the Verge-Qt to your Applications folder
  4. Double click the Verge-Qt application to open it.
  5. Go grab a ☕️ while it syncs with the blockchain
  6. Note: It may look like it is frozen or hung while it is indexing and syncing the blockchain. It's not. It's chugging away, but currently the UI doesn't give you a lot of feedback on status. We're working to fix that. Syncing takes a while to complete (ie. > 10 minutes or more) so just be patient.
  7. Note: If you want to change your configuration the file is located at ~/Library/Application\ Support\VERGE\VERGE.conf. This isn't required by default.

Linux Wallet

  1. Compile using linux instructions.
  2. The wallet GUI is in ./verge/src/qt and the daemon in ./verge/src.
  3. Optional - the binaries to your favorite location. for use by all users, run the following commands:
    sudo cp src/VERGEd /usr/bin/
    sudo cp src/qt/VERGE-qt /usr/bin/
    Run ./VERGEd from wherever you put it. The output from this command will tell you that you need to make a VERGE.conf file and will suggest some good starting values.
    Open up your new config file that was created in your home directory in your favorite text editor
    nano ~/.VERGE/VERGE.conf
    Paste the output from the VERGEd command into the VERGE.conf like this: (It is recommended to change the password to something unique.)
    rpcuser=vergerpcusername
    rpcpassword=85CpSuCNvDcYsdQU8w621mkQqJAimSQwCSJL5dPT9wQX
    rpcport=20102
    port=21102
    daemon=1
    algo=groestl
  4. Save the file and exit your editor. If using nano type ctrl + x on your keyboard and the y and hitting enter. This should have created a VERGE.conf file with what you just added.
  5. Start the Verge daemon again
    ./path/to/VERGEd

Note: To check the status of how much of the blockchain has been downloaded (aka synced) type ./path/to/VERGEd getinfo.
Note: If you see something like 'Killed (program cc1plus)' run dmesg to see the error(s)/problems(s). This is most likely caused by running out of resources. You may need to add some RAM or add some swap space.

    Paste the output from the VERGEd command into the VERGE.conf like this: (It is recommended to change the password to something unique.)
    rpcuser=vergerpcusername
    rpcpassword=85CpSuCNvDcYsdQU8w621mkQqJAimSQwCSJL5dPT9wQX
    rpcport=20102
    port=21102
    daemon=1
    algo=groestl

General

What is Verge?

Verge is a digital currency designed for people and for everyday use. It improves upon the original Bitcoin blockchain and aims to fulfill its initial purpose of providing individuals and businesses with a fast, efficient and decentralized way of making direct transactions.

What is the Verge Currency Mission?

Our mission is to empower people around the world by bringing blockchain transactions into everyday life. Verge makes it possible to engage in direct transactions quickly, efficiently and securely. With Verge, businesses and individuals have flexible options for sending and receiving payments securely and efficiently all around the world in a matter of seconds.

When was Verge Currency created?

Verge Currency was created in 2014 under the name DogeCoinDark. In 2016, it was rebranded to Verge Currency.

Is Verge Currency Open-source?

Verge currency is proud to be 100% open-source. Our project is run entirely by volunteer community members and dedicated indiviudals who wish to make a difference in the world.

How Can I Get Verge Currency?

There are a few different ways to get Verge (XVG) coins. The most common option is buying them on a supported exchange. If you have a mobile device, you can also take Verge on the go and send/receive coins with your mobile Verge wallet via our iOS app or Android app.

Where can I find technical documentation on Verge Currency?

In the "Blackpaper". The Source Code can be found on "GitHub".

Did Verge Currency have a pre-mine?

No, Verge Currency was not pre-mined. The development team and contributors purchase the coins on the open market like anyone else. A premine is a funding mechanism, whereby the developers of a currency allocate a certain amount to go to a particular address before releasing it to the public.

What is the total supply of Verge Currency?

The maximum supply is capped at 16.5 billion XVG.

Why is the total supply so high?

Verge Currency is designed this way on purpose to allow for convenient payment amounts in everyday use. As opposed to Bitcoin, you would not have pay with 0.00004 BTC, for example. Another reason is to reduce the risk of market manipulation by making it harder to control a big portion of the total supply.

Is the Verge Currency team planning to burn coins?

No. Since there was no pre-mine or ICO, the team does not hold a significant amount of coins to affect the coin distribution or total circulation. This is yet another reason for high total supply. However, if you feel like burning some of your own coins, please feel free to do so or donate to the team ;).

Is it an inflationary coin?

No, the total circulation is capped.

How much is the transaction fee?

0.1 XVG (per kb) - Most transactions are less than 1kb.

How fast are transactions?

Depending on the load of the network, it varies between 5 and 10 seconds.

What is the transaction capacity per second?

100 transactions per second.

When will the maximum supply be reached?

It is projected to be reached in 8 to 10 years at the time of writing (2022).

How can I use Atomic Swaps?

Atomic Swaps Capability is utilized when trading on decentralized exchanges (DEX).

How can I accept Verge for my business?

You can integrate XVG in your business by using one of our integration partners, or using existing APIs that can be found on GitHub. Click here for more information.

How can I support the Verge Currency project?

The simplest way of support is by donating to fund the development. XVG and BTC addresses can be found here. If you would like to contribute to the project in the area of software development, digital marketing, video and graphic design or any other, please reach out to us directly on Discord or Telegram.

How Is Verge Development Funded?

Verge is an open-source project, so all of the development work is funded by the developers and community donations. We also have an official Verge Merchandise Store and Instant Exchange.

Why Does Verge Have a Public Ledger?

We believe a blockchain should be public if it is a currency, for a wide array of reasons; most of them to protect the users of the currency. With a public blockchain, you are able to see coin distribution and how many people are using the currency.

Where Can I Go to Learn More About Verge?

We are on a ton of different social platforms and are very active on Twitter, Telegram and Discord.

Where Can I Find the Verge Milestones?

We have a list of milestones listed on our site, rather than a roadmap. We decided that due to the dynamic nature of cryptocurrency development, things often change, and this makes more sense.

Privacy

Why use Verge for anonymity and not any other crypto over Tor?

Verge Currency wallets feature Tor and I2P networks already integrated, so that there is no additional setup required. Just download the wallet and start transacting with your IP-address obfuscated.

Why TOR and not simply VPN?

Both Tor and I2P encrypt all network traffic so that a user's IP address and data cannot be accessed. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) also encrypts network traffic, but you must trust the VPN provider to not log any of your activity (which they can and often do). Read this gist for more information about the pitfalls of VPN services.

Will Verge Currency have Masternodes?

No, we believe Masternodes are a weakness and centralize the network. A hacker could very easily perform a DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack on the Masternodes, causing the network to be brought down.

Why am I Seeing No Connection on my Verge Tor Android app?

If you see "no connection" on your main balance screen, please open the Orbot app and select "apps VPN mode" in the top left menu. A more detailed guide on how to use the Verge Tor Android Wallet can be found here.

Which Verge Wallet Should I Use?

Fundamentally, there are two types of Verge wallets you can use; QT and/or Electrum. For everyday users, we recommend you download an Electrum wallet, e.g. MyVergies.

What Is Electrum?

Electrum is an open-source Bitcoin lite wallet solution. Verge has forked the Electrum wallet codebase and updated to have it work with the Verge blockchain.

What Is an Electrum Wallet?

A Verge Electrum wallet is a wallet that is focused on speed and low resource usage. Electrum wallets use a technology called, Simple Payment Verification (SPV), that verifies transactions on the Verge blockchain without needing to download the entire blockchain. The SPV technology allows average transaction confirmation times to drop to ~5 seconds (instead of ~30 seconds for non-Electrum). For more general questions about Electrum, please go to their FAQ page.

What Is QT?

QT is a cross-platform application and UI framework for developers using the C++ programming language. It allows developers to write code in C++ and then release their software to various software and hardware platforms. Per Wikipedia, the toolkit was named QT because "the letter Q looked appealing in Haavard's Emacs typeface, and 't' was inspired by Xt, the X toolkit".

What is a QT Wallet?

QT wallets require that you download the entire Verge blockchain to your computer. In other words, your computer must download a record of every single Verge transaction that has ever occurred. Currently, the Verge blockchain is ~1GB and will continue to climb as more users make transactions. If you are using a QT wallet, make sure your device has enough extra storage to handle it.

Every time you open your QT wallet, the wallet will synchronize and download the latest blockchain data to your computer. If you decide to use a QT wallet, you will most likely want to use it on a regular basis; or it could take an hour or more (depending on how long it has been since you opened your wallet last) to download the latest blockchain updates.

Verge Key Tech

Explore our key technology features.

Technology Focused On The End-User

Verge is a digital currency designed for people and for everyday use. It improves upon the original Bitcoin blockchain and aims to fulfill its initial purpose of providing individuals and businesses with a fast, efficient and decentralized way of making direct transactions.

As time progresses this page will update as we integrate new technology onto our network.

Below, you will find a brief overview of some of the core technologies that Verge offers as of today.

Key features

Low fees, quick transactions, high circulation volume, and multiplatform support are the ingredients that make Verge perfectly positioned for mass adoption.

Transaction speeds are ultra-fast compared to other coins.

Tor

Tor IP obfuscation

Tor, derived from an acronym for the original software project name The Onion Router, is an IP obfuscation service which enables anonymous communication across a layered circuit based network.

Verge integrates Tor in all of our wallets, thereby eliminating any single point at which the communicating peers can be determined through network surveillance that relies upon knowing its source and destination.

Multi Algorithm mining

Multi-algorithm Mining

Verge Currency uses Proof of Work (POW) mining principle. It is one of the few digital currencies to have multi-algorithm support.

Verge has 5 different hash functions: Scrypt, X17, Lyra2rev2, myr-groestl and blake2s. Such design allows for a more equal access. Verge is not a private company funded by pre-mined coins or an ICO.

Allowing our community to mine Verge with good technology is vital.

Atomic Swaps

Atomic Swaps

Atomic Swaps, or atomic cross-chain trading, is a technology that enables direct peer-to-peer trading across separate blockchains with BIP65 support and eliminates the need for trusted third parties.

Traditional centralized exchanges can be replaced by decentralized exchanges (DEX), which means you always keep your funds in your wallet and do not rely on an intermediary. By enabling Atomic Swaps capability, Verge takes a proactive step towards a decentralized future.

stealth

Dual-Key Stealth Addressing

Dual-Key Stealth Addressing allows senders to create an unlimited number of one-time destinations addresses on behalf of the recipient without any interaction between the parties. Stealth addresses are a method by which additional obfuscation can be implemented to further protect the receiving party when transacting with Verge.

When multiple users send funds to a stealth address, rather than these transactions appearing on the blockchain as multiple payments to the same address, they instead appear as multiple payments going to different addresses.

rsk

Smart Contracts (Under Development)

Miniscript allows software to automatically analyze a script, including determining what witness data must be generated in order to spend coins protected by that script. With miniscript telling the wallet what it needs to do, wallet developers don’t need to write new code when they switch from one script template to another.

The structured representation of the scripts provided by miniscript allows wallets to be much more dynamic about the scripts they use. In support of that dynamism, miniscripts can be created using an easily-written policy language. Policies are composable, allowing any valid sub-expression to be replaced by another valid sub-expression (within certain limits imposed by the blockchain system).

To that end, it doesn't make sense to be setting roadmaps which might be irrelevant by the time they're published, so instead see what we have achieved so far!
