Prototype MySQL Database Source Implementation and Roadmap Inquiry for Official Database Sources/Sinks Support

Hello vectordev team,

First of all, thank you for all your hard work on Vector. I’ve been a big supporter ever since I started using it.

In my current project, I require a “Database Sources” feature, so I’ve experimentally prototyped a Database Source (for now, only a MySQL Source) which I plan to use in production.

• My experimental MySQL Datasource Prototype
• My experimental ODBC Datasource Prototype

Because our software is delivered to a variety of clients with different databases, I intend to continue experimenting with both Database Sources and Database Sinks. Along the way, I’ve come across these existing issues:

• #6556

Once my implementation reaches a stable stage, I would love to propose it as a PR. In the meantime, could you please let me know if there are any plans or timelines for officially supporting database sources/sinks? If an official solution is already on the roadmap, I’m happy to wait.

Thank you for your interesting and you kind words @powerumc. We don't have a plan for new DB integrations. I would gladly review a PR. We recently had a great contribution #21248 but for a sink. I am not aware of anyone else working on DB sources for Vector.

I understand there are currently no plans for additional database integrations. I’ll polish my prototype further and submit it as a PR for your review.
I’ll also check the source you mentioned (#21248) to ensure my contribution aligns well with Vector’s current direction.

I’ll reach out again if there are any updates or questions along the way.

I’m still actively working on it. Progress hasn’t been very fast, but it’s now implemented up to the integration testing stage.
I’m also in the process of learning Vector Dev’s development cycle and culture from this repository, which has been a truly valuable experience for me.
