v1.1: Name tracking images locally #8

Description

@user-github-me

Random image IDs are hard to recognize. Let owners attach a private name to each image.

This is part of the free, MIT-licensed v1.1.0 release. Implementation will arrive through a linked pull request; source availability does not imply a browser-store release.

Acceptance criteria

  • Names remain only in extension storage and password-encrypted backups.
  • Never add names, recipients, subject/body or email-derived metadata to tracking requests.
  • Support rename, search and clear read/count presentation; maintain old backup compatibility.
  • Test that network payloads contain only existing public cryptographic capabilities.

Contributor starting points

src/storage/email-tracker.ts, src/core/email-tracking.ts, src/app/sidepanel/components/EmailTracking.tsx. Read AGENTS.md, CONTRIBUTING.md and PRIVACY.md first. Tests should exercise privacy boundaries and observable behavior. Please discuss implementation on this issue before opening overlapping work.

Privacy boundary

No analytics, advertising, account requirement or paid-only functionality. No personal email content may leave the computer. Private keys and decrypted tracking activity remain local. Tracking events have no time expiry and are removed after successful collection and signed acknowledgement.

Implementation status

Implemented on the v1.1 feature branch in PR #11, pending review and merge. Checked items describe implementation; real authenticated mail-layout and cross-browser limits are recorded in the public test report. This issue closes through the PR merge.
