Summary by cubic

Enables NVIDIA AFX end to end for a locally installed runtime and adds the gated Speaker Focus (Early Access) profile.

  • Readiness now probes the native library, feature DLLs, models, license acceptance, and a real one-second effect run at every supported rate; only successful probes are cached, and file/model changes are re-checked on every call.
  • Enhancement streams audio in one-second chunks through a uniquely named .partial file instead of loading whole recordings, writes at the session's output rate, and logs the profile and exception before falling back to DeepFilterNet.
  • Speaker Focus is hidden from selectable profiles, and readiness refuses it unless the manifest records commercial terms for it or TRACKDUB_AFX_ALLOW_EARLY_ACCESS=1 is set; a hand-edited saved profile falls back to DeepFilterNet. It is licensed for internal testing and evaluation only and must not ship to end users.
  • Native setup preloads the SDK's CUDA/TensorRT/OpenSSL DLLs before the feature DLLs, resolves the core lib from the SDK's bin/, keeps one runtime per process, and detects every NVIDIA GPU architecture instead of defaulting to turing.
  • Removed the intensity control from Telephony Upscale and Speaker Focus because the SDK ignores it; an unreadable manifest now reports a manifest error. No hosted redistributable exists, so the runtime stays user-installed.

Verification

  • Added hardware-gated live tests (skipped unless TRACKDUB_NVIDIA_AFX_RUNTIME_ROOT points at an installed SDK) that cover probe-vs-full-run agreement for Early Access, streamed-vs-whole-buffer equality across chunk boundaries, and intensity no-ops; verified on an RTX 5070 with SDK 2.1.0.9 and 3.0.0.
  • The live selectable-profile and same-rate proofs exclude Early Access; the profile catalog invariant covers Speaker Focus.

Migration

  • Users point NvidiaAfxRuntimeDirectory (or TRACKDUB_NVIDIA_AFX_RUNTIME_ROOT) at their local SDK install and accept the license; nothing else changes.
  • Speaker Focus additionally requires TRACKDUB_AFX_ALLOW_EARLY_ACCESS=1 and SDK 3.0.0; it runs under NVIDIA's evaluation license.

Written for commit 3d66c82. Summary will update on new commits.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added NVIDIA Speaker Focus for 16 kHz and 48 kHz audio. It remains unavailable by default; development or evaluation requires explicit opt-in.
    • Audio enhancement now processes audio incrementally, including streamed input.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Runtime checks now verify that effects can process audio, not just load successfully. Processing failures can trigger the existing audio fallback.
  • Documentation
    • Clarified that Speaker Focus is licensed for internal testing and evaluation only and cannot ship to end users without NVIDIA’s written permission.

- Resolve NVAudioEffects.dll from the SDK root bin/ folder as well as the root.
- Detect the NVIDIA GPU architecture from the display adapter instead of
defaulting to turing; no NVIDIA adapter now reports unsupported.
- Use the SDK's frame-size parameter names (num_samples_per_input_frame and
num_samples_per_output_frame). The old names only worked through the legacy
fallback and left rate-changing effects unable to report output frame size.
- Add hardware-gated live tests (skipped unless TRACKDUB_NVIDIA_AFX_RUNTIME_ROOT
points at an installed runtime) that probe every selectable profile and run
real audio through the effects. Verified on an RTX 5070 with SDK 1.6.1.2.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Verified on an RTX 5070 (Blackwell) with SDK 2.1.0.9 and the nvidia/maxine
afx_win_* 2.1.0 blackwell models: every selectable profile creates, loads and
processes audio, including the chained telephony upscale (8 kHz to 16 kHz).

- Preload the SDK's CUDA, TensorRT and OpenSSL DLLs from bin/external before
the feature DLLs. They are not on the DLL search path, so nvafx*.dll failed
to load and CreateEffect returned NVAFX_STATUS_LIBRARY_ERROR.
- Skip input_sample_rate and intensity_ratio on chained effects; the SDK
rejects both with NVAFX_STATUS_INVALID_PARAM. Telephony Upscale no longer
  advertises intensity.
- Derive chained-effect frame sizes from the fixed 10 ms framing, because every
Get* call on a chained handle returns NVAFX_STATUS_FAILED. Default the input
  frame to sampleRate / 100 instead of a hard-coded 480.
- Use the shipped superres model stem superres_8kto16k.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Verified on an RTX 5070 with SDK 2.1.0.9 and the NGC 2.1.0 Blackwell models:
the real readiness service reports Ready for every selectable profile, and the
enhancement service produces AFX output on a WAV with the DeepFilterNet
fallback disabled.

- Register NvidiaAfxRuntimeReadinessService in DI instead of the always-not-ready
stub, and delete the stub. Settings are read through the existing settings
service so the runtime folder setting is honored.
- NvidiaAfxIntegration.IsStubbed() is now false and acts as a kill switch. The
readiness service and downloader take an optional seam so the kill switch
  stays testable.
- Cache Ready readiness results per profile and runtime root, since each probe
creates a GPU effect. Failures are never cached.
- Carry the detected GPU architecture on the readiness result and pass it to
the session so the matching model folder is used.
- The installer and downloader still refuse placeholder packages; there is no
hosted redistributable, so the runtime stays user-installed.
- Rewrite the AFX docs for the verified state, and add live end-to-end tests
that skip unless TRACKDUB_NVIDIA_AFX_RUNTIME_ROOT is set.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…lution

The SDK documents NvAFX_SetFloatList with intensity_ratio as the supported way
to set intensity on a chained effect (one ratio per effect); only the scalar
setter is rejected. Telephony Upscale therefore keeps its intensity control:
super-resolution stays at 1.0 and the user's ratio applies to the denoiser.
Verified live on an RTX 5070 with SDK 2.1.0.9.

- Add an NvAFX_SetFloatList binding and BuildChainedIntensityRatios.
- Resolve the readiness service through the composition root with saved
settings, so the DI registration is exercised rather than assumed.
- Pin the component-store readiness test to its own folder through settings so
it no longer depends on TRACKDUB_NVIDIA_AFX_RUNTIME_ROOT being unset.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Verified on an RTX 5070 with SDK 3.0.0.51 and the 3.0.0 Blackwell models: all
selectable profiles are Ready through the real readiness service and process
audio with no code changes versus 2.1.0. Record the core SDK resource name, the
changed NGC variant names, and that AEC and Voice Font are deprecated in 3.0.0.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A new live test processes the same audio at intensity 0 and 1 for every profile
that advertises an intensity control. On SDK 3.0.0 it showed that the chained
NvAFX_SetFloatList ratio list is accepted but leaves the output unchanged for
every list layout tried, so Telephony Upscale's slider would have done nothing.

- Telephony Upscale no longer advertises intensity.
- Remove the NvAFX_SetFloatList binding and BuildChainedIntensityRatios.
- Add Intensity_changes_the_output_for_every_profile_that_advertises_it so a
control that does nothing cannot be added again.
- Correct the wiring doc.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Speaker Focus (speaker_focus, 16 kHz and 48 kHz) is a single NVIDIA Early Access
effect. Verified live on an RTX 5070 with SDK 3.0.0: it is Ready through the real
readiness service, and it creates, loads and processes audio at both rates.

- Append SpeakerFocus = 5 to NvidiaAfxProfile so existing persisted values keep
their numbers, and add the catalog definition. It is selectable in the UI
without further changes because the profile list comes from the catalog.
- Do not advertise intensity: the SDK accepts intensity_ratio on this effect but
the output does not change (the new intensity live test caught this).
- The readiness probe now also runs one frame, since create and load do not prove
  an effect can process audio.
- On SDK 2.1.0.9 Speaker Focus runs a single frame but NvAFX_Run fails on the
longer live test signal, so it needs SDK 3.0.0; documented.
- Speaker Focus is under NVIDIA's evaluation license and must not be shipped to
end users until NVIDIA's terms allow it; documented.

This PR successfully adds the "Speaker Focus" profile to the NVIDIA AFX integration with comprehensive changes across profile catalog, session management, architecture detection, and testing. The implementation follows established patterns, includes proper error handling, and adds thorough test coverage. The changes appear well-structured and ready for merge.

Key additions:

  • New SpeakerFocus profile enum value with Early Access notation
  • Profile catalog entry for speaker_focus effect with 16/48 kHz support
  • Enhanced architecture detection with automatic GPU registry scanning fallback
  • ArchitectureBucket threading through readiness/session create chain
  • Fixed telephony upscale model stem and chained effect handling
  • Comprehensive test coverage for new functionality

This PR stacks on #370 (its first 6 commits are #370's head 2f9c2da), so I only reviewed the new commit daa38b1 (Speaker Focus profile and the one-frame probe). Findings on #370's commits stay on #370. Two things inline.

High-Level Assessment

The following are alternative approaches to this PR:

1. Gate Speaker Focus separately
  • ➕ Keeps an evaluation-licensed effect out of general profile selection.
  • ➕ Avoids offering Speaker Focus on SDK 2.1, where a short probe succeeds but longer processing fails.
  • ➖ Requires a profile-specific availability or developer opt-in policy.
  • ➖ Reduces immediate discoverability for local SDK users.
2. Probe sustained audio at every supported rate
  • ➕ Better detects effects that pass one frame but fail on longer input.
  • ➕ Makes Ready more representative of supported sample rates.
  • ➖ Increases GPU work and readiness latency.
  • ➖ Still cannot guarantee that a later production run will succeed.

Recommendation: Keep the local-runtime, probe-based integration and DeepFilterNet fallback rather than requiring a hosted redistributable. Before broadly exposing Speaker Focus, gate it behind an explicit developer or licensing policy; its documented SDK 2.1 long-run failure also makes the one-frame Ready result insufficient for that profile.

Review submitted: PR #372 review

Overall: One confirmed licensing/contract defect. The flip from stub to probe-based readiness, the registry-based architecture detector, the bin/ layout search, external-DLL preloading, the ready-result cache, and the native parameter/frame fixes all validated as safe in this codebase (the sync-over-async settings read is guarded by ConfigureAwait(false) and runs off a UI thread; the cache's stale-Ready window is acceptable given the documented DeepFilterNet fallback; "unsupported" architecture is cleanly handled by the manifest evaluator; the [SupportedOSPlatform] attribute is correctly guarded).

Inline finding:

  • src/Trackdub.Composition/NvidiaAfx/NvidiaAfxProfileCatalog.cs:165 — important · licensing — Speaker Focus (NVIDIA Early Access) added to the public catalog/enum with no shipping gate, contradicting nvidia-afx-wiring.md and making nvidia-afx-stubs.md false. thread

Out of diff: none.

Description
NvidiaAfxProfileCatalog.Definitions registers Speaker Focus as a selectable, executable profile
despite its documented evaluation-only terms, while IsStubbed() is false and no release or license
gate blocks it. Trackdub-gated lists catalog definitions that do not require a far-end reference,
and a local runtime with the models can pass readiness and run Speaker Focus, including when the
profile is selected through a persisted setting.

Evidence
The catalog entry supplies Speaker Focus’s selector and model paths, and the desktop derives its
selectable profiles from eligible catalog definitions. Readiness probes catalog profiles and the
enhancement service executes them after readiness succeeds; the kill switch is off, while the PR
documentation explicitly says Speaker Focus must not ship to end users under its current evaluation
terms.

## Issue description
Speaker Focus is an evaluation-only NVIDIA Early Access effect, but it is available for end-user selection and execution without a release or license gate.

## Recommended Fix
Keep Speaker Focus unavailable to production selection and execution until NVIDIA’s terms permit end-user use. Remove it from the end-user catalog or mark it as Early Access and filter it from Trackdub-gated’s desktop choices before advancing its core pin; also make readiness or execution reject it with a clear reason unless an explicit development opt-in is set, so persisted settings cannot bypass the restriction and live tests can still opt in.

2. Changing runtimes keeps the first library ✓ Resolved
Description
The newly registered live readiness service can select a different runtime root, but
NvidiaAfxNativeLoader.EnsureLoaded returns once its process-wide library has loaded, without
comparing that root. If settings switch from one installed SDK to another in the same process, the
session resolves models from the new root while native calls and preloaded dependencies still come
from the first SDK.

Process-wide native loading can retain stale runtime state when configuration switches SDK roots.

PR-#336

ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs

Evidence
The new DI registration activates readiness against saved runtime settings. Readiness resolves the
root on each call, whereas the static loader binds the native library and resolver on the first
call; session model resolution still uses its supplied root.

3. Unusable focus appears ready ✓ Resolved
Description
NvidiaAfxSessionEffectProbe.Probe returns success for Speaker Focus after one frame, which SDK 2.1
processes even though it fails on a two-second signal. With that SDK installed, readiness is cached
and Trackdub-gated displays the profile as Ready, but a subsequent enhancement falls back to
DeepFilterNet.
Code

PR-#335

ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs

Evidence
The probe returns success after a single frame, while the PR’s verification notes document that SDK
2.1 passes that frame but fails on a two-second signal. The successful result is cached by
readiness, and the desktop displays that result for the selected profile even though enhancement
falls back on the affected runtime.

## Recommended Fix
For Speaker Focus, reject the affected SDK version during readiness or probe enough representative audio to detect the documented longer-signal failure before returning Ready. Keep the one-frame probe for profiles where it accurately establishes readiness, and verify that the desktop displays Speaker Focus as unavailable on the affected SDK.

4. GPU changes retain the old model choice ✓ Resolved
Description
NvidiaAfxRuntimeReadinessService caches Ready results by profile and runtime root but not by the
architecture detected for that result. If the GPU override or detected adapter changes while those
two keys remain the same, the cached architecture is passed into session model resolution without
another compatibility probe.
Code

Cached readiness omitting mutable hardware state can reuse stale architecture decisions.

PR-#208

5. Workstation Ampere cards get Turing models ✓ Resolved
Description
DetectFromAdapterNames sends real adapter names through DetectOverrideArchitectureBucket, which
relies on ClassifyFromName. That function falls back to Turing for any NVIDIA name without "RTX
30/40/50", "A30", "Ada" or "Blackwell", so RTX A2000/A4000/A5000/A6000 (Ampere) are treated as
Turing. Pascal GTX 10xx cards are also treated as Turing instead of unsupported. Before this PR
that classifier only applied to the manual override; now it decides the auto-detected bucket for
every user. Affected machines look for Turing models and either report missing models or fail the
native probe.
Code

src/Trackdub.Infrastructure/Components/NvidiaAfx/NvidiaAfxArchitectureDetector.cs[R43-47]

+        string? nvidiaAdapter = adapterNames.FirstOrDefault(name =>
+            name.Contains("NVIDIA", StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase));

Relevance

●●● Strong

Known GPU families being deterministically misclassified is a concrete correctness defect.

ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs

Evidence
ClassifyFromName returns Turing whenever the name merely contains "NVIDIA", and
DetectOverrideArchitectureBucket also turns Unknown into "turing". Every real adapter name now goes
through this path.

- src/Trackdub.Domain/NvidiaGpuArchitecture.cs[24-55]

## Recommended Fix
For auto-detection, map known workstation names (`RTX A\d{4}` to Ampere) and treat unrecognized or pre-Turing NVIDIA names (GTX 9xx/10xx) as `unsupported` instead of Turing. A better option is to use the CUDA compute capability (e.g., via NVML or the PCI device ID). Keep the Turing fallback only for the explicit override, if anywhere.

6. Wrong GPU picked after a graphics card swap ✓ Resolved
Description
ReadDisplayAdapterNames includes stale display-class registry entries, while
DetectFromAdapterNames classifies the first description containing “NVIDIA” without identifying
the GPU AFX will use; a single inaccessible subkey also ends the scan before later adapters are
read. After an adapter replacement or on a machine with NVIDIA GPUs in different architecture
buckets, detection can choose the wrong bucket or miss the relevant adapter, causing readiness to
report missing models or the probe to fail before AFX runs.
Code

src/Trackdub.Infrastructure/Components/NvidiaAfx/NvidiaAfxArchitectureDetector.cs[R62-69]

+ foreach (string subkeyName in classKey.GetSubKeyNames())
+            {
+                using RegistryKey? adapterKey = classKey.OpenSubKey(subkeyName);
+ if (adapterKey?.GetValue("DriverDesc") is string description
+                    && !string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(description))
+                {
+                    names.Add(description.Trim());
+                }
Relevance

●● Moderate

Adapter selection and registry staleness are plausible platform risks, but evidence is
environment-dependent.

ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs

Evidence
The detector gathers display-class descriptions and selects the first NVIDIA match without checking
whether the adapter is present or selected for execution; its shared try block also lets one
inaccessible subkey stop enumeration. Readiness uses the resulting bucket to select the manifest
package and required features/*/models/<arch>/ paths, so a stale or unrelated adapter can produce
missing-model results or an architecture-specific TensorRT package failure in the probe.

Agent prompt
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution

## Issue description
Architecture detection can use a stale or unrelated NVIDIA registry entry instead of the GPU AFX will use, and one inaccessible subkey can prevent later adapters from being considered. The resulting bucket drives readiness model and package selection.

## Fix Focus Areas
- src/Trackdub.Infrastructure/Components/NvidiaAfx/NvidiaAfxArchitectureDetector.cs[41-78]
- src/Trackdub.Composition/NvidiaAfx/NvidiaAfxRuntimeReadinessService.cs[52-91]

## Recommended Fix
Identify present adapters using DXGI, the existing WindowsDeviceEnumerator, or a presence check, and classify the device selected for native execution rather than the first NVIDIA registry entry. If that device cannot be established, do not claim readiness based solely on registry order; if the selection policy is to use the newest architecture among present NVIDIA adapters, apply that policy explicitly. Move the try/catch inside the enumeration loop so an inaccessible subkey is skipped without discarding adapters that follow it.

7. Long recordings exhaust enhancement memory ✗ Dismissed
Description
Activating the native route makes ReadAllSamples and NvidiaAfxSession.Process run on complete
speech artifacts, allocating a full input array, aligned copy, output array, and sometimes a trimmed
output copy before writing the result. For sufficiently long recordings, these simultaneous arrays
can exhaust managed memory even though the native effect itself runs one small frame at a time.
Code

src/Trackdub.Contracts/NvidiaAfxIntegration.cs[26]

+    public static bool IsStubbed() => false;
Relevance

●● Moderate

Memory risk is plausible, but addressing it requires a broader streaming redesign without close
precedent.

ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs

Evidence
The switch activates this previously gated code. The service loads the entire input into an array;
the session allocates full-length aligned and output arrays before its frame loop and an additional
array when trimming is required.

8. Native failures leave no diagnostic trail ✗ Dismissed
Description
Enabling NvidiaAfxIntegration.IsStubbed()'s live path makes the enhancement service's bare catch
reachable for native creation, processing, and output failures, but that handler records neither the
exception nor a fallback reason. When one of those operations fails, the stage receives only the
fallback backend result, so an intentional fallback and a failed AFX attempt are indistinguishable
in its records.
Code

src/Trackdub.Contracts/NvidiaAfxIntegration.cs[26]

+    public static bool IsStubbed() => false;
Relevance

●● Moderate

Observability concern is plausible, but no close precedent specifically requires logging native
fallback failures.

ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs

Evidence
The kill-switch change activates native execution. The service catches every non-cancellation
exception without logging it, while stage artifact provenance is derived solely from the eventual
result backend.

Readiness
- Re-check files and the detected architecture on every call and cache only
successful native probes, keyed by runtime folder, effect, rate, architecture
and the native library's write time, with one shared probe per key. A removed
model or a GPU change is noticed immediately.
- Probe every supported sample rate before reporting Ready.
- Require NvidiaAfxLicenseAccepted; unreadable settings and a throwing readiness
check fall back to DeepFilterNet instead of failing the stage.

Native loader
- Keep one runtime per process: a different folder reports 'Restart Trackdub',
and the process is only marked loaded after every library preloaded, so a bad
first folder no longer poisons later attempts.
- Refuse to start when a different copy of one of the SDK's CUDA or TensorRT
DLLs is already loaded, instead of displacing it.

GPU detection
- Return every Tensor Core NVIDIA adapter's architecture, newest first, and try
each until its models exist and the native probe passes. This covers stale
registry entries after a GPU swap and mixed-generation machines.
- Exclude GTX cards, read HardwareInformation.AdapterString when DriverDesc is
empty, and skip an unreadable registry subkey instead of discarding the rest
(a live run on an RTX 5070 caught that regression).
- Classify RTX A-series, A100/A40/A10/A16 as Ampere and L40 as Ada.

Docs and tests
- Add a THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES entry for the user-installed Maxine AFX SDK and
  record the open commercial-safe review.
- Correct the overstated profile coverage and the detection and feature DLL
wording, add readiness, loader, detector and classifier tests, and fix the
SA1407 findings in the live tests.

…opt-in

Speaker Focus is an NVIDIA Early Access effect under an evaluation license, so it
must not be usable by end users by default. Mark it IsEarlyAccess, hide it from
SelectableDefinitions, and make readiness refuse it ('Early Access disabled')
unless TRACKDUB_AFX_ALLOW_EARLY_ACCESS=1 is set. A hand-edited saved profile now
falls back to DeepFilterNet. Live tests opt in through a readiness seam.

Record the readiness exception before fallback.

When GetReadiness throws, this catch discards ex and returns an FFmpeg result without the failure reason. Record the exception and profile through an application diagnostic channel before fallback so an unexpected native or settings failure can be diagnosed. Based on learnings: “In C# exception handlers ... log the specific failure mode ... rather than only a generic message or silently swallowing the error.”

Review submitted: PR #372 review

Overall: One confirmed test-hermeticity finding. The new DeepFilterNet streaming enhancer (the largest change since the previous review) and the AFX architecture detector / native loader / readiness cache rework all validated clean: recurrent state is correctly fresh-per-call and frozen across non-DF gates (matching native libDF), output-length accounting matches GetOutputSampleCount, cancellation and sink-failure propagate correctly, all buffers are bounded by windowFrames, the runtime-root pinning path is reachable, the per-architecture cache key plus every-call file checks close the prior freshness gaps, the early-access env gate precedes settings (no persisted-setting bypass), newest-first adapter ordering is correct, and the registry try/catch was moved per-subkey.

Inline finding:

  • tests/Trackdub.Composition.Tests/NvidiaAfxRuntimeReadinessServiceTests.cs:376 — suggestion · test-hermeticity — RuntimeFixture.CreateService doesn't pin the early-access gate, so GetReadiness_RefusesAnEarlyAccessEffect_UnlessItIsExplicitlyAllowed fails spuriously when TRACKDUB_AFX_ALLOW_EARLY_ACCESS=1 is set. thread

Out of diff: none.

Two discovery candidates were rejected on independent validation: the DeepFilterNet c0-lookback-cache freeze (it intentionally mirrors native libDF's df_dec conv buffer, which only advances for DF-executed/Speech frames — confirmed by the graph-transform Pad comment and the QuietGapsAndPartialHop window-size-invariance test), and an ONNX state-output ValueInfo dimension-ordering metadata nit (batch=1 always, no runtime effect).

Validation passed with no confirmed findings or material verification notes. Per the skill, I will not write initial.json or submit an empty review.

No noteworthy issues found.

The incremental diff since the prior review (review base a1a0042e) is small and clean: the effect probe now streams ~1 second (100 frames) instead of one frame to catch the Speaker Focus/SDK 2.1 late-failure case, with a new hardware-gated test asserting probe/full-run agreement for Early Access profiles; the readiness-test fixture pins allowEarlyAccess: false so tests no longer read TRACKDUB_AFX_ALLOW_EARLY_ACCESS; and four docs files refine the Speaker Focus licensing wording (internal testing/evaluation only, not production) and drop the SDK 2.1 Speaker Focus test-result claims. Independent validation confirmed the probe arithmetic is safe at all supported rates, the reused far-end buffer is alias-safe, sine phase is continuous across frames, the 100× cache-amortized probe cost is off the hot path, and the live test's narrower exception filter is an acceptable tradeoff that surfaces unexpected native failures. Previously reviewed findings (Speaker Focus gating, architecture-keyed cache freshness, runtime-root pinning) remain out of scope and were not re-raised.

Exclude Early Access from the remaining shipping-profile live proof.

The new Speaker Focus definition passes this same-rate filter. The live-test setup requires only the core DLL, so a runtime without the evaluation-only Speaker Focus feature fails this test even when its shipping profiles work. Exclude definition.IsEarlyAccess here, as the two changed selectable-profile loops do.

Validation passed. I reviewed the incremental diff since the prior opencode review (a1a0042e → 7912e24c): the new manifest-backed Early Access eligibility gate (CheckEarlyAccessEligibility + nvidiaafx-runtime.manifest.json effects/IsCommerciallyLicensed), the 100-frame effect probe, the benchmark option-parser refactor, the WorkingSetPeakMonitor exception-filter consolidation, the licensing-doc wording, and the new readiness/stub/live tests.

The manifest gating logic is sound: Speaker Focus ships as evaluation terms, so IsCommerciallyLicensed returns false and the only execution path is the TRACKDUB_AFX_ALLOW_EARLY_ACCESS=1 dev opt-in; persisted settings hit "Early Access disabled" and fall back. The NvidiaAfxEffectLicense type is reachable from the source-generated NvidiaAfxRuntimeManifest registration and deserializes case-insensitively. The 100-frame probe is alias-safe (Process only reads the reused far-end buffer), phase-continuous, and bounded (~1 s at every supported rate), and the new live test asserts probe/full-run agreement for Early Access profiles. The test fixture now pins allowEarlyAccess: false, closing the prior hermeticity gap. The benchmark refactor is behavior-preserving, and the WorkingSetPeakMonitor filter consolidation is equivalent to the five replaced catch blocks. I considered the --max-gpu-bytes entry in IsResourceOption (not handled by TryApply) but confirmed it is correctly rejected either way with no functional impact, so it is not actionable.

No noteworthy issues found.

Review complete. Here is the summary.

Overall: The incremental code since the prior opencode review (a1a0042e → 22a18d46) is clean. I independently re-verified the manifest-backed Early Access gate (CheckEarlyAccessEligibility + nvidiaafx-runtime.manifest.json effects/IsCommerciallyLicensed), the 100-frame effect probe, the source-generated manifest deserialization (transitive NvidiaAfxEffectLicense type, case-insensitive), the WorkingSetPeakMonitor exception-filter consolidation, and the benchmark option-parser refactor — all sound. The --max-gpu-bytes entry in IsResourceOption (not handled by TryApply) was already considered and dismissed by the prior review ("correctly rejected either way, no functional impact"); I confirmed it falls through to TryApply's default which returns false — rejected, never silently accepted.

The only genuinely new content is a documentation file, docs/audits/resource-telemetry-validation-audit-2026-10-05.md. Three suggestion-severity factual defects were confirmed in it. The submission helper's anchor preflight rejected the file path (it doesn't resolve in the PR's base-to-head comparison the helper validates against), so these are reported here rather than as inline threads.

Findings (all suggestion · documentation-accuracy, docs/audits/resource-telemetry-validation-audit-2026-10-05.md):

  1. Dead markdown links (lines 19, 20, 34, 35, 54, 55, 67, 68) — All 8 inline file links use Trackdub/src/... targets, but the repo root contains src/ directly (no Trackdub/ subdirectory), and relative links from docs/audits/ also need ../../. Every link 404s on GitHub. The doc's own prose (lines 27–31) uses the correct src/... form, confirming the prefix is unintended. Fix: strip Trackdub/ and prefix each link with ../../.

  2. WindowsAvailableVramReader misattributed to Infrastructure (lines 30–31) — The audit lists it under Infrastructure, but it lives at src/Trackdub.Composition/Runtime/WindowsAvailableVramReader.cs (namespace Trackdub.Composition.Runtime). The other two (ProcessResourceTelemetryCollector, ProcessWorkingSetSampler) are correctly in Infrastructure. Fix: move WindowsAvailableVramReader to the Composition line.

  3. Stale "Identified Gap" (lines 67–68) — The audit lists "Repetitive Exception Filters / Multiple catch blocks write identical diagnostics" as an open gap, but this PR's WorkingSetPeakMonitor.cs change already consolidated those five catch blocks into one catch (Exception exception) when (...) filter. The audit describes a gap the PR itself closes. Fix: remove or mark this gap as resolved.

Out of diff: none. A fourth minor audit-doc inaccuracy (line 64, "Strict enforcement of Path.Join over banned Path.Combine" — overstated; Directory.Build.props keeps RS0030 as a warning, not an error, with ~337 existing Path.Combine call sites) was noted but not promoted to a finding given its low impact.

…ign kill switch and test setup

- NvidiaAfxSession.ProcessStreamAsync processes bounded chunks and the service writes through a partial file, so long recordings no longer need full-length arrays; output matches whole-buffer processing exactly.
- The enhancement service logs the profile and exception before falling back.
- The kill switch is a constructor parameter like its sibling services, replacing the settable test seam.
- The Windows-only DI test is skipped via WindowsOnlyFact; live tests share ResolveRuntime and ShippingDefinitions helpers.

No noteworthy issues found.

I reviewed the incremental diff since the prior opencode review (a1a0042e → b08d2e7). The largest new change is the AFX streaming rewrite: NvidiaAfxSession.ProcessStreamAsync (one-second chunked processing through a .partial file) and the corresponding NvidiaAfxSpeechAudioEnhancementService rewrite that replaces whole-buffer loading with streamed I/O, adds an optional IApplicationLogger for fallback diagnostics, and replaces the IsStubbedOverride property with a Func<bool>? constructor parameter.

Independent validation confirmed the streaming output is identical to Process across all edge cases (empty input, sub-frame input, exact chunk boundaries, rate-changing effects with inputFrame ≠ outputFrame) because chunk size is always a multiple of inputFrame and the per-chunk min(frames × outputFrame, expected − written) clamp matches Process's post-processing trim. The .partial file lifecycle is correct on success (File.Move then no-op finally), cancellation (OperationCanceledException rethrows, finally cleans up), and sink/native failure (catch logs and falls back, finally cleans up). The StreamingMonoPcm16WaveWriter integration is sound: the declared expectedSampleFrames matches GetOutputSampleCount, and CompleteAsync validates the written count.

The manifest-backed Early Access gate has no bypass path (runs before settings, uses the request profile not persisted state, IsCommerciallyLicensed is fail-closed for null/empty/non-commercial entries). The logger is null-safe via null-conditional access in both catch blocks. The isStubbed constructor parameter is correctly defaulted to NvidiaAfxIntegration.IsStubbed in all three composition paths. The new readiness tests correctly pin allowEarlyAccess: false by default. The shipped manifest test confirms Speaker Focus is recorded as evaluation-only.

Previously reviewed findings (Speaker Focus gating, architecture-keyed cache, runtime-root pinning, audit-doc defects) remain out of scope and were not re-raised.

Exercise a native failure in this test.

missingSource makes WaveAudioReader.ReadMonoPcm16Async fail before NvidiaAfxSession.Create. The test checks logging and fallback for that read failure, but does not exercise a native create or run failure. Use a valid WAV and trigger a controlled failure at NvidiaAfxSession.Create or ProcessStreamAsync. Also, "C:\afx" treats \a as a C# escape; use @"C:\afx" for the intended path.

No noteworthy issues found.

I reviewed the incremental diff since the prior opencode review (a1a0042e → 3d66c821). The newest changes are the per-attempt GUID partial-file path (addressing the concurrency concern about two calls sharing a .partial file), the null-check for farEnd in ProcessStreamAsync (addressing the static-analysis null-deref on the far-end reader), and test refinements.

Three discovery workers independently validated the highest-risk areas of the diff:

  1. Streaming enhancement service (NvidiaAfxSpeechAudioEnhancementService.cs) — the GUID-suffixed partial file, File.Move after the await using FileStream closes, the finally cleanup (no-op after a successful move, deletes the partial on failure without touching the fallback's output), disposal order of IAudioSamples/NvidiaAfxSession, and the catch/fallback path (definition is assigned before the try; readiness.RuntimeRoot! is safe because every IsReady=true path returns a non-null root; OperationCanceledException re-throws, not swallowed). All sound.

  2. ProcessStreamAsync output equality (NvidiaAfxSession.cs) — traced every edge case (empty input, sub-frame input, exact chunk boundary, rate-changing effects with inputFrame ≠ outputFrame, far-end shorter/equal/longer than near-end). The chunked far-end handling (per-chunk clamp(farEnd.SampleFrameCount - position, 0, count) with Array.Clear zero-padding) is equivalent to Process's min(farEnd.Length, nearSampleCount) copy with zero-padding. The output trim (min(frames × outputFrame, expected − written) per chunk) matches Process's ComputeTrimmedOutputLength at the same absolute sample position. RunFrame call order and native state evolution are identical. No divergence found.

  3. Manifest-backed Early Access gate (NvidiaAfxRuntimeReadinessService.cs + NvidiaAfxRuntimeManifest.cs + nvidiaafx-runtime.manifest.json) — CheckEarlyAccessEligibility runs before settings load using the requested profile (no persisted-setting bypass). IsCommerciallyLicensed is fail-closed (null/empty/non-commercial Effects → false). The shipped manifest records speaker_focus as evaluation, so the only execution path is the TRACKDUB_AFX_ALLOW_EARLY_ACCESS=1 dev opt-in. Unfiltered exceptions from the manifest loader propagate to the enhancement service's catch block, which falls back to DeepFilterNet — still fail-closed. No bypass path identified.

Previously reviewed findings (Speaker Focus gating, architecture-keyed cache freshness, runtime-root pinning, audit-doc defects) remain out of scope and were not re-raised.
