Port Spectrum council and free discussions #176

Closed

Description

@lukemaj

What: Spectrum council and free modes are implemented on v2 with durable transcripts and bounded reports.
Why: Spectrum's engine I/O used deleted v1 commands and events (#166 assessment g3).
So what: PR #194 is open into fork/v2 with passing proof and full exact-head review; integrated client/provider acceptance and cutover follow.

Part of #166 (port 10 of 11). Plan and decision table: #166.

Contribution to the Objective

A Spectrum runs council and free modes, compared in judged tests.

Acceptance criteria

  • Transcript storage decided (fork command for server-authored messages, or a moderator-owned thread) and recorded here before implementation.
  • Drafters run as v2 subagents; barriers on run completion; state in a fork table.
  • fix(spectrum): preserve successor during restart cleanup #137 superseded-stop guard redone on run ids; recovery after restart.
  • Scheduler report delivery integrated.
  • In-flight Spectrums are drained before cutover.
  • Feature map and allowlist updated.

Non-goals

Blockers

All implementation dependencies (#168, #169, #170 and #174) are merged. Full cumulative source review passed on ceb8a8bb7109e919c08a1c6c32e28d49ddb2b08a. No implementation blocker remains; live client/provider and cutover acceptance belong to the integrated landing pass.

Proof

Exact-head proof: 340 focused tests across 28 files, five affected typechecks, changed-file lint/format, targeted export checks and fork ownership checks passed. Full independent review passed on the same SHA, with authenticated review/independent=success. Cloud CI passed on this head. The approved upstream rename-cancellation repair and Deferred regression are included; successful naming remains asynchronous. PR #194 contains the upstream modularity table and the server-authored transcript append extension point. No live provider/browser/device result is claimed.

What: Spectrum's v2 transcript, controller state, barrier and transaction design is approved after Sol review.
Why: v1 activities and transcript-writing commands were removed; v2 already supports ordinary messages and timeline items without runs.
So what: Build the unblocked barrier, fork state/outbox and append-command slices on feat/176-spectrum-v2; runtime integration waits on #168, #169, #170 and #174.

    Approved design

Reviewed answer received 2026-10-08: Sol AGREE with the revised transaction seam.

    • Keep a visible, provider-less ordinary v2 Spectrum transcript thread. Add a server-only internal transcript append command that emits existing message.updated and turn-item.updated events with null run/provider/node identities. No new event kind, fake run, provider copy of replies or separate transcript UI. Preserve exact reply bytes and all messages in source order.
    • Persist controller state in fork_spectra in Chromeria's isolated v2 SQLite. Versioned state contains lifecycle, revision/generation, mode/phase/round, participants, expected request/run identities, transcript references, durable raw-event cursor, inbox and typed outbox. Transcript bytes remain in v2 message/item records.
    • Use one serialized controller per Spectrum. Consume raw stored events with durable cursor recovery, not the live-only domain stream. Persist effects before sending, use deterministic command/message/item identities and existing receipts, and recover crash windows without duplicating work.
    • Use a typed fork mutation/guard plan consumed inside EventSink.commitCommand, after receipt deduplication. Recheck revision, generation and retirement there. State, inbox/outbox, transcript events and receipts commit atomically. Do not mutate state during pre-transaction command planning; do not add a fork event kind or an arbitrary transaction callback.
    • Drafters use v2 subagent lineage under the Spectrum transcript through Port Prism as a service behind upstream delegation #169's Prism service. delegate_task itself needs an active parent run, which Spectrum does not have. Avoid fake parent runs and unintended per-round delegated-task wakes.
    • Bind each barrier slot to its exact request message/command, child thread, Spectrum generation/round and RunId. Read run.created/run.updated, accept only completed bound runs with final non-streaming assistant records, and ignore unrelated runs or attempts. Council freezes all replies before each of at least two relay rounds, then starts moderator synthesis; free mode advances one completed Color at a time.
    • Port Prism as a service behind upstream delegation #169 owns reset waits and the one permitted provider retry. Follow only a durable, explicitly linked retry/continuation RunId, never the latest run by thread. Neither a pending retry nor a usage limit releases the barrier. Automatic retries/resumes cannot reopen stopped work.
    • Explicitly cancel owned participants; upstream stopDelegatedTasks traverses task records and does not cover lineage-only Drafters. fix(spectrum): preserve successor during restart cleanup #137 recovery interrupts name the exact bound RunId, use serialized generation checks and no holdQueue. Whole-Spectrum Stop retires its generation and participant subtree through Port child threads onto upstream lineage and delegation #168. Explicit input can resume; recovery cannot.
    • User input to a registered Spectrum persists transcript/inbox without launching a provider. Broadcast at a barrier boundary. Guard provider/scheduler launch targets and cancellation paths; use registration rather than an id prefix as authority. Imported legacy transcripts remain inert; drain v1 Spectrums before Land the v2 port on main and cut over Chromeria #177 cutover.
    • Capture original caller run and scheduler task-run identity. Persist report intent before settlement. Scheduled reports enter Merge scheduled tasks with upstream's scheduler #174's durable run-owned queue; only the scheduler delivers on its accepted continuation, including needs-you/restart, and holds completion while Spectrum/report handoff is pending. Non-scheduled callers get one guarded idempotent queued delivery. Port thread people and ownership #170 supplies owner inheritance.

Minimal upstream edits and extension point

Expected upstream seams, with final exact list to be recorded in the implementation PR: contracts internal-command union; Orchestrator command routing/planning and registration guards; EventSink typed guard/mutation transaction hook; server service wiring and MCP start_spectrum registration; existing input/stop/retirement/launch routes only where required by integration. Existing projections and clients should consume existing events; no new projection event cases are intended. Feature map and allowlist will own every actual edit.

Candidate upstream extension point: server-authored transcript append, atomically producing ordinary completed message/timeline records without launching a provider run. A generic upstream implementation would remove the fork's internal append command and its Orchestrator handler.

    Dependency split

Build now: pure barrier/round module and focused tests; fork schema/state/inbox/outbox repository; typed transaction seam and internal append-command slice with null-run timeline, dedupe and rollback proof.
Wait for #168: launch/lineage retirement and approval/runtime-mode semantics. Wait for #169: selection/kit integration and durable retry/continuation binding. Wait for #170: owner inheritance. Wait for #174: exact scheduler-run report queue and accepted-delivery contract. Final runtime integration and PR readiness wait for all four, then rebase onto current fork/v2.

    Evidence inspected

    Source at origin/fork/v2 12069eefd707f78eafc27812027c994eea0613cf: orchestrationV2.ts null-run messages/items, internal commands, run events/interrupt; LegacyV1ThreadImporter.ts null-run timeline precedent; OrchestratorMcpService.ts:1815 active-parent requirement; ThreadManagementService.ts:845 task-record-only stop traversal; Orchestrator.ts live-only domain stream and per-thread dispatch lock; EventSink.ts atomic commit after command planning. Fork source origin/main c1526a7a72: spectrum.ts, spectrumIdentity.ts, scheduler/RunReports.ts, SpectrumIntegration.test.ts. Upstream Spectrum/council issue/PR searches returned no candidates.

    Required focused proof

Council independent/minimum-two-round/frozen-input behavior; ordered free turns; exact multi-message Unicode beyond the client window; replay across outbox and receipt crash windows; missing/streaming replies do not pass; unrelated runs cannot pass; stale #137 interrupt cannot stop a successor; retry/reset eventual result and Stop during retry; scheduled report once through needs-you/restart with passing check held; applicable client null-run timeline and busy/stop behavior. Runtime/client proof remains pending dependencies and explicit browser authority.

Requirements and who asked: Objective and #176; user requested the reviewed Phase 1 decision and authorized unblocked implementation.
Deleted: v1 activity outbox and turn-binding events, fake parent runs, moderator repeat-copying, a second transcript UI and a new fork event kind.
Bottleneck: Dependency contracts for exact retry binding, retirement and scheduler handoff; transcript/transaction design is now reviewed.
Checked myself: Read v1 Spectrum/report paths and v2 message/importer, delegation, stored-event replay, interrupt, transaction and receipt implementations; verified live dependency state and upstream searches.

What: The unblocked Spectrum v2 barrier, state/outbox, transcript planner and shared-transaction constructor are published as a WIP checkpoint with 22 passing focused tests.
Why: Runtime integration depends on the child-thread retirement, Prism retry, people and scheduler contracts, which have not landed.
So what: Independently review this slice, then retain the dependency blockers until #168, #169, #170 and #174 land; no implementation PR is ready yet.

    Design clarification

Use the ONE generic typed plan list owned by #168: fixed contract. ForkCommitPlan { guards, mutations } contains typed Effects requiring only SQL/projection; constructors live in fork-owned modules and resolve services from the execution environment. Fork-table writes and projection reads only, no captured services, direct I/O or nested dispatch. Bounded ForkCommitGuardRejected error kinds are preserved directly. Receipt dedupe precedes plans; all guards, mutations, event append, projections/outbox and receipt share the transaction. This is the reviewed seam, not a serialized descriptor registry and not a second Spectrum EventSink hook.

    Exact checkpoint

    Implemented slice

    • Pure council/free next-round planner, exact message/command/RunId binding, explicit linked continuation rebinding, all-Color council barriers, ordered free turns, non-streaming complete reply checks and exact multi-message payload retention. Next round waits until the transcript outbox is consumed; retired/stale generations do not advance.
    • Versioned fork_spectra schema and validated state with durable raw-event cursor, original caller/scheduler-run identity, participant/round identities, typed inbox/outbox and transcript references. Compare-and-set revision/generation mutations reject stale replay, cursor rewind and report ownership changes. A retired outbox can drain without reopening its generation.
    • Server-only append schema (public client commands cannot decode it), pure existing-event planner for completed null-run messages/timeline items, and one atomic state/inbox/outbox mutation. Production internal-command union and Orchestrator routing are still pending integration.
    • spectrumPlan resolves SQL/projection only inside the generic commit seam, uses bounded error translation, and rechecks registration, revision/generation, thread deletion and absence of a provider session before committing.

    Proof on the checkpoint

    • env -u ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE pnpm exec vp test run apps/server/src/spectrum/barrier.test.ts apps/server/src/spectrum/store.test.ts apps/server/src/spectrum/transcript.test.ts apps/server/src/spectrum/spectrumPlan.test.ts: 22/22 pass.
    • Cases include council independent/two relay/moderator phases; ordered free turns; stale request/run/generation exclusion; explicit retry binding; exact large Unicode multi-message replies; missing/partial reply behavior; durable inbox/outbox/cursor and original scheduler-run ownership; retired outbox drain; normal null-run projection with no provider run; atomic commit and dedupe-before-stale-guard; rollback on guard rejection, later mutation failure and a real SQLite event-insert failure.
    • env -u ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE pnpm exec tsc --noEmit -p apps/server/tsconfig.json: exit 0, no errors.
    • env -u ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE pnpm exec vp lint apps/server/src/spectrum packages/contracts/src/spectrum.ts packages/contracts/src/index.ts: exit 0, no warnings.
    • Targeted formatter and git diff --check: clean.
    • Initial projection fixture omitted the thread shell and failed; it now creates the real shell before exercising projection. The initial constructor typecheck lacked Port child threads onto upstream lineage and delegation #168's module; staging the exact published seam resolved it. No gate was skipped or weakened.
    • Independent read-only slice review requested from a separate Prism reviewer thread; verdict pending. Final exact-head review remains required after runtime integration.

    Remaining blockers and next work

Candidate upstream extension point remains server-authored transcript append, atomically creating normal completed messages/timeline records without a provider run.

Requirements and who asked: Approved #176 design and explicit instruction to build the unblocked pure barrier, fork state/outbox and append slice, using #168's shared seam.
Deleted: A second EventSink hook, fake parent runs, provider repeat-copying, v1 activities and a serialized descriptor registry.
Bottleneck: Runtime dependency contracts and reviewed integration base; unblocked slice now has behavioral proof and an independent review underway.
Checked myself: Read the full exact #168 seam diff, ran the real SQLite projection/transaction tests and server typecheck, verified branch push and preserved every dependency blocker.

What: Spectrum WIP checkpoint is updated to 066430913508abdbe0dab1d3ab5914aba99247c0, removing provider identity from server-authored transcript events.
Why: Independent review found the planner copied the thread's provider identity even though no provider ran.
So what: Re-review the corrected exact head; runtime integration remains blocked on the reviewed dependencies, with no PR ready.

The same projection test failed before the fix with expected 'codex' to equal undefined, then passed after removing the envelope field. It now asserts providerInstanceId, runId, nodeId and driver are absent on both normal transcript events. Payload runId/nodeId remain null as before.

    Proof on unchanged corrected files:

    • Four Spectrum test files: 22/22 pass (env -u ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE pnpm exec vp test run apps/server/src/spectrum/barrier.test.ts apps/server/src/spectrum/store.test.ts apps/server/src/spectrum/transcript.test.ts apps/server/src/spectrum/spectrumPlan.test.ts).
    • Server typecheck: exit 0 (env -u ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE pnpm exec tsc --noEmit -p apps/server/tsconfig.json).
    • Changed-file lint: exit 0, no warnings (env -u ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE pnpm exec vp lint apps/server/src/spectrum/transcript.ts apps/server/src/spectrum/transcript.test.ts).
    • Commit formatter completed, diff-check clean, workspace clean. Remote branch verified at the same full SHA.

Only two Spectrum-owned files changed since prior checkpoint. No EventSink edit, dependency blocker change, merge, install, version bump or runtime-readiness claim. Full continuation remains in the prior handoff.

Requirements and who asked: Approved providerless transcript design and independent review require server-authored events without provider identity.
Deleted: Provider identity copied into transcript event envelopes.
Bottleneck: Exact-head re-review, followed by reviewed dependency integration.
Checked myself: Verified optional envelope contract, observed regression failure and corrected pass, checked typecheck/lint and live remote SHA.

What: Independent review of WIP 699dd9d71e2c4eb96674eeb2f7c7aad68e081cc2 found one blocking transcript provenance defect.
Why: The append planner tagged server-authored transcript events with the thread's configured provider identity, contrary to the approved null-provider contract.
So what: This exact SHA receives review/independent failure; the verdict is only for this checkpoint and does not assess runtime readiness.

    Scoped verdict

    Failure on exact candidate 699dd9d71e2c4eb96674eeb2f7c7aad68e081cc2, parent/base 74968edcc9d2c03baa7f91579d25d6380a96eb26.

    Blocking finding

    • transcript.ts:34-37 copied thread.providerInstanceId into the shared event envelope. Both message.updated and turn-item.updated spread that base at lines 52 and 71.
    • Every append therefore recorded a provider identity even though these server-authored records have no provider run. The approved Port Spectrum council and free discussions #176 contract requires null run/provider/node identities. The test checked null run identities in projected payloads, but not this event-envelope field.
    • The later fix must be reviewed on its own exact SHA. This finding remains blocking for 699dd9d.

    Evidence and limits

The author handoff on #176 records the focused test command with 4 files and 22 tests passing, server typecheck exit 0, targeted lint exit 0, and formatter plus git diff --check clean. /tmp/166-assess/176-typecheck.log is present and contains no type errors. I did not rerun tests or broad checks.

The inspected pure barrier path binds a slot to its child thread, request command/message, and exact run; reply acceptance filters by that bound run and preserves the supplied order and exact text of all non-streaming assistant messages. The shared commit constructor resolves only SQL and read-only projection services from the Effect environment. The transaction tests cover receipt dedupe and rollback on rejected guards, later mutation failure, and event-write failure.

Runtime event consumption, start_spectrum, final #168 retirement/cancellation behavior, #169 retry relation, #170 ownership, #174 scheduler delivery, feature map/allowlist, and client behavior are intentionally absent or dependency-blocked. This verdict does not claim final Issue or runtime readiness. The later integration must prove that only explicit fresh user input can resume a retired Spectrum; the current generic mutation shape does not encode the action origin, so this checkpoint alone does not verify that runtime boundary.

What: Independent review of exact checkpoint 066430913508abdbe0dab1d3ab5914aba99247c0 found no blocking defect in the unblocked Spectrum slice.
Why: The provider identity defect from 699dd9d is fixed, with regression coverage on both transcript event envelopes.
So what: review/independent success applies to this checkpoint only; runtime integration remains dependency-blocked and this is not final Issue readiness.

    Scoped verdict

Success for this slice on 066430913508abdbe0dab1d3ab5914aba99247c0, based on 74968edcc9d2c03baa7f91579d25d6380a96eb26. The corrected SHA is the live feat/176-spectrum-v2 head and its worktree is clean. Since the prior reviewed SHA, only transcript.ts and transcript.test.ts changed.

The blocking finding on 699dd9d is resolved here: planTranscriptAppend now omits providerInstanceId from the shared event envelope. The existing real projection test asserts providerInstanceId, runId, nodeId, and driver are absent on each emitted event. The handoff records the regression failing before the fix and passing afterward.

    Review evidence

    • The pure barrier logic binds each slot to its child thread, request command/message, and exact run. It ignores stale generations and unrelated runs, waits for incomplete or streaming replies, and preserves all accepted assistant text and the supplied source order.
    • The Spectrum mutation uses revision/generation compare-and-set inside the shared transaction. The constructor resolves SQL and read-only projection services from the Effect environment, writes only the fork table, and performs no direct I/O or nested dispatch.
    • The focused transaction tests exercise receipt dedupe and rollback on guard rejection, later mutation failure, and event-write failure.
    • Author-recorded proof on this SHA: 4 focused test files, 22/22 passing; server typecheck exit 0; changed-file lint exit 0; formatter and git diff --check clean. See the exact-head proof record. I inspected the source and records and did not rerun tests or broad checks.

    Scope limits

No runtime controller, start_spectrum, final #168 retirement/cancellation path, #169 durable retry relation, #170 ownership, #174 scheduler delivery, feature map/allowlist update, or client behavior is present in this checkpoint. Those remain unverified and dependency-blocked, not findings against this slice. The later runtime must prove that recovery cannot activate a retired Spectrum, that only fresh explicit user input can resume it, and that transcript append commands are dispatched from their durable source. No PR or runtime-readiness claim is made.

What: Spectrum-only commits are rebased onto merged #168/#170, and the durable transcript dispatcher, retirement admission, schema initialization and feature map are published at 4f8032dc2e47dd84b812f9ec52d9c11392d2d9b5.
Why: The landed seam enables atomic transcript delivery without waiting for Prism launch or scheduler reporting.
So what: Independently review this checkpoint; #169/#174 still block the complete controller and runtime feature, and no PR is ready.

Base is 6627c1afe9 on fork/v2; branch remains feat/176-spectrum-v2 in /Users/lukaszmaj/dev/toolboxmd/chromeria-worktrees/176-v2. The temporary #168 WIP ancestor was dropped, preserving only the two Spectrum commits before adding this checkpoint. Remote head verified, workspace clean. Previous review applies only to its original SHA; fresh review is requested on this exact head.

SpectrumTranscriptService.dispatch(threadId, commandId) reads the immutable command from the durable Spectrum outbox. It accepts no text from callers, replays matching accepted receipts after consumption, and atomically commits transcript events, state/inbox/outbox mutation and receipt through #168's seam. Revision/generation CAS remains the concurrent-state guard. Its plan now uses #168's shared retirement admission, including ancestor retirement; it never resumes stopped work. This service is ready for the serialized controller to call, but no production controller is wired yet.

Spectrum schema initialization is registered in the rerunnable foundation startup hook. Feature map lists Spectrum as a shared user of EventSink.ts and childThreads/ForkCommitPlan.ts, retaining child-threads ownership. Current upstream-file edit is only packages/contracts/src/index.ts. The other modified files are fork-owned forkV1Backfills.ts and docs/fork-features.md. No Spectrum edit to EventSink.commitCommand or Orchestrator was added. Candidate upstream extension point remains server-authored transcript append.

    Proof on this checkpoint:

    • env -u ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE pnpm exec vp test run apps/server/src/spectrum/barrier.test.ts apps/server/src/spectrum/store.test.ts apps/server/src/spectrum/transcript.test.ts apps/server/src/spectrum/spectrumPlan.test.ts apps/server/src/spectrum/TranscriptService.test.ts apps/server/src/persistence/forkV1Backfills.test.ts: 27 passed, 1 skipped. Skipped case is the existing optional live-source backfill snapshot test, not Spectrum behavior.
    • Four new real-service tests cover durable-source delivery/replay, missing durable command, direct Stop and inherited ancestor Stop without receipt, transcript write or reactivation. Repeated schema initialization is exercised. Existing rollback/dedupe cases pass against the merged accept_noop seam.
    • env -u ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE pnpm exec tsc --noEmit -p apps/server/tsconfig.json: exit 0. Initial service errors from deterministic tag key and untagged Effect failures were fixed, not waived.
    • Scoped lint on Spectrum and forkV1Backfills: exit 0, no warnings after hoisting the decoder.
    • bash scripts/fork-check.sh --base 12069eefd707f78eafc27812027c994eea0613cf: exit 0; feature map 15 entries valid.
    • Targeted formatter, diff-check and clean workspace verified. Commit hook introduced no later source edits.

Remaining: #169 Prism service launch/selection and durable continuation relation; #174 revised D31 hand-off. D31 supersedes the earlier separate scheduler report queue design: Spectrum owns immutable report command id, message id and payload in its own state/outbox, preserving exact schedulerRunId, and scheduler completion waits for settlement, accepted dispatch and completed report turn. Controller/raw-event recovery, exact-generation interrupts, explicit participant cancellation, registration/owner inheritance, start_spectrum and integrated runtime proof remain pending. No version bump, PR, merge, installation, live-data write or browser verification.

Requirements and who asked: User requested rebase onto landed #168/#170 and continuation of unblocked runtime pieces, preserving approved providerless transcript and transaction design.
Deleted: Temporary shared-seam ancestor, caller-supplied transcript text, separate Spectrum commit hook and D31's superseded scheduler report queue.
Bottleneck: Prism launch/continuation and revised scheduler hand-off contracts still in flight.
Checked myself: Verified merged seam and retirement constructors, exercised real SQL/event-service dispatch and Stop guards, inspected scoped typecheck/lint/fork-check output and live branch SHA.

What: Independent review of exact checkpoint 4f8032dc2e47dd84b812f9ec52d9c11392d2d9b5 against merged base 6627c1afe97378cd0c2e4528dec20e8177acd133 found one blocking barrier identity defect.
Why: SpectrumState accepts duplicate participant thread IDs, while round request identities are keyed only by thread ID.
So what: Enforce distinct Color thread IDs and request review on the resulting exact head; this verdict covers only the unblocked slice, not runtime readiness.

    Review target and verdict

    • Base: 6627c1afe97378cd0c2e4528dec20e8177acd133 (Port child threads onto upstream lineage and delegation #168 merged).
    • Head: 4f8032dc2e47dd84b812f9ec52d9c11392d2d9b5; local and remote feat/176-spectrum-v2 match, workspace clean.
    • Verdict: failure for review/independent on this exact SHA, due to the blocking finding below.
    • Read the complete 16-path Spectrum-only diff and surrounding EventSink, retirement, projection and startup implementations. No source changes or tests were run during this read-only review.

Blocking finding, P2: duplicate participants produce colliding request identities

State schema checks only participant count, so two entries may name the same thread. Round planning builds each command and message ID from that thread ID without a participant uniqueness check. With duplicate entries, both slots receive identical IDs. bindRun updates only the first matching slot; if both requests are dispatched, EventSink receipt dedupe admits only one command. The second slot can never bind, leaving the barrier incomplete. Reject duplicate participant thread IDs in persisted state or before round planning, and add a regression assertion that duplicate participants cannot produce a round with colliding identities.

    Non-blocking feature-map note

spectrumPlan.ts imports childThreads/retirement.ts, but Spectrum's sharedFiles lists ForkCommitPlan.ts and omits retirement.ts. The feature overlap scanner matches changed paths against sharedFiles; an upstream change to retirement semantics could therefore be missed under Spectrum unless its text also happens to match a Spectrum keyword. Add apps/server/src/childThreads/retirement.ts to Spectrum's shared files.

    Cleared for this slice

    • The transcript service selects append data from the persisted outbox by identity and accepts no caller text. Receipt replay is checked before state lookup; new work goes through EventSink.commitCommand.
    • The shared commit plan rechecks Spectrum revision/generation and direct or inherited retirement inside the transaction. State CAS, transcript events and receipt share the transaction. The reviewed tests cover stale-generation rejection, later-plan failure rollback, event-write rollback, direct Stop, ancestor Stop, missing commands and receipt replay.
    • The fork plan is constructed from mutation data and resolves SQL/projection services inside the shared transaction. Spectrum SQL writes target only fork_spectra; projection use is read-only.
    • The transcript planner emits providerless null-run messages/items. The projection test checks absent provider/run/node/driver envelope identities and exact large Unicode multi-message text.
    • The pure reply function preserves the caller-supplied message order. The controller's future read ordering, raw-event recovery, start path, exact-generation interrupts, retry relation, scheduler report handoff and owner inheritance are outside this checkpoint and remain pending their dependency contracts.

    Proof record

The exact-head proof comment at #176 (comment) reports 27 focused tests passed with one optional live-source backfill snapshot test skipped, server typecheck exit 0, targeted lint with no warnings, and fork-check exit 0. I inspected that record and the saved fork-check output; I did not rerun checks, per the read-only review scope.

Requirements and who asked: The user requested independent review of this exact checkpoint; the approved #176 design defines the state, barrier, transcript and transaction requirements.
Deleted: No requirement or source change; runtime work remains outside this slice.
Bottleneck: Duplicate participant thread IDs block this checkpoint; #169 and #174 still gate runtime integration.
Checked myself: Read the whole diff and surrounding implementations, checked the exact local/remote SHA and proof comment, and confirmed the workspace is clean.

What: Duplicate Spectrum participant thread IDs are rejected in checkpoint 958cce2bdd3bc6929ca3a10ce119da98e7a9dc2a.
Why: Independent review found duplicate IDs generated colliding request identities and could leave the barrier permanently incomplete.
So what: Re-review this exact corrected head; full runtime integration still waits on #169/#174.

Both findings from the failed prior review are addressed. The persisted state schema enforces distinct participant thread IDs during encoding and decoding. The regression proves duplicate state is rejected before insertion and valid distinct state still persists. Spectrum's shared-file map now includes apps/server/src/childThreads/retirement.ts.

    Proof on unchanged corrected files:

    • Regression failed before the schema fix (expected false to be true because duplicate state was accepted), then passed afterward.

    • Batches serialized; 1-minute load was 5.92 before regression, 5.01 before affected tests, 4.85 before typecheck, respecting the new load limit. No new broad checks, browser, server or runtime readiness claim.

Bottleneck: Re-review of this correction, then #169/#174 runtime contracts.

What: Independent source re-review of 958cce2bdd3bc6929ca3a10ce119da98e7a9dc2a against merged base 6627c1afe97378cd0c2e4528dec20e8177acd133 found no blocking findings in the unblocked Spectrum slice.
Why: The duplicate participant identity invariant is now enforced by the persisted schema, and the shared-file map includes the retirement dependency.
So what: review/independent=success applies to this exact checkpoint only; #169/#174 still gate runtime integration.

    Exact-head review

The local and remote feat/176-spectrum-v2 refs match the reviewed SHA, and the workspace is clean. I reviewed the full base-to-head diff and the fix against the prior findings.

    • The prior duplicate-ID finding is fixed in SpectrumState. Its participant filter is used by both the store's encode and decode paths. The new store regression proves duplicate state fails before insertion and distinct state persists afterward.
    • The prior feature-map note is fixed: Spectrum shared files now includes apps/server/src/childThreads/retirement.ts.
    • The earlier providerless transcript fix remains present. No additional actionable defect was found in the full reviewed slice. This is not a Prism/controller/report runtime-readiness review.

The proof comment at #176 (comment) reports 23 affected tests passed, full server typecheck exit 0, and clean changed-file lint and feature-map checks. I inspected the proof record and did not rerun checks.

Requirements and who asked: User requested an independent exact-head review; the approved #176 design requires unique participant identities and shared-file tracking.
Deleted: Duplicate participant thread IDs and the missing retirement shared-file entry.
Bottleneck: #169/#174 runtime integration contracts remain pending.
Checked myself: Reviewed the exact diff, schema/store paths, feature map and proof record; confirmed local/remote SHA and clean workspace. No tests or broad checks were run.

What Spectrum now registers provider-less transcripts and lineage Colors through the merged Prism service, with durable guarded Color launch commands.
Why Provider launches need exact run binding and atomic fork state updates without leaking admission plans to unrelated dispatches.
So what The published WIP is available for independent scoped review and #174 consumption; runtime completion remains blocked on #174 and #169 D35.

Checkpoint: 7cb115d306dbac89330925760523555894f679f1, remote head verified, branch feat/176-spectrum-v2, clean worktree /Users/lukaszmaj/dev/toolboxmd/chromeria-worktrees/176-v2. Rebased Spectrum-only commits onto 7963bda523bbec5e5366c44e4a6ea34a5b10039e (fork/v2). No PR or merge readiness claim, no version change.

Implemented D36: fork-owned Context.Reference plans read per dispatch and appended to existing retirement/Prism plans. Durable round outbox replay rebuilds exact generation admission. Tests exercise concurrent unrelated dispatch isolation, failed-dispatch cleanup, restart stale generation rejection, and preservation of native retirement guards.

Implemented D37: state-only commits require nonempty fork plans, use latest thread sequence, and reject core effects explicitly. Receipt replay, guard/mutation rollback, and no subscriber publication are tested. Generic helper modules are mapped to child-threads as primary owner, Spectrum shared. No Spectrum-specific EventSink behavior.

D32 representation available in spectrum/state.ts: report is null or the full narrowed message.dispatch command. reportAbandonment is null or { commandId, person, abandonedAt }, with an ISO timestamp in JSON (decoded DateTimeUtc). Old rows decode missing fields as null. Consumers must count abandonment only when commandId equals the current report commandId. SQLite roundtrip proves retention after the command leaves the existing outbox. Atomic settle/retire population, retry eligibility, human-abandon eligibility, delivery and scheduler registration guard are still pending, so the schema is not proof of report runtime readiness.

Proof on the committed content (commit hook only formatted, clean afterward):

    • env -u ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE pnpm exec vp test run apps/server/src/spectrum apps/server/src/fork/commitSequence.test.ts: 7 files, 34 passed.
    • env -u ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE pnpm exec vp test run apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/FoundationPersistence.test.ts --testNamePattern 'fork|accept_noop': 5 passed, 44 skipped.
    • pnpm exec tsc --noEmit -p apps/server/tsconfig.json: exit 0.
    • Targeted lint: exit 0; inherited unused layerUnavailable warning verified present in base Orchestrator, no new-file warnings.
    • Targeted formatter, git diff --check, feature map checker (18 entries): clean.
    • Heavy batches ran serially after load checks below 8. No provider CLI/live client proof.

    Upstream edits against intended base:

    File Added Removed Hook
    apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/EventSink.ts 7 6 Generic D37 validation and result-sequence helper; child-threads primary, Spectrum shared
    apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Orchestrator.ts 6 1 Per-command D36 plans merged with existing plans
    packages/contracts/src/index.ts 1 0 Internal transcript schema export

Fork-owned persistence startup hook also adds 2 lines in forkV1Backfills.ts. Server-authored transcript append remains a candidate upstream extension point. Each upstream hunk is at most 15 lines.

Remaining acceptance: serialized raw-event controller with durable cursor and exact recovery successors, explicit owned participant Stop cancellation, input/restart/report delivery, scheduler binding/fence and D35 conclusive outcomes, runtime tool wiring, council/free judged proof. Preparing another round currently assumes the controller has drained prior output; that controller is not yet integrated. Independent review requested for this scoped WIP, previous success on 958cce2 does not apply to this head.

Requirements and who asked User-approved #176 design plus D36/D37 and D32, with shared seam ownership from #168.
Deleted No separate scheduler report queue/registry, no Spectrum commit callback/event kind, no state-only core effects.
Bottleneck Runtime controller and reviewed scheduler/recovery dependency contracts, rather than additional schema machinery.
Checked myself Real SQL/event/orchestrator/Prism focused tests, typecheck, native guard preservation and remote exact-head verification.

What: Independent review of exact head 7cb115d306dbac89330925760523555894f679f1 against 7963bda523bbec5e5366c44e4a6ea34a5b10039e found one blocking P2 in the D37 state-only commit path.
Why: State-only validation rejects queued core effects but does not reject cancelUnsettledEffects, which EventSink still executes.
So what: review/independent=failure applies to this exact SHA; reject cancellation requests on state-only commits and request review of the corrected head. This is not a runtime-readiness verdict.

    Exact target and verdict

    • Base: 7963bda523bbec5e5366c44e4a6ea34a5b10039e.
    • Head: 7cb115d306dbac89330925760523555894f679f1; local and remote feat/176-spectrum-v2 match and the worktree is clean.
    • Reviewed the full 26-path base-to-head diff, surrounding EventSink, Orchestrator, retirement, Prism recovery and projection implementations, plus the exact-head proof record. No source changes or checks were run.
    • Verdict: failure for review/independent on this SHA because of the finding below.

Blocking finding, P2: state-only commits can cancel core work

validateForkStateOnlyCommand checks events, forkPlans and effects, but never checks cancelUnsettledEffects. The commitCommand input exposes that option at EventSink.ts:128-150, and EventSink.ts:612-651 applies cancellation and signals the effect worker after validation.

Trigger: a caller submits events: [], a nonempty fork plan, effects: [], and cancelUnsettledEffects targeting provider-turn.start or provider-turn.restart. Validation passes, the fork mutation and receipt commit, and queued provider work is cancelled despite D37's state-only/no-core-effects boundary. Reject cancellation options on eventless commits and add a regression proving neither cancellation nor the fork mutation/receipt commits.

    Cleared in this slice

    • The D36 ForkDispatchPlans reference is supplied around the individual Color dispatch. The Orchestrator appends it to existing fork and Prism plans, and the admission guard rereads the durable active generation, exact command/message/thread slot and outbox command. The integration test covers isolation from concurrent unrelated dispatch and stale-generation replay.
    • Spectrum fork-plan constructors capture immutable data and resolve SQL/projection services at execution. Spectrum writes are confined to fork_spectra; projection reads are guarded in the shared transaction. No captured service, direct I/O or nested dispatch was found in these constructors.
    • Barrier helpers bind by exact generation, command, message, thread and current RunId; linked continuation replaces only the named source RunId. Reply filtering retains all matching assistant messages in input order and waits for recovery or streaming records.
    • report retains the full narrowed dispatch command and reportAbandonment retains command ID, person and UTC timestamp after the outbox is consumed. The store regression proves SQLite roundtrip retention. Settlement, retry/abandonment eligibility and scheduler delivery remain unimplemented, as stated in the checkpoint.
    • Spectrum and D37 tests exercise stale guards, later mutation failures, event-write rollback, receipt replay and no subscriber publication. The proof comment reports 34 focused cases, 5 fork foundation cases, server typecheck exit 0, targeted lint/format and feature-map checks clean. I inspected that record but did not rerun checks.

Runtime controller, report settlement, cancellation flow and tool wiring remain dependency-blocked. This review does not claim full Spectrum readiness.

Requirements and who asked: User requested exact-head scoped review; approved #176, #168, D36 and D37 define guarded fork state commits without state-only core effects.
Deleted: No source change; this is review-only. A state-only cancellation side path is not allowed by the stated boundary.
Bottleneck: Rejecting cancelUnsettledEffects on the no-event commit path, then re-reviewing the replacement SHA.
Checked myself: Read the full exact diff and affected callers, verified local/remote SHA and clean workspace, inspected the linked proof record, and traced validation through effect cancellation. No checks were run.

What The D37 state-only commit path now rejects cancelUnsettledEffects before evaluating any fork guard.
Why Independent review found that eventless commands could cancel queued provider work despite rejecting new core effects.
So what Corrected WIP head is published for exact-head re-review; the scheduler schema remains unchanged and runtime integration still waits on #174.

Exact head a7398948a3a2d4d6a8a6c8561c7540e05c839101, branch feat/176-spectrum-v2, remote verified, clean worktree. Base stays 7963bda523bbec5e5366c44e4a6ea34a5b10039e. Prior candidate 7cb review failure remains historical failure.

Two fork-owned files changed only. No upstream edit or Spectrum schema change. #174 can continue using exact published 7cb115d schema.

Regression uses real EventSink and SQLite, queues provider-turn.start, submits an empty-event fork commit with cancellation, and requires rejection with unchanged queue, counter, receipt and sequence. Covers ordinary and accept_noop guard plans. On 7cb the regression failed because the commit succeeded with cancelledEffectCount: 1. After repair it passes. One test assertion initially named the error union instead of its concrete EventSinkWriteError tag; corrected after reading the real output, without changing the protected behavior.

    Checks:

    • env -u ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE pnpm exec vp test run apps/server/src/fork/commitSequence.test.ts: 4 passed.
    • Combined affected filtered run: 37 other Spectrum/Foundation cases passed, 46 skipped; cancellation test first stopped on the incorrect tag assertion described above. Previous exact predecessor proof has 34 focused plus 5 Foundation fork cases; no full-suite claim.
    • pnpm exec tsc --noEmit -p apps/server/tsconfig.json: exit 0.
    • Targeted lint, formatter check and git diff check: exit 0.
    • Heavy batches serialized with load below 8; no live provider proof.

Requirements and who asked D37 boundary approved by user, enforced by independent review finding on #176.
Deleted The unguarded state-only cancellation side path.
Bottleneck Exact-head re-review, followed by runtime scheduler/controller integration after dependencies land.
Checked myself Reproduced one queued provider-start cancellation before the fix and verified queue/state/receipt/sequence preservation after the fix; remote head verified.

What: Independent re-review of exact head a7398948a3a2d4d6a8a6c8561c7540e05c839101 against 7963bda523bbec5e5366c44e4a6ea34a5b10039e finds the prior P2 fixed and no remaining blocker in this scoped slice.
Why: Eventless validation now rejects cancelUnsettledEffects before fork guards or mutations, and the real EventSink regression verifies provider work, fork state, receipt and sequence remain unchanged.
So what: review/independent=success applies to this exact SHA only; the WIP is not runtime-ready and remains dependency-blocked.

    Exact target and verdict

    • Base: 7963bda523bbec5e5366c44e4a6ea34a5b10039e.
    • Head: a7398948a3a2d4d6a8a6c8561c7540e05c839101; local and remote feat/176-spectrum-v2 match and the worktree is clean.
    • The two-file delta from the failed head is limited to apps/server/src/fork/commitSequence.ts and its regression test. The prior failure status remains attached to 7cb115d306dbac89330925760523555894f679f1 and is not transferred.
    • Verdict: success for review/independent on this exact SHA. I re-read the correction and its EventSink/EventStore path, and checked the scoped proof. No source changes or checks were run.

Prior P2 resolved: state-only commit cancellation rejected

validateForkStateOnlyCommand now receives cancelUnsettledEffects and rejects it whenever the input event list is empty, before EventSink evaluates guards or mutations. The regression uses the real EventSink/SQLite layer, queues a provider-turn.start, and verifies rejection leaves the queue, fork counter, receipt and event sequence unchanged. It exercises both ordinary and accept_noop guards. The proof records that it failed on 7cb115d306dbac89330925760523555894f679f1 with cancelledEffectCount: 1, then passed after the correction.

I also checked that EventSink.normalizeEvents preserves input length and appendAgentEvents uses a plain insert, so a nonempty event list does not silently become an eventless commit through filtering or deduplication. The new rejection covers the actual no-event path.

    Other scoped checks

The previous review's checks remain unchanged by this two-file patch: D36 dispatch plans are scoped and reconstructed from durable outbox state; Spectrum fork constructors resolve only SQL/projection services inside the transaction; run and generation binding stays exact; report and abandonment payloads retain through SQLite roundtrip; rollback coverage remains present. These conclusions do not establish controller, report settlement, cancellation integration or tool wiring readiness.

The latest proof record reports four focused tests, server typecheck exit 0, and targeted lint, formatter and diff checks clean. I inspected the record but did not rerun checks. No broad tests, browser or server were run.

Requirements and who asked: User requested exact-head re-review; approved D37 requires state-only commits to have no core side effects.
Deleted: The eventless commit path that could cancel queued provider work.
Bottleneck: Runtime controller, report settlement, cancellation integration and tool wiring remain blocked on dependency contracts.
Checked myself: Re-read the two-file correction, traced validation through EventSink cancellation and EventStore append behavior, verified the real regression/proof record, and confirmed exact local/remote SHA and clean workspace. No checks were run.

What The server D45 review of 4667a18fc2776abe40b8a225f8382b0aeeaf9dac found one actionable P2 lifecycle metadata lost-update race.
Why Controller and report transitions can publish a full thread snapshot captured before their commit, replacing newer projection metadata.
So what review/independent is failure on this exact SHA; this does not review the newer dc11f16dd00330bccac75864e9212aab0ab55584 or claim GUI/full-candidate readiness.

Identity and scope: Read-only review of the server D45 delta from 45f20ec1c5405bfb65f33ba93bd0e9af75b8392a; full PR base 2589b896f0487ad55abf57935276475967ddd54c. The branch has since advanced to dc11f16; 4667a18 is its ancestor. Findings and status below bind only to 4667a18.

P2 — lifecycle event can revert a concurrent thread metadata update. Controller.save reads the shell before commit; ReportService does the same on status changes. lifecycleEvents copies the complete shell into the event, while ProjectionStore replaces the projected thread with that payload. A reachable interleaving is: controller/report reads shell A; ThreadMetadataMcpService commits a rename to shell B; lifecycle commit applies its full A snapshot. The Spectrum revision/generation CAS does not detect this because the rename leaves fork_spectra unchanged. The lifecycle command can therefore succeed while reverting the newer title and other shell metadata.

The correction must prevent a stale full-shell payload from committing over newer metadata. A commit-time projection equality guard/rejection or an equivalent merge against the current shell would establish that invariant. The reported regression should prove the rename survives and a rejected transition leaves fork state and receipt untouched before a stable-command retry settles.

Cleared for this server slice: The Spectrum MCP interrupt hook runs after scoped-target, caller-liveness, runtime-mode and interaction-mode checks; Spectrum without a provider run dispatches thread.stop and returns the existing interrupt shape with runId: null, while non-Spectrum falls through to the unchanged interrupt path. The source shows Stop/launch guarded by revision and generation, and the common retirement fold preserves the Spectrum lifecycle flag. The unbounded global-event observer is absent: runtime registers only scheduler.register("spectrum", controller.sweep); the shared scheduler uses its single coalescing clock and recovery reads durable stored events.

Proof inspected, not rerun: The author’s checkpoint record reports 52 Spectrum tests before the final race test and 7 Controller/MCP tests after it, server typecheck exit 0, targeted lint/format clean, fork-check 23 features, and clean diff. I inspected the recorded focused test output and exact committed source. No checks were rerun. These tests use real SQLite/EventSink/Orchestrator fixtures; they do not exercise provider processes or clients. GUI Stop remains pending.

    Elon record

    • Requirements and who asked: User requested independent review and exact status for the server-only D45 checkpoint; approved D45 covers public MCP Stop and authoritative lifecycle state.
    • Deleted: The global-event observer was removed; the existing shared scheduler remains the single sweep source.
    • Bottleneck: Lifecycle commits can overwrite a concurrent metadata edit from a stale shell snapshot.
    • Checked myself: Verified exact commit ancestry/remote state, read the complete D45 source changes and surrounding projection/metadata consumers, and inspected the checkpoint proof; did not run tests or modify source.

What: Web and mobile Stop now reach a thread whose shell reports a running Spectrum, even with no active run, and send the authenticated spectrum.stop bridge; the frozen UI head 366d544a85 passes its scoped proof.
Why: D45 needs GUI Stop for Spectrum, but clients cannot send the server-only thread.stop, and a client-guarded RPC is refused unless the calling command installs the session-backed permission guard.
So what: The root integrates this head and runs exact-head proof; this exact SHA needs independent review, with attention to the guard boundary and the Vite lint allowlist.

    Exact target

    • Branch wip/176-spectrum-stop, head 366d544a8572f528c21daeec039b38f8896be77f, pushed and verified with git ls-remote (remote SHA matches). Clean worktree.
    • Base f5ce1f2ef5 (shell flag contract), then e584dc8fcc = cherry-pick of root contract d67a9beb53 (spectrum.stop), then UI commits 4c14dd7ea2, 800a9653bc, 366d544a85. The UI diff is e584dc8fcc..366d544a85. Server bridge dc11f16dd0 is not on this branch.

    Behavior

    • Flag: clients read forkSpectrumRunning from the presented shell's source. A live thread.updated that changes only the flag replaces the shell, because sameThreadShell is Schema.toEquivalence(OrchestrationV2ThreadShell). The wire and cache JSON schemas spread the shell fields. Mobile's projection fallback shell copies the flag.
    • Web: canInterruptRunningThread uses deriveCanStopThread(hasActiveThread, runtime, forkSpectrumRunning), so the Stop button and the thread.stop keybinding both appear on an idle Spectrum thread. onInterrupt passes the flag.
    • Mobile: Stop visibility and handleStopThread both call threadStopInput(shell, interruptibleRunId). The previous null-run early return no longer blocks a Spectrum thread, and Stop is sent without a runId.
    • Shared operation: interruptThreadTurn with the flag calls requestGuarded(SPECTRUM_WS_METHODS.stop, { threadId, commandId }) with the caller's commandId or a newly allocated one, and returns the RPC's { sequence }. It reads no projection and sends no run.interrupt. Without the flag, the existing path is unchanged.
    • Guard boundary: spectrum.stop stays in CLIENT_GUARDED_RPC_SCOPES. interruptTurn is a plain createEnvironmentCommand, so the default RpcPermissionGuard would refuse every session. interruptTurn now pipes its execution through withGuardedRequests(runtime, registry), which installs createCommandPermissions(runtime, method).authorize(registry, ...), the same pattern as runtime.ts and vcsAction.ts.
    • Lint boundary: t3code/no-rpc-permission-bypass allows guard installation only in reviewed command boundaries. vite.config.ts adds packages/client-runtime/src/spectrumStop.ts to that list (2 lines).
    • Unchanged: normal threads, the "Stop subagent" control, local draft shells and pending-creation shells.

    Proof

Node 24.13.1 binaries called directly. node_modules is linked from 176-v2, with workspace packages pointing at this worktree. No pnpm exec or install. A fresh load1 check was below 8 before every step (2.6 to 4.4). Tests and typechecks ran on the same source tree as the commit; the later vite.config.ts change affects lint only, and lint and format were rerun on the final tree.

    Command Result
    vp test run client-runtime/src/spectrumStop.test.ts, web/src/spectrumStop.test.ts, contracts/src/spectrumRpc.test.ts, client-runtime/src/operations/commands.test.ts, client-runtime/src/state/shellReducer.test.ts, web/src/session-logic.test.ts 6 files, 116 passed
vp test run --reporter=verbose on the two new test files 14 passed
    tsc --noEmit in packages/contracts, packages/client-runtime, apps/web, apps/mobile exit 0 each
vp lint --report-unused-disable-directives on the 9 changed source and test files, before the allowlist exit 1: spectrumStop.ts:7:26 error t3code(no-rpc-permission-bypass)
Same lint after the vite.config.ts allowlist exit 0, 0 errors; remaining warnings all sit outside the changed hunks
vp fmt --check on the 11 changed files clean

Operation cases, run through the same withGuardedRequests composition as the interruptTurn boundary:

    • An operate session sends exactly one spectrum.stop with the allocated id 00000000-0000-4000-8000-000000000000, makes no projection read, and returns { sequence: 7 } from the mock.
    • With a known run and the caller's id stop-command-1, it sends spectrum.stop with that exact id and no run.interrupt.
    • A read-only session fails with EnvironmentAuthorizationError (requiredScope: orchestration:operate) and sends nothing.
    • Without the boundary guard, the call is refused and nothing is sent.
    • Without the flag, it sends one run.interrupt with holdQueue: true.

Mutation check (failing evidence). Three faults were introduced together, then the original files were restored and confirmed byte-identical with cmp:

    1. threadStopInput requires a run even while the Spectrum runs, which is the old mobile null-run guard.
    2. withGuardedRequests becomes a no-op.
    3. deriveCanStopThread drops the Spectrum branch.

The two files then gave 4 failed | 10 passed. The failures were "stops a Spectrum thread with no interruptible run", "asks the server to stop the thread, with no run to resolve or interrupt", "stops the whole thread under the caller's command id, even with a run id", and "offers Stop on an idle thread while its Spectrum runs".

Not run: repo-wide checks, server tests (owned by the root), and browser or device passes (the user's integrated pass). No live verification.

What Fixed the lifecycle metadata race in b8841dab7c473610e825f829560bb7ee512ac044.
Why A report settlement could otherwise publish a stale full-thread payload after a concurrent rename.
So what The complete D45 UI slice is under independent review; its integration and final combined proof/review follow.

The fork-owned lifecyclePlan(snapshot) reads the current projection inside EventSink's transaction and compares the complete typed thread snapshot. A mismatch rejects with bounded state_conflict, rolling back the fork state, lifecycle event and receipt. It writes no table, captures no service, performs no direct I/O and dispatches nothing. Controller repairs and report lifecycle transitions add this guard only when they publish metadata. A later scheduler tick retries from the current thread snapshot. The D41 hook now reuses Orchestrator's existing error mapper, keeping its upstream hunk small.

Author proof, direct Node 24 shims, serial fresh load gates below 8:

    • vp test run apps/server/src/spectrum: 57 passed / 14 files. The new rename race injects a committed rename between report planning and settlement commit, verifies unchanged Spectrum state and absent receipt, retains the new title and running flag, and proves retry settles while preserving the title.
    • Removed only the lifecycle guard at the report commit and ran that regression with --maxWorkers=2: one expected failure, eight unrelated cases skipped. Restored the file byte-identically before commit.
    • tsc --noEmit -p apps/server/tsconfig.json: exit 0. Targeted lint and format checks on the five changed files: exit 0; one pre-existing unused layerUnavailable warning.
    • Earlier public MCP hook removal reproduced the exact expected failure, no_active_run instead of interrupt_requested; source restored before this candidate.
    • The scheduler-only runtime integration proves a burst of 30 persisted global events creates no individual sweep; the registered shared tick launches the exact Drafter round without subscribing to EventSink.
    • The narrow human GUI RPC has real-service authorization, registered-Spectrum Stop, terminal owned runs, stable receipt replay and normal-thread refusal proof. Public core command schemas remain unchanged.

One first regression run failed because its receipt query used thread_id instead of the real receipt table's aggregate_id; corrected the observer, not the guarded outcome. The fresh gate then refused the next typecheck while load1 exceeded 8. No batch ran until the load recovered; the later typecheck passed. These are fixture providers, not a live client/provider pass.

What Independent review of the UI/client-runtime D45 component at 366d544a8572f528c21daeec039b38f8896be77f found no blocking issue in its scoped diff.
Why Web and mobile Stop now use the server shell flag to reach the authenticated Spectrum stop RPC, with the existing run-interrupt path preserved.
So what review/independent is success for this component SHA only; full integration review remains required after the server lifecycle fix is proven.

Identity and scope: Read-only review of e584dc8fcc4e5a2498daf3eef0edefae3a9991ec..366d544a8572f528c21daeec039b38f8896be77f on wip/176-spectrum-stop. The worktree was clean and the remote branch matched the exact head. Reviewed all 11 changed files, including the Vite lint-boundary allowlist.

Review result: No actionable finding in this UI/client-runtime component.

    • Web Stop visibility uses the shell’s forkSpectrumRunning flag; the same predicate controls the Stop keybinding, and onInterrupt passes that flag to the shared command. When absent/false, interruptThreadTurn stays on its existing projection and run.interrupt path.
    • Mobile visibility and handler both use threadStopInput. The handler now accepts a runless Spectrum thread; the projection-to-shell fallback carries the flag. The shell schema includes the optional field, and shell equivalence/reducer logic observes a flag-only update.
    • The new path uses requestGuarded(SPECTRUM_WS_METHODS.stop). spectrum.stop requires orchestration:operate; the plain interruptTurn command installs RpcPermissionGuard through createCommandPermissions for the target environment session. The default guard denies the call outside that boundary. Tests cover operate, read-only denial, missing-boundary denial, caller command ID, and unchanged ordinary run interruption.
    • The vite.config.ts allowlist is limited to packages/client-runtime/src/spectrumStop.ts, where the session-backed guard is installed; it does not enable raw client access.
    • The separate web background-work banner derives work from the root thread’s provider-run state. Spectrum registration creates a providerless root thread and separate Drafter threads, so the composer Stop/keybinding remain the Spectrum stop affordances.

Server dependency and limits: This UI branch contains the contract but not the server route/projection producer. I checked the separately published D45 server commit dc11f16dd00330bccac75864e9212aab0ab55584: it maps forkSpectrumRunning into the thread shell and registers the spectrum.stop RPC. This does not clear the separate server review failure for the earlier lifecycle metadata race; the root’s repair and the integrated candidate still need review. No browser, screenshot, or device pass was run, per scope.

Proof inspected, not rerun: The author’s exact-head proof record reports 116 focused tests across six files, four package typechecks at exit 0, targeted lint and format clean, and mutation failures for the null-run mobile guard, session authorization boundary, and web visibility. I inspected the record and source; I did not rerun checks.

    Elon record

    • Requirements and who asked: User requested independent review of the D45 UI/client-runtime component, including the guarded RPC boundary and Vite allowlist.
    • Deleted: No raw RPC path or broad lint exception; the existing run.interrupt branch remains the normal-thread path.
    • Bottleneck: The new UI Stop must surface a runless Spectrum and still authorize against the destination session.
    • Checked myself: Reviewed the exact diff and surrounding consumers, checked the live remote SHA, permission mapping, shell update behavior, and separately published server dependency; no tests or UI automation were run.

What The complete Spectrum v2 candidate is implemented and proved at 3f00d047747f5e9af33e40a846b649329a5c6c9a.
Why Spectrum required durable transcripts, exact-run barriers, lineage Drafters, scheduler report delivery and reachable Stop/abandonment paths on v2.
So what Independent review of this frozen cumulative candidate is running before the single PR into fork/v2; live client/provider and cutover acceptance remain the integrated pass.

Repository toolboxmd/chromeria, branch feat/176-spectrum-v2, exclusive workspace /Users/lukaszmaj/dev/toolboxmd/chromeria-worktrees/176-v2. Base is 2589b896f0487ad55abf57935276475967ddd54c; live remote base and head verified, working tree clean. All dependencies #168/#169/#170/#174 are merged. Delivery authority covers implementation, proof, Issue updates, commits, push and PR; no merge, version bump, installation or browser/device pass is performed.

    Exact-head combined proof

Node v24.13.1, direct worktree shims, one serial batch. Every heavy command had a fresh fail-closed load1 < 8 gate. The combined test uses two workers to reduce load spikes.

    • vp test run apps/server/src/spectrum apps/server/src/fork/commitSequence.test.ts apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/FoundationPersistence.test.ts apps/server/src/mcp/OrchestratorMcpService.test.ts apps/server/src/mcp/McpHttpServer.test.ts apps/server/src/scheduledTaskChecks/handoff.test.ts apps/server/src/scheduledTaskChecks/handoff.integration.test.ts packages/contracts/src/spectrumRpc.test.ts packages/client-runtime/src/spectrumReport.test.ts packages/client-runtime/src/spectrumStop.test.ts apps/web/src/spectrumStop.test.ts packages/client-runtime/src/operations/commands.test.ts packages/client-runtime/src/state/shellReducer.test.ts apps/web/src/session-logic.test.ts --maxWorkers=2: 286 passed, 27 files.
    • tsc --noEmit -p each of packages/contracts/tsconfig.json, packages/client-runtime/tsconfig.json, apps/server/tsconfig.json, apps/web/tsconfig.json, apps/mobile/tsconfig.json: all exit 0, no TypeScript errors.
    • Changed-file vp lint --report-unused-disable-directives and vp fmt --check on 81 files: exit 0. Existing warnings outside the changed hunks remain; no adjacent cleanup.
    • knip --workspace apps/server --workspace packages/client-runtime --exports --preprocessor ./scripts/knip-schemas.ts --no-config-hints: exit 0.
    • scripts/fork-check.sh: exit 0, 23 features. git diff --check: clean.

This proof combines real SQLite, EventSink, Orchestrator, controller, scheduler fence and client command boundary. Provider activity and recovery outcomes are fixture records; no CLI provider process ran. It covers council/free ordering and large verbatim replies, exact completion barriers, durable raw cursors/restart, composer/MCP parity and no transcript provider, D36 plan isolation/replay, D37 atomic state-only receipts and effect/cancellation rejection, three durable report attempts after conclusive recovery, typed refusal/Stop/non-retryable outcomes, abandonment races and late-send prevention, scheduler check-once/CAS/task recreation, authenticated human abandonment/Stop, web reachability/keybinding and mobile null-RunId handling, ordinary interruption unchanged, and Stop winning or losing the Drafter-start race.

    Review repairs and components

    • Superseded 45f20 findings: D45 adds both public Stop routes and the authoritative fork lifecycle flag. The global-event observer is deleted; the existing shared scheduler coalesces sweeps on its five-second clock, while recovery reads raw stored events from the durable cursor.
    • Superseded 4667a18 metadata race: the fork-owned typed lifecycle guard compares the current complete thread projection inside the commit transaction. A concurrent rename rejects the stale event and rolls back state/receipt; retry preserves the new title. Repair proof.
    • Failing-before checks: removing only the MCP Stop hook produced no_active_run instead of interrupt_requested; removing only the lifecycle commit guard failed the rename regression; restoring the actual 45f20 runtime observer failed the subscription counter (1 versus 0), and the current runtime passed. Sources restored byte-identically before commit. The UI worker's combined mutation failed the four targeted reachability/permission cases and restored its sources.
    • UI component proof, exact scoped independent success on 366d544a8572f528c21daeec039b38f8896be77f; integrated as three Spectrum-only commits. The full final verdict is still pending.

The GUI uses a narrow operate-scoped authenticated fork RPC because upstream thread.stop remains server-only. It verifies registration from the fork table and dispatches that same internal command through D41; the client-core command union is not widened. The client command boundary installs the existing session-backed permission guard and is explicitly allowlisted in lint. The report attempt schema remains unchanged. D40 and the bound of 3 total attempts are planner decisions reviewed/confirmed through the planner, not direct user decisions. Partly processed reports can be processed twice under the accepted at-least-once policy.

The PR will list every upstream-owned file with exact added/removed counts and candidate extension point server-authored transcript append. Newly edited mobile and permission-boundary hooks are owned by Spectrum; existing shared hooks retain their primary owners. UI screenshots and live browser/mobile/provider verification remain with the user’s integrated pass, as explicitly requested. Draining old v1 Spectrums before cutover and judged model-quality acceptance remain there too.

Requirements and who asked #176 and the Objective require council/free Spectrum; planner decisions reviewed by Sol define atomic fork plans, exact barriers, D40 bounded reports, D41/D43 transcript dispatch, D42/D44 abandonment and D45 reachable Stop on both clients plus MCP.
Deleted v1 activity outbox, separate report queue/registry, provider-activity delivery evidence, independent interceptor commits, global-event sweep subscription and MCP abandonment tool.
Bottleneck Final independent exact-head review, then the integrated client/provider and cutover acceptance pass.
Checked myself Merged Prism/scheduler contracts, current remote identities, 286 combined tests, five affected typechecks, lint/format/Knip, regression mutations, source diff and modularity ownership.

What Independent review of exact 3f00d047747f5e9af33e40a846b649329a5c6c9a found one blocking race in Spectrum Stop.
Why Stop plans its cancellation outbox from a projection snapshot before commit, while a child launch can commit without changing the Spectrum revision.
So what review/independent is failure for this SHA; reconcile all owned nonterminal runs before drain, report delivery, and reopen can finish.

Requirements and who asked: The user requested a full cumulative review of this exact Spectrum candidate, with no edits or tests; prior instruction authorizes recording findings and exact status on #176.
Deleted: No additional checks or review jobs were needed. This read-only finding needs no source change by the reviewer.
Bottleneck: Stop's one-time run snapshot and the retired controller's effect-only drain predicate.
Checked myself: Read the exact committed tree through git show, verified its remote SHA and base, traced Stop planning, launch admission, commit CAS, retired drain, and queued cancellation, and inspected the exact-head proof comment. I did not run tests or modify source.

Finding P2: Stop can leave a concurrently launched owned run nonterminal

    Location: apps/server/src/spectrum/commandPlan.ts:61-67, 77-84; apps/server/src/spectrum/launchAdmission.ts:18-52; apps/server/src/spectrum/Controller.ts:154-165, 171-190, 215-219.

Trigger and path: thread.stop queries descendant nonterminal runs before its EventSink commit, then stores cancellations for only the rows returned. If a Color launch commits run.created after that query but before Stop commits, spectrumLaunchAdmission still accepts it because the parent row remains active. That admission has guards but no fork mutation, so it does not advance the revision checked by Stop's spectrumPlan; Stop can commit retired with an outbox that omits the new run. Common Stop may cancel the new provider-turn.start effect, but that cancellation does not terminalize the projected run. The retired controller checks only unsettled provider effects in ownedWorkDrained, so it can deliver the Stop report and return while the run remains starting.

The related queued-run case also has a stuck path: if a run captured as queued advances before its cancellation is drained, queued-run.cancel rejects unless the projection still says queued (Orchestrator.ts:7701-7707), and the controller removes the outbox entry only after successful dispatch (Controller.ts:171-187).

The existing regression at Controller.integration.test.ts:391-431 covers Stop committing before the launch dispatch, which rejects the launch. It does not cover the inverse window where Stop has already queried runs and a launch commits before Stop's transaction.

Required behavior: Each retired pump must reconcile all current owned nonterminal runs into durable cancellation while preserving report and generation state; drain and reopen must remain gated until those owned runs are terminal. The exact-head proof is recorded at #176 proof comment; I relied on that proof and did not rerun checks.

The rest of the inspected cumulative Spectrum scope had no additional supported blocking finding. This verdict applies only to 3f00d047747f5e9af33e40a846b649329a5c6c9a.

What: The integrated Spectrum candidate fixes the last reviewed Stop/launch race and is frozen at b513d1fdb342dbe16423f77685a9026564f371b1.
Why: A Color launch could commit after Stop captured its cancellation list, leaving a nonterminal run outside that list.
So what: Independent review of this exact candidate follows; the final PR remains unopened until that verdict passes.

Base: 2589b896f0487ad55abf57935276475967ddd54c (fork/v2). Branch/worktree: feat/176-spectrum-v2, /Users/lukaszmaj/dev/toolboxmd/chromeria-worktrees/176-v2. Remote head and base verified unchanged; tree clean. The failure on superseded 3f00 stays recorded.

The new regression uses the real interceptor and Orchestrator: after the Stop plan captures owned runs, it commits a Color launch with rebuilt durable admission before returning the Stop plan. It intentionally omits the later round-binding write so the Spectrum revision cannot mask the interleaving. On 3f00, reopening succeeds with the owned run still live, failing the test. On this candidate, reopen refuses until the retired controller rebuilds exact cancellation commands from current lineage runs and drains them. Its report and generation stay intact, terminal/status-changed cancellation entries reconcile, and the delivery drain predicate now checks both live runs and provider effects. A projection-only transaction guard rechecks captured descendants on reopen; fork planning also refuses pending owned provider effects. All changes are in the four existing Spectrum files, with no new upstream hunk/schema change.

    Exact-head proof

Node v24.13.1, direct binaries, one serial batch. Every heavy command was admitted only at fresh load1 < 8. Admission refused before the web typecheck at load1 12.60; nothing was started there. The remaining checks resumed at 4.81 after load recovered.

    • tsc --noEmit -p <project>/tsconfig.json for contracts, client-runtime, server, web and mobile: all exit 0. No error TS; Effect suggestions are not errors.
    • Changed-file vp lint --report-unused-disable-directives (81 TS/TSX/JSON files): exit 0, existing warnings outside the feature hunks retained.
    • Changed-file vp fmt --check: exit 0, all 81 files formatted.
    • knip --workspace apps/server --workspace packages/client-runtime --exports --preprocessor ./scripts/knip-schemas.ts --no-config-hints: exit 0.
    • scripts/fork-check.sh: exit 0, 23 features. git diff --check: exit 0.
    • Focused failing-before: vp test run apps/server/src/spectrum/Controller.integration.test.ts -t 'Stop reconciles' --maxWorkers=2 on 3f00 plus the regression: exit 1, expected Failure but received Success for reopen with a live owned run. Repaired Controller file: 7 tests passed, then included in the complete 287-test run above.

Proof exercises real SQLite, EventSink, Orchestrator, fork controller and scheduler fence, with fixture provider/recovery events. No live CLI provider or browser/device was used. UI screenshots, judged model quality and v1 in-flight cutover drain remain with the integrated landing pass reserved by the user. No version bump, installation or merge.

What: Full cumulative independent review of b513d1fdb342dbe16423f77685a9026564f371b1 against 2589b896f0487ad55abf57935276475967ddd54c found no supported blocking source finding.
Why: The four-file repair reconciles current owned runs and rechecks run completion before drain and reopen while preserving the Spectrum report and generation.
So what: review/independent is success on this exact SHA; the earlier 3f00 failure remains on its own commit, and the user-owned integrated UI/provider pass remains separate.

Requirements and who asked: #176 and approved D14 require a safe Stop/reopen barrier; the user requested this cumulative exact-head re-review with no source edits or heavy checks.
Deleted: Reliance on Stop's one-time cancellation snapshot and an effect-only drain predicate.
Bottleneck: Final exact-head review; the authored proof is complete and posted.
Checked myself: Verified clean worktree, remote head, parent and base; compared all four changed files with 3f00; traced the real interceptor/EventSink/Orchestrator path and D14 guard boundary; inspected the exact-head proof. I ran no tests or checks.

    Review result

No supported blocking finding or missing proof remains in the reviewed source scope. The prior full audit of the cumulative 3f00 candidate still applies because b513 is its direct child and the only delta is these four Spectrum files: Controller, cancellationPlan, commandPlan, and Controller integration test. The remote feature head is exact, the worktree is clean, and origin/fork/v2 remains the reviewed base. The previous failure comment and status on 3f00 are unchanged.

The reverse launch/Stop race is repaired. Each retired pump now enumerates all current owned nonterminal runs and persists exact cancellation commands before draining them. Reconciliation changes only revision/outbox, preserving report and generation; it removes terminal cancellations and replaces a queued cancellation if the run has advanced. ownedWorkDrained now requires both no owned nonterminal runs and no pending provider start/restart/interrupt effects, so report delivery waits for the actual run drain. Reopen rejects live owned runs/effects during planning and adds a commit-time projection guard over captured descendants.

ownedRunsDrainedPlan follows D14's bounded guard contract: it captures only thread IDs, resolves ProjectionStoreV2 inside the guard, performs projection reads only, and has no SQL write, direct I/O, or nested dispatch. EventSink.commitCommand executes it after receipt dedupe and before event append in the existing transaction; the same commit includes the Spectrum revision/generation CAS. The launch admission guard still rejects old-generation launches after retirement. The regression commits a Color launch after Stop snapshots runs but before Stop commits, proves the old head allows premature reopen, then proves this candidate blocks reopen until the retired controller drains the run.

The exact-head proof is recorded at #176 proof comment: 287 focused tests across 27 files, five affected typechecks, changed-file lint/format, exports, fork ownership and diff checks pass. I inspected that record and did not rerun checks. No live provider CLI, browser or device is claimed; the user's integrated pass remains reserved for landing.

What: The upstream search found the matching branch-rename cancellation fix in open pingdotgg/t3code#15782; the approved minimal repair is pushed as ceb8a8bb71 on PR #194.
Why: Live upstream main b707eeb052782cfd8b1ff0445f84b2aaf01da38b still forks naming into the preparation scope without draining it before cancelled setup cleanup.
So what: The repaired head is receiving refreshed focused proof, exact-head review and cloud CI before PR #194 is reported ready.

Upstream check: live main file and open PR searches for worktree/rename/cancellation and ThreadLaunchService, plus the related archive/setup PR #14907. The entire #15782 diff at head 95ee502103e72217e7c99dc21cbb28ce16f0969a was reviewed before using its matching fiber pattern. It is unmerged and includes broader checkout ownership, retry and contract changes that are outside this repair. This is an upstream bug candidate with an existing proposed fix; no new upstream Issue/PR was opened.

The approved patch carries only the rename-fiber retention and cancellation drain: ThreadLaunchService +5/-1 lines, including import and comment. Naming still runs asynchronously after successful preparation. A new 51-line Deferred-based test holds renaming until after setup cancellation; on b513 it releases and observes the exact stale metadata event before failing on the restored worktree path. The repair passes that regression and all 53 ThreadLaunchService tests, including asynchronous naming. Existing assertions were preserved. Child-threads retains primary ownership of both already-allowlisted upstream paths; Spectrum is now listed as a shared user in the feature map.

I verified the clean local and remote head, exact parent b513d1fdb342dbe16423f77685a9026564f371b1, unchanged fork/v2 base, and the complete three-file delta. The earlier cumulative source review of b513 remains applicable to unchanged code; this review covers the repair and its ownership-map update.

In ThreadLaunchService, the existing background branch-name operation is retained as a Fiber. On setup interruption, the error handler interrupts and awaits that Fiber before finishing the tracker or removing/clearing the worktree. I checked the pinned Effect 4.0.1 implementation: Fiber.interrupt requests interruption and awaits the child Fiber. Successful naming still uses the existing background fork.

The Deferred regression gates setup and rename, cancels setup, then releases the rename only after cancellation returns on the broken source. It observes the stale :branch-rename event on b513; on this head, interruption precedes cleanup. It also checks that the cancelled run is failed, workspace metadata remains cleared, removal happens once, and the run is not released. The new entries in the feature map correctly mark both paths shared with Spectrum while child-threads remains their primary owner.

I inspected the exact-head proof: 340 focused tests across 28 files, all five typechecks, changed-file lint/format, Knip exports, fork-check and diff-check pass. The failing-before run on b513 and all 53 ThreadLaunchService tests are recorded there. I ran no tests or checks. At review time the PR's aggregate Test and transfer-report artifact jobs remained in progress; Server 3 and other reported shards had passed. No live provider, browser, device or judged-model run is claimed.

    Elon record

    • Requirements and who asked: The user approved the smallest repair for the PR feat(spectrum): run council and free conversations on v2 #194 cancellation regression; D41 requires setup cancellation to clear workspace state without changing successful launch behavior.
    • Deleted: The broader upstream workspace-contract changes and any weakening of the regression assertion.
    • Bottleneck: Cloud aggregate completion remains after exact-head source review and focused proof.
    • Checked myself: Exact SHA/base/remote and clean tree; complete three-file diff; setup cancellation caller; pinned Fiber interruption-and-await implementation; regression and exact-head proof record.

Delivered into fork/v2 by #194 (reviewed head ceb8a8bb71). Pending outside this Issue: the integrated UI pass, the judged council/free comparison, and the landing on main in #177.

What: #176 is finalized after PR #194 merged into fork/v2 at 62726b5ce141e6f4df82bbf76d731e29d172df1a.
Why: The merged Spectrum work and reviewed component checkpoints no longer need their transient workspaces or branches.
So what: Cleanup is complete; no further port work is running.

Verified PR merged and Issue closed. All three task worktrees were clean, and their exact heads matched the published main/component checkpoints before removal; no task work was unpushed. Removed 176-v2, 176-ui and 176-report, temporary task snapshot source copies, and all four local/remote branches: feat/176-spectrum-v2, wip/176-human-abandon, wip/176-report-delivery, wip/176-spectrum-stop. Verified paths, worktree registrations and remote branches absent. No process had these task directories as its working directory. Durable Issue/PR proof and temporary proof logs are retained. No install or live acceptance is claimed.
