From the is-agentic.com, isitagentready.com, Lighthouse, Mozilla Observatory and internet.nl checks of getthaw.app.

Markdown for AI tools

  • Every page of the site and every release answers Accept: text/markdown, and is also at its address plus .md (the home page at /index.md). Each Markdown version is made from the data its page is drawn from, so the two can't drift apart.
  • Any other address asked for as Markdown gets a Markdown 404 that says where to go.
  • Markdown responses carry Vary: Accept and an estimate of their token count (x-markdown-tokens).
  • llms.txt says when to use the site, and llms-full.txt starts with the site's own pages.

What agents and crawlers look for

  • The home page sends Link headers for llms.txt, its Markdown version, the docs and the skill index. It's now titled "Thaw: the open source menu bar manager for macOS" and declares og:type.
  • robots.txt adds Content-Signal: ai-train=yes, search=yes, ai-input=yes.
  • Three Agent Skills at /.well-known/agent-skills/index.json, each with its SHA-256: install-thaw, troubleshoot-thaw and thaw-url-scheme. Each skill is built from the synced docs and asks before running anything that changes someone's setup.
  • /.well-known/security.txt names the private reporting pages from the security policy.

Also

  • The lists the pages draw from now live in lib/, so the routes can read them.
  • Floe's glyph is no longer squeezed in the "Works with" row.

Left as is

  • The API, OAuth, MCP and payment checks fail because the site has no API.
  • The Observatory scores B+ because the CSP allows 'unsafe-inline'. Experimental SRI blocks the inline scripts Next writes into every page, and nonces would end static pages.
  • IPv6 and DNSSEC depend on DNS and hosting, not on this repo.

Checked

Lint and types pass on each commit. On the tip, 35 unit tests, the production build and Playwright pass (32 passed, 4 skipped). The new e2e test covers every page's Markdown version, the Markdown 404, the Link header, Content Signals, and each skill's digest.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Access Markdown versions of site pages, documentation, and release notes using .md URLs or Markdown content negotiation.
    • Discover Thaw installation, troubleshooting, and URI-scheme guides through the Agent Skills index.
    • Get a combined Markdown resource covering site pages, documentation, and release notes.
    • Find security reporting details at /.well-known/security.txt.
  • Improvements
    • Updated page metadata and discovery links to advertise Markdown and AI resources.
    • Markdown responses now include content-type and token-estimate information.
    • Added a content signal indicating the site is available for search, AI input, and AI training.

Install, Floe's install facts, privacy, Built with and Community keep their
lists in lib, so a route can read them: the install tabs are a client
component, and a server route cannot read plain values out of one. The pages
draw what they did.

📝 Walkthrough

The changes add generated Markdown for selected site pages and releases, routes for Markdown content and Agent Skills, and discovery metadata. Page data and installation facts move into shared modules. A security.txt endpoint and smoke tests are also added.

Changes: Site Markdown and AI resources

Layer / File(s) Summary
Shared page data and installation facts
lib/built-with.ts, lib/community-page.ts, lib/privacy.ts, lib/floe-features.ts, lib/install.ts, app/(home)/built-with/page.tsx, app/(home)/community/page.tsx, app/(home)/privacy/page.tsx, components/floe-parts.tsx, components/install-tabs.tsx
Built-with, community, privacy, Floe installation, and Thaw installation data move into shared modules. Pages and components import the shared values.
Site Markdown generation
lib/site-markdown.ts
The module generates Markdown for selected site pages, product roadmaps, and Thaw releases. It also provides page lookup, path enumeration, token estimates, and not-found content.
Markdown routes and discovery
proxy.ts, app/llms.mdx/*/route.ts, app/llms-full.txt/route.ts, next.config.mjs, app/robots.ts, app/(floe)/*/page.tsx, app/(home)/*/page.tsx, app/layout.tsx, components/product-marks.tsx, e2e/smoke.spec.ts
Proxy rewrites and routes serve Markdown for site and documentation pages. Responses include Markdown content types and token estimates. Metadata, response headers, robots rules, and smoke tests cover discovery and responses.
Agent Skills resources
lib/agent-skills.ts, app/.well-known/agent-skills/*/route.ts, lib/llms.ts
Three Agent Skills are assembled from guides and documentation pages. Routes serve skill Markdown and a JSON index with SHA-256 digests. AI guidance lists the skills and Markdown access options.

Suggested reviewers: nightah

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 29c70

The site is mergeable with follow-up: security.txt continually renews its expiry, and community Markdown could misdate metrics retained from an earlier day.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 29c70

The new endpoints publish content and instructions rather than execute commands or grant access. Resource selection is bounded, and setup-changing instructions require user consent. Remaining uncertainty concerns deployed cache behavior and whether external clients enforce that consent.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The inspected server-side exposure is public content delivery. Downstream impact can extend to a user's Mac when a consuming client follows installation or thaw:// instructions, but the publishing routes do not themselves execute those commands or receive the client's operating-system authority.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Caller-supplied skill names undergo exact lookup against fixed definitions. Unknown names are rejected, dynamic parameters are disabled, and documentation comes from each definition's fixed slug list. These controls bound resource selection rather than exposing arbitrary documentation paths.
  • observed — The skill guides ask for consent before setup-changing commands and require enabling the Settings URI and approving the sending application. These are published instructions, not server-enforced authorization; external clients' compliance remains unverified.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Using shared installation data and the same Markdown renderer for skill delivery and index digests reduces command drift and supports content-consistency checks. A digest published with its content does not independently authenticate the upstream documentation or authorize execution.

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Compute the skill digests once.

skillsIndex re-renders every skill on each call, and the SKILL.md route renders it again. The index route has revalidate = false, so Next.js builds it once. The digest stays correct only because both paths use the same pure function. Add a memoized skillMarkdown promise per name so the digest and served body cannot diverge. This is a low-priority improvement.

Tie Expires to a reviewed policy date.

Next.js does not cache GET route handlers by default, and revalidate = false does not make this route static. Each request therefore moves Expires forward. An unchanged security policy can continue to appear current after a year, contrary to the build-date safeguard described above. Set the expiry from a date updated when the policy and contacts are reviewed. (nextjs.org)

Add the older reading dates to the community Markdown.

The community page prints counted.day and one sentence for each entry in counted.older (app/(home)/community/page.tsx Lines 48-49). The Markdown version prints only counted.day. Suppose a fetch fails for one number, for example Stars, and the build keeps the value from an earlier day. In that case the Markdown says every number was counted on the latest day, and that statement is false. The file header states that the two forms must not say different things.

Add focused assertions for the .md routes.

The /index.md check can pass for a Markdown 404 because it checks only content-type. Keep the status and heading assertions for the home page. Since proxy.ts handles .md addresses in a separate branch from Accept: text/markdown, add one representative non-home .md check. Do not duplicate checks for every page.

Review comment at @e2e/smoke.spec.ts at line 346:
Update the `.md` route assertions in the smoke test to verify `/index.md`
returns status 200 and a Markdown home-page heading, while retaining its
content-type check. Add one representative non-home `.md` route assertion, such
as `/faq.md`, checking status 200 and Markdown content type; do not add checks
for every page.
