What and why

Artboard Options reuses the existing preset/orientation picker and adds Fit to Artwork Bounds and Fit to Selected Art. Changes remain in the dialog draft until OK; fitting affects only the active artboard and leaves artwork in place, and Cancel leaves the document unchanged. Presets preserve each selected artboard's orientation; orientation choices apply across the selected set even when the active board already matches. Current Properties behavior is retained.

How it was tested

  • All ten cargo xtask ci gates pass on 5f9bffc19107fc3e931337b3fdbd3792849faf53: 8,577 passed, 0 failed, 13 ignored.
  • Dialog interaction regressions cover preset drafts/Cancel, selected-board orientations, choosing the active board's existing orientation for other selected boards, active-only fitting and Undo. Existing selected-artboard Properties regressions remain; native checks exercise the actual dialog.

After fitting, manually typing a size keeps active-only fit behavior and leaves artwork stationary for that dialog session. Fit uses the original target artboard while draft bounds change. New Artboard retains draft-region fitting. Selection reuses the application bounds cache; artwork is queried once per document revision and target rectangle. Cost on very large documents remains unmeasured; no timing improvement is claimed.

New actual-button regressions cover fitting after a smaller draft, invalidation after document edits, changing target boards, New Artboard fitting, Cancel and Undo/Redo without moving artwork. A published-code negative run reproduces the original-board omission; new native checks fit the original artwork after shrinking the draft, refresh the result after a document edit while the modal stays open and preserve New Artboard fitting/history.

New native checks cover this revised UI behavior. Earlier full-feature native evidence retains its original executed tree; see the evidence scope record.

Checklist

  • cargo xtask ci passes (all ten gates).
  • No new panics in shipped code; fallible operations retain their error paths.
  • Clean-room: no Adobe software/resources or GPL/AGPL code used.
  • New assets, where present, have attribution and license records.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added preset size and orientation controls to Artboard Options.
    • Added Fit to Artwork Bounds and Fit to Selected Art actions.
    • Artboard fitting adjusts dimensions without moving artwork.
    • Applying size or orientation changes now supports multiple selected artboards while preserving each artboard’s orientation.
    • New artboards can be fitted using their draft region.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Draft edits remain unapplied until confirmed and can be canceled safely.
    • Improved fitting behavior with selection changes, undo/redo, and document updates.
  • Documentation

    • Updated UI parity, roadmap, and review documentation for the expanded artboard controls.

📝 Walkthrough

Artboard Options now reuses shared preset and orientation controls. It adds fit-to-artwork and fit-to-selection actions that resize only the active artboard without moving artwork. Confirmation applies sizing choices to selected artboards. Regression tests cover draft behavior, cancellation, undo/redo, cache invalidation, and new artboards.

Layer / File(s) Summary
Shared size controls
crates/ui-egui/src/panels/properties.rs
The properties panel returns a preset or orientation choice and applies it to selected artboards. Presets preserve each artboard’s orientation, and orientation changes affect only non-square artboards that need to change.
Dialog sizing and fit
crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs/artboard_options.rs
Artboard Options tracks sizing choices, adds fit-to-artwork and fit-to-selection actions, caches artwork bounds by document revision and target rectangle, and applies fitting without moving artwork.
Regression coverage and documentation
crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs/tests.rs, docs/gaps.md, docs/roadmap.md, docs/target-app-parity.md, docs/ui-parity.md
Tests cover draft edits, confirmation, cancellation, undo/redo, selected-artboard sizing, active-artboard-only fitting, cache invalidation, and new-artboard fitting. The documents record the behavior and revision history.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 5f9bf

Artboard fitting remains a draft until confirmation, preserves artwork positions, and introduces no established merge-blocking risk.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 5f9bf

The changes retain confirmation before document mutation and use existing editing commands. Fitting is limited to one artboard and leaves artwork stationary. No new security boundary bypass was identified, but target consistency during an external document switch or artboard reorder remains unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • observed — In the inspected fitting path, bounds originate in the active document and confirmation updates one existing artboard or creates one new artboard. Fit mode explicitly excludes other selected artboards and disables artwork movement.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • inferred — The inspected change does not establish a new attacker-controlled entrypoint or privilege gain: private helpers stage draft values, confirmation uses the established dispatcher, and engine handlers retain mutation ownership and validation.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — The modal backdrop blocks ordinary application clicks, but it is not proof of command isolation: regression source deliberately edits the document through commands while the dialog stays open. Revision-keyed bounds address those edits; document switching and artboard reordering during the same dialog remain unverified.

- Line 63: Update fit_bounds to accept mutable VectorcraftApp and use
app.selection_bounds() for the selection case instead of recomputing document
bounds. Cache the artwork bounds result by document uid, revision, and
placed(d), using the dialog’s hidden __fitArt field or egui temporary data, and
reuse it until any key component changes.
- Around line 99-102: Update fit_bounds so the non-selection artwork query
passes the unchanged active artboard rectangle from the document, resolved using
the dialog’s artboard index, to art_bounds_on; do not pass placed(d) as its
membership rectangle. Keep the draft rectangle represented by placed(d) only as
the fit result, while preserving the existing selection path.
