UI.6-UI.8: dock panels into any dock group; workspaces keep their changes; collapse dock groups - #2965
UI.6-UI.8: dock panels into any dock group; workspaces keep their changes; collapse dock groups#2965gorkematlyn wants to merge 4 commits into
Conversation
…nges; collapse dock groups
UI.6: a panel group dragged onto a dock group's tab strip joins it as
tabs; onto its upper or lower half it makes a new group above or below
it (a resizable top/bottom split); onto the icon column its panels
become icons, the tabbed group's panels too. Before, a group dropped on
the dock always went back to its icon. A dock tab's context menu has
Close Panel in the legacy dock as well; the Window menu reopens it.
Agents get the same through window.panel.dock {anchor, zone, before}
and window.panel.dock {icon: true}. The shared icon column's icons
carry an accessible label.
UI.7: a workspace remembers the layout changes made in it: switching
away keeps them (UiState::workspace_changes, kept with the
preferences), switching back restores them, Reset <name> returns to
the saved layout. Saving a workspace starts it with no changes;
renaming keeps them, deleting drops them.
UI.8: a double-click on a dock group's tab (the legacy dock's tabbed
group or a group of the shared dock's tree) collapses the group to its
tabs, as floating groups already did; a group below it moves up into
the room. A second double-click, or a click on another of its tabs,
expands it. The saved layout keeps its split sizes. A panel moved out
of a collapsed group doesn't take the collapse along; saved workspaces
keep collapsed groups; a cancelled drag restores them; a group beside
another (a left/right split) doesn't collapse. Agents get the same
through window.panel.collapse {panel, collapsed?}.
Rebased onto current main: the dock keeps the restyled cards and the
floating-group fills; the new strings are translated in the languages
that became complete since (Bulgarian, Danish, Finnish, Georgian, Greek,
Indonesian, Dutch, Swedish) and the new messages in Chinese.

With `anchor` or `icon: true` the command answers from the shared
layout, {panel, floating, layout} with no `column`; the description
said {panel, floating, column} for every path. The icon and anchor
tests check the shape.

Document the left/right split exception for collapse.
docs/ui-parity.md:213 states that a group beside another in a left/right split does not collapse. Add the same eligibility exception here so this paragraph does not promise collapse for unsupported dock groups.

This is too large to review safely as one PR: about 1,280 added lines (404 of them tests) that bundle three separate roadmap items (UI.6, UI.7, UI.8) across the dock, the floating panels and the workspaces. CI is green at af6ca40 and I found no defect in the parts I read, but please split it:
- UI.7, workspaces keep their changes: crates/ui-egui/src/workspaces.rs, the workspace_changes field in state.rs, the matching recovery in apps/vectorcraft/src/main.rs (decode_saved_prefs and its test) and the window.workspace and window.workspace.reset entries in menus.rs. It does not depend on the others, so it can land first.
- UI.6, dock panels into any dock group: Drop::Root, Drop::Icons and RootZone in floating.rs, the root-group registration in dock.rs, the icon, anchor and zone handling in panel_docking.rs, the window.panel.dock parameters in menus.rs, and the drop tests.
- UI.8, collapse dock groups: window.panel.collapse, dock_groups_shown, tab_group_shortens, prune_collapsed and collapse_node in panel_docking.rs, docking_collapsed in state.rs, the double-click in dock.rs's tab_strip, and its tests. It reads docking_collapsed from moves, so it goes after UI.6.
Docs and locale strings go with the change they describe.

A workspace remembers the changes made in it: switching away keeps them (UiState::workspace_changes, kept with the preferences), switching back restores them, and Reset <name> returns to the saved layout. Saving a workspace starts it with no changes; renaming keeps them, deleting drops them, and deleting the current workspace shows Essentials as it was left. Saved preferences recover a damaged remembered layout instead of losing the whole file. Split from storytold#2965 as a reviewer asked. can't show, stay in the dock). Before, a group dropped on the dock
always went back to its icon. A dock tab's context menu has Close Panel
in the legacy dock as well; the Window menu reopens it. Agents get the
same through window.panel.dock {anchor, zone, before} and
window.panel.dock {icon: true}; `column` is refused with either, and
those paths answer with the shared layout ({panel, floating, layout}).
The shared icon column's icons carry an accessible label.

A double-click on a dock group's tab (the legacy dock's tabbed group or
a group of the shared dock's tree) collapses the group to its tabs, as
floating groups already did; a group below it moves up into the room.
A second double-click, or a click on another of its tabs, expands it.
The saved layout keeps its split sizes. A panel moved out of a
collapsed group doesn't take the collapse along; saved workspaces keep
collapsed groups; a cancelled drag restores them; a group beside
another (a left/right split) doesn't collapse. Agents get the same
through window.panel.collapse {panel, collapsed?}.
