Hi, I'm Waldir! 👋🏼 I'm a big fan of open content, open source, intrinsically-motivated work and collaboration over competition.
I am usually active at least weekly, if not daily, in the open source community, contributing features, bugfixes, documentation, translations and issue reports to multiple projects, and (as time permits) helping maintain a few of them, like mwclient (a Python client for the MediaWiki API) and tldr-pages (a community-driven repository of simplified manpages, with hundreds of contributors).
Beyond open source, I have been continuously contributing to Wikipedia (and Wikidata) for almost two decades now, as well as other open content projects like OpenStreetMap, and Q&A sites like StackOverflow.
As a native from Cape Verde, I have authored the bulk of content in Cape Verdean Creole (aka Kabuverdianu or Kriolu) in Unicode's locale repository (CLDR), as well as interface translations in translatewiki.net, which is already powering the interface localization of internationalized apps and operating systems for Cape Verdean Creole speakers.
Whenever I can, I attend local events in the open source and open content spheres, both as a participant and as a speaker, and organize local and online initiatives in the communities I am involved in, to help more people get engaged with open source projects.
Due to the need to support my family with a stable income, I currently plan to keep my day job for the foreseeable future and have no concrete plans to rely entirely on open source sponsorships for financial support — so I'd be thankful for any contributions that I receive, mostly as a confirmation that the work I do is valued and appreciated. Thanks for reading!
