About Me
Hi, I'm Roderick van Domburg, an open-source developer from the Netherlands with a passion for audio streaming and software. I've contributed to projects like pleezer, librespot, cpal, and Rodio, focusing on creating open-source implementations of streaming protocols and maintaining core audio infrastructure. My goal is to build software that lets people use their music streaming services on any device, without being locked into proprietary apps or hardware.
My Work
🎯 Current Focus: Qobuz Connect
This is where your sponsorship makes the biggest impact right now.
Since May 5, 2025, Qobuz launched their Qobuz Connect feature, and I'm working on building the first open-source implementation. Following the success of pleezer and librespot, this project aims to bring Qobuz's high-resolution audio streaming to any device.
Your sponsorship directly funds:
- Qobuz subscription for testing and development
- Network analysis tools for protocol investigation
- Development time for reverse-engineering work
- Claude AI subscription for coding assistance
cpal & Rodio (Audio Foundation)
As a maintainer of cpal and contributor to Rodio, I help maintain the core audio libraries that power Rust's audio ecosystem. Cpal provides low-level, cross-platform audio I/O, while Rodio builds on top with high-level playback features. Together, they enable projects like librespot to focus on streaming protocols rather than audio fundamentals.
librespot (Spotify Streaming)
As a core maintainer of librespot, I've delivered major improvements including migrating to Spotify's new HTTP-based API and implementing advanced audio processing features like dithering and dynamic limiting. These keep librespot reliable for high-quality Spotify streaming on Linux, embedded systems, and custom setups.
pleezer (Legacy)
pleezer was the first open-source implementation of the Deezer Connect protocol, enabling Deezer playback on countless devices. As of May 6, 2025, Deezer discontinued Connect, so pleezer is no longer functional.
Why Your Sponsorship Matters
Open-source audio streaming faces unique challenges—from reverse-engineering proprietary protocols to maintaining compatibility with ever-changing APIs. Your sponsorship enables me to access essential tools:
- Music service subscriptions for testing
- Network analysis and debugging tools
- Audio hardware for compatibility testing
- Claude AI subscription for development assistance
While I don't depend on sponsorships for my livelihood, your support provides meaningful recognition and motivation. You're directly funding tools and time that let people use their streaming services on more devices—from audiophiles who want hi-res streaming on Linux to developers building on open-source audio libraries.
Ready to support open-source audio streaming? Your sponsorship helps fund the tools and time needed to reverse-engineer streaming protocols and keep existing projects working.
