graphite with opentsdb backend apache2/2.4 fails to connect to opentsdb server/tree

I have configured graphite, opentsdb and apache2/2.4 - graphite site displays correctly. But when I click on graphite -> tree -> metrics; Nothing, no metrics. opentsdb tree table is built and has data. There are no errors in the logs. The only hint is in the access log - it appear the the request just stops. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
